Customised Training Programs (CTPs)

In 2011/12 TafeSA trained over 80,000 students across 48 campuses in over 400 qualifications ranging from Certificate levels through to Advanced Diploma. TafeSA employs approximately 2400 employees, in a range of lecturing, administrative and management positions and is committed to excellence in training and skills

development through engagement with industry, its stakeholders, local communities and international partners.

Part of industry based skills development innovation, TafeSA North Institute’s Business services division offers Customised Training Programs (CTPs) to specifically meet the varying needs and objectives of business, industry and employers.

A customised approach ensures that the training is tailored to benefit departments, agencies and employees by focusing specifically on the skills and knowledge needed in the workplace. It also means that employees can study at a time and place that is convenient.

CTPs offer a more cost-effective solution for organisations, ensuring you receive the most value for your training dollar. Training can be delivered on days and times to best suit your organisation’s schedule; consistency of training ensures that knowledge is being delivered to enhance the efficiency of day to day operations of your department and agencies.

Certification

Candidates who successfully complete CTP will receive a Statement of Attainment.

Investment:

Eight hour program all inclusive cost $1,800 per group. Sixteen hour program all inclusive cost $3,600 per group.

Face to face on campus delivery with Online (Moodle) activities at Tea Tree Gully Campus (100, Smart Road Modbury). With prior notice, it can also be delivered at nearby TAFE SA campuses or client premises.

Essential skills for Financial and non-Financial Managers

1. Budget and forecasting

Course contents

This program enhances the skills and knowledge required to prepare, document and manage budgets and forecasts, and encompasses forecasting estimates and monitoring budgeted outcomes.

Estimates, forecasts and control techniques of expenditure and revenue items including capital expenditure, client and supplier payments such as sales & commissions, community service obligation expenditure, discretionary expenditure, fees and charges, occasional expenditures, other revenues, revenue producing expenditures, sales and service fees.

After successfully completing this program candidate will be able to prepare and document budgets and forecasting estimates, monitor and evaluate budget outcomes periodically, analyse the reason for variance between actual result and budget performance, understand the budget implementation responsibility and apply accounting principles and practices with organisational policies and procedures .

Duration:

2. Business & Employee’s legal obligations for negligence and other wrongful actions

Course contents

This program has broad application and can be used wherever candidates have a need to make day to day customer based decisions in a context of the consumer based legal system.

After successfully completing this program candidates will be able to understand the basic nature of business and employee’s obligation of tort law (negligence other wrongful actions) and Consumer Law 2010 obligations in the work place while serving customers

3. Implement and maintain internal control systems

Course contents

This program enhances skills and knowledge required to maintain, review and monitor internal control of transactions and improve the manager’s performance on systematic measures (such as reviews, checks and balances, methods and procedures) instituted by an organisation to:

 Conduct its business in an orderly and efficient manner,  Safeguard its assets and resources,

 Deter and detect errors, fraud, and theft,

 Ensure accuracy and completeness of its accounting data,

 Produce reliable and timely financial and management information, and  Ensure adherence to organisational policies and plans.

After successfully completing this program candidates will be able to interpret and comply with organisational policies and procedures, financial delegations and accountabilities, review operational activities and implement effective operating procedures and monitor policy and relevant financial compliance requirements

4. Financial calculations Course contents

Appropriate techniques include: percentages, fractions, decimals, interest calculations, depreciation and straight-line graphs. After successfully completing this program candidates will be able to understand and apply mathematical techniques and methods of calculation, effectively use relevant data entry, office

equipment and software, check for accuracy of computational results and record calculation worksheets used for future reference and use.

5. Job costing Course contents

This program enhances the skills and knowledge required to produce job costing information. The unit encompasses gathering and recording operating and cost data and producing cost reports. The following job costing techniques will be delivered to candidates:

 Costs assignments techniques include: direct and indirect costs, labour, materials and overheads, service costs

 Budgets techniques include: materials usage, labour usage, overhead, costing budgets  Reports preparation include: variance analysis reports, job and service profitability reports,

performance reports with different formats such as job cost records & service cost analysis

This unit has application to job functions that have budget responsibility and may include financial managers and departmental managers. 7. Pricing strategies for product and services Course contents

This program enhances the skills and knowledge required to take appropriate pricing decisions in day to day business operation. This includes:

 Discuss the three major influences on pricing decisions  Price outputs using target pricing

 Price output for segmented market  Price outputs using cost- plus pricing

 Distinguish between long term and short term pricing decisions  Explain the impact of Australian Law on pricing

 Explain differences in a company’s revenues across customers purchasing the same product  Apply activity based costing hierarchy to customer costing

 Explain differences in customer level cost across customers

8. Cost benefit analysis Course contents

This program enhances the skills and knowledge required to understand the cost and benefits analysis techniques to take effective decisions in day to day business operations. This includes:

 Explain the features of cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis

 Determine the break-even point and output level needed to achieve the target profit  Explain how taxes affect the CVP analysis

 Explain CVP analysis in decision making and how sensitivity analysis helps managers to cope with uncertainty

 Use CVP analysis to plan variable and fixed cost  Apply CVP analysis to plan variable and fixed cost

 Apply CVP analysis to a company selling multiple products and services

 Adapt CVP analysis to situations in which a product has more than one cost driver

After successfully completing this program candidates will be able to apply knowledge and skills to make appropriate business decisions based on cost and benefit analysis in their day to day business operations.

9. Develop and use complex spreadsheets Course contents

This program enhances the skills and knowledge required to use spreadsheet software to complete business tasks and to produce complex documents. This includes

Spreadsheet design : analysis, appropriateness, avoidance of blank rows and columns, embedding cell references in formulae, formulae, formatting and reformatting, functions, headers and footers headings, headings and labels , identification and parameters, import and export of data, labels, linked formulae, multi-page documents, pivot tables, relative and absolute cell references and split screen operation  Functions : basic financial functions, date functions, logical functions, mathematical functions, simple

nested functions, statistical functions

Formulae: addition, average, comparison, division, exponentiation, multiplication, percentage, subtraction and combinations of above

Macros : printing sections of a spreadsheet

Importing and exporting : proofreading, reformatting and split screen (if available)

Graphs: bar, line, pie, scatter, stack and 3D and Creating graphs include data range, keys and legends, labels and titles, naming, sizing, using graph menu and X and Y axis

This unit applies to individuals employed in a range of work environments that require skills in the creation of complex spreadsheets to store and retrieve data. They may work as individuals providing administrative support within an enterprise, or may be independently responsible for designing and working with spreadsheets relevant to their own work roles.

After successfully completing this program, candidates will be apply knowledge and skills to developing

complex spreadsheets, developing graphical representations of data contained in spreadsheets using advanced complex spreadsheet functions and formulas.

10. Managing suppliers Course contents

This program enhances the skills and knowledge required to make appropriate decisions on selection of cost effective suppliers in day to day business decision making. This includes

 Recognise the value of creating close relationships with suppliers  Explain and apply the criteria used to select suppliers

 Used activity based approach to determine the total cost dealing with and managing suppliers  Select measures to evaluate supplier performance

After successfully completing this program, candidates will be able to apply knowledge and skill to select appropriate suppliers while maintaining an appropriate business relationship with them.

This unit applies to individuals who are skilled operators and apply a broad range of competencies in various work contexts. They may exercise discretion and judgement using appropriate theoretical knowledge of customer service to provide technical advice and support to customers over either a short or long term interaction.

After successfully completing this program candidate will be able to identifying needs and priorities of customers, distinguishing between different levels of customer satisfaction ,treating customers with courtesy and respect, responding to and reporting on, customer feedback and knowledge of organisational policy and procedures for customer service.

7. Workplace occupational health and safety

Course contents

This program enhance the skills and knowledge required to participate in workplace occupational health and safety (OHS) processes to protect workers own health and safety, and that of others. Throughout this program, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the duty of care requirements within the workplace. Skills and processes for motivating workgroups to adopt responsibility in creating a safer workplace are a key focus.

This program applies to individuals who require a fundamental knowledge of OHS to carry out their own work which may be in a defined context under direct supervision or with some individual responsibility. This unit has broad applicability across industries and workplace contexts.

After successfully completing this program candidate will be able accurately following all relevant safety procedures , identifying and reporting hazards to designated personnel, knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation and knowledge of relevant materials, equipment and work processes.

accurately convey required basic information, using formatting suitable for intended audience and knowledge of organisational policies and procedures for document production.
