FDES TECHNOLOGY

Student Headphones: We use technology throughout the school day. To make it possible for others to work quietly around the students using devices, headphones are very important. Please check in with your child. Do their headphones still work? If not, please consider sending in a new set of headphones or earbuds. Thanks for your support!

GMAS Course Page for 3-5: In order to help prepare our students and parents for the upcoming GMAS testing in April and May, a eCLASS GMAS Prep course page has been created and assigned to all of our 3-5 grade students. We hope that you will nd this collection of resources helpful to both your student and you.

Chromebooks: We would like to give a big thanks to our PTA for the 50 new Chromebooks that are now in our classrooms. Teachers and students are enjoying the additional technology in their classrooms. The addition of the new Chromebooks provides expanded opportunities for integrating technology throughout the school day. THANK YOU, PTA!

FDES MEDIA CENTER

Readers Rally

The fth grade competitive Readers Rally team competed at Peachtree Ridge High School on Saturday, February 23. The students represented Fort Daniel very well at the competition and earned third runner-up in their division. Thanks to the students and the families for their dedication and support! GSPSTV will broadcast highlights of the competition, the semi- nals, and nals of the competition in March. Readers Rally is a reading quiz bowl style competition for students in fth grade at Fort Daniel, but continues in middle and high school.. Students read books from a predetermined list and answer questions about those books. Applications to join the Readers Rally book club will be available to fth graders during the rst two weeks of the 2019-20 school year.

Reading Rewards February Challenge

Students were challenged this month to help their class log the most reading minutes in Reading Rewards. The class in each grade level with the highest total of minutes read for the whole month of February will be recognized on morning announcements and will win a trophy. We certainly are happy to see how many students are reading and logging their minutes! Please email [email protected] or

[email protected] with any questions about logging in or redeeming rewards.

Black History Month Writing Contest

Congratulations to Iyioluwa and Bella in Mrs. Gregg's class who are the winners of our Black History Month Writing Contest. These two students read their winning entries on the morning news show. Great job girls!

African American Read-In

Our rst ever African American read in was held on February 27th. Families enjoyed reading books by African American authors and biographies about inspiring people. Thanks to everyone that participated!

Spring Book Fair

The Dino-Mite Stomp, Chomp and Read Spring Book Fair is coming soon! Watch for a yer from Scholastic in the Friday folders to nd out the class shopping time for your child(ren) and to see some of the amazing books available at the Fair. We will also be open at on Monday, March 25 from 4:30-7:00 PM to coincide with the 5th Grade Spring Musical and the Art Show. With the Scholastic yer will be information about using the e-wallet feature. E-wallet is a way for children to shop at the fair cash-free. Parents sign up for an account using the link that will be sent with the yer. Parents set a spending limit, and any funds not used are not charged to the card. The e-wallet feature eliminates any worries about losing money, or students

spending more than they are supposed to. Check it out!

Read Across America Day

Fort Daniel celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday on Friday, March 1. Read Across America is sponsored by the National Education Association and is an annual reading and motivation program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading. We celebrated by dressing up in red, black, and white. Some classes had guest readers, while others made hats to wear, but everyone enjoyed reading!

Reading Fair

Thanks to all involved in the Reading Fair, from students completing projects, parents helping, teachers supporting, to the teachers that stayed for the after school sessions, to the media committee for organizing the event, and to Mrs. Gregg for the inspiration and

leadership....what a fantastic display during early release! I loved seeing the wide variety of books and the creativity that students used to showcase their book. A survey to get feedback from families will be sent out soon. If you have opinions or thoughts about the reading fair (positive or constructive criticism) please take a few minutes to complete the survey.
