We are pleased that you have expressed interest in Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. This material provides information about applying for admission as a classified graduate student. Review it thoroughly before completing the application. Please Note: The quickest and easiest way to apply and pay the application fee is online at www.siue.edu/prospectivestudents.

International Applicants: If you hold or require a non-immigrant visa, do not complete this application. Request international application material from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Office of Admissions, Box 1047, Edwardsville, IL 62026-1047, fax (618) 650-3618, phone (618) 650-3770, or e-mail [email protected].

SIUE has a dual admission process for classified status. Applicants must satisfy the admission requirements and be approved for admission to graduate study by both the Graduate School and the academic program to which application is made. Earning a baccalaureate degree from SIUE does not guarantee admission into graduate study. Contact the program director of your intended program for specific program admission requirements, such as test scores, personal interviews, personal history forms, letters of recommendation, or applications.

File Completion Deadline: Application files must be completed at least four weeks preceding the first day of the term:

Spring 2007 – December 8, 2006; Summer 2007 – April 20, 2007; Fall 2007 – July 20, 2007; and Spring 2008 – December 14, 2007.

However, several departments have earlier deadlines than the general dates above; refer to the Graduate Degree Program list to identify these departments, or check with the Graduate Program director.

The Graduate Catalog and Schedule of Classes are available on the SIUE Web site (www.siue.edu/GRADUATE).

There is a $30.00 application fee for all new graduate applicants and for returning applicants who have not attended SIUE for nine consecutive terms. Payment should be made in U.S. dollars by check or money order payable to SIUE. Payment also may be made online by credit card at www.siue.edu/BURSAR. Applications received without the fee will not be processed. This fee is NON- REFUNDABLE. Applicants who decide to change their term of entry after admission may update their file for the next two terms without another application fee. Graduate students currently enrolled at SIUE are not assessed an additional fee to apply to another program or to change their major.

Applicants must have official transcripts mailed directly to Office of Admissions by the institution granting the baccalaureate degree or where the degree is in progress, and from all institutions at which post-baccalaureate work has been completed. This is not necessary for applicants who graduated from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville or Carbondale. Hand carried and faxed documents are not acceptable. Please direct all transcripts to: Office of Admissions, Box 1047, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Edwardsville, IL 62026-1047.

To ensure that all documents necessary to complete your admission file have been received, go to www.siue.edu/COUGARNET.

Assistantships: Three types of graduate assistantships are available to degree-seeking students: general, research, and teaching.

Stipends vary according to the percentage of appointment and the length of service. Assistants are eligible for tuition remission.

Academic departments and other units on campus award assistantships. Openings are posted in the individual departments, in the Graduate Studies and Research Office, and on the Graduate School website (www.siue.edu/GRADUATE).

Awards: First-time graduate degree-seeking students may apply for a Competitive Graduate Award, which provides a stipend and a waiver of tuition. Application forms are available in Graduate Studies and Research, Campus Box 1046, SIUE, Edwardsville, IL 62026-1046, or call (618) 650-3010.

Student Employment, Loans, and Grants: Graduate students may be eligible for student employment and for loans or grants to support their studies. For information, contact the Student Financial Aid Office at (618) 650-3880, or at www.finaid.siue.edu, or direct requests to Campus Box 1060, SIUE, Edwardsville, IL 62026-1060.

The chart below lists the majors offered with corresponding degrees and required standardized tests. Since more than one degree may be available for the same major, you must indicate your degree selection and the specialization or teaching field, if applicable. If more than one standardized test is listed for your major, the department will generally accept the results of either test. Not all programs require a standardized test. Information about standardized tests is available at Testing Services, Peck Hall, Room 1404, or on the SIUE website at www.siue.edu/IS/TEST.

GRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMS

The charts below list the concentrations offered for the Post-Baccalaureate and Post-Master’s Certificate Programs.

A certificate is an organized program of study that leads to a specific set of skills or knowledge. A certificate confirms that a student has mastery of the content of a clearly defined sub-field of an academic major field of study. A certificate provides in-depth training, but not to the breadth of a graduate degree.

Additional Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Programs and Post-Master’s Certificate Programs are being developed. Please check our Web site at www.siue.edu/GRADUATE for the most up-to-date listing of certificate programs. If you have confirma- tion that a certificate program is offered but it is not listed on the application, please indicate the program appropriately under item #14 on the application.

** These programs have a deadline that differs from the general University deadline. Contact the academic department for details.
