Do you have any comments regarding the course content?

Perfect, nice course, perfect number of assignments, and the course content is what I expected

I really liked that our teacher told something about Norwegian current culture and gave some short introduction into every day life.

I like her background from language science, too. I consider it very appropiate that she does not just have a very good and fluent English about also that she studied some other languages but English to make some more comparisions.

I think it is very well organized and it makes it entertaining to follow the content

-

maybe learn the weather

(9)

Lærer was an amazingly sweet teacher :) well structured and nice, it was very good.

The course is well structured and quite clear.

Our professor improvised and gave us additional exercises which was extremely helpful other than the 5 chapters in the syllabus.

I'd like to learn sth about subclauses!

It would be intresting to have some informations about the Norwegian culture and about the country in the texts about Ken,Anna,... (if possible).

I thought we would learn more. One or two more lessons would have been nice.

It was good cours content, maybe a bit to much grammar about pronouns.

I think I learned a lot actually regarding writing and reading at least. I think the only thing that should be included for real is the expressions of for example "my friend" and "your friend". Because it is used a lot in common language usage.

(10)

It was nice! Now i am able to understand how norwegian works and i can build setences and understand some things.

It seems to me very unlikely that two german guys (Peter and Frank) would speak Norwegian with eachother.

I think the course content could be expanded a little. The manner of teaching was good but the course goals were set slightly low

No, I feel like I know the solid basics of Norwegian now and it helps me in my everyday life here.

The course content is useful for beginners.

Really cool to try to speak norsk

It is finally pretty hard to stay focus all a semester in distance.

(11)

Sometimes we got introduced to new topics (grammar) and got tested by the teacher 5 minutes afterwards by

answering questions in front of the class. This was sometimes a little bit fast for me.

The content was adequate to the beginners level. We learnt useful things that were useful for the stuff that we did on an Exchange semester.

It was a bit unfortunate that we often didn't manage to fit all the material in the lecture, that way some slides were skipped and we had to work them out by ourselves. This was mostly the case when we asked a lot questions during the lecture.

The course content is adapted to a beginner course.

It was very good and helpful to have the course book NoW.

The readings and exercises helped to learn the language.

The structure was good for studying. The exercises on the Web were also perfect to prepare for the exam.

(12)

Content was well chosen!

No

I wish there was less grammar and a more practical approach on how to use norwegian language in everyday life. Most people I talked to that for this purpose it was nerly useless. Maybe improvised dialogues between to people with a specific real life task from the beginning of the course. The focus was too much on grammar and little on vocabulary.

I think the content is quite a lot! But it is fair as it's 7,5 ECTS as well. The teachers could stress more that ou also have to work on your own.

the content was ok

(13)

Learnings materials are very adapted to us, international students. Resources are easily accessible, however they are spread out everywhere (Now1 website, Blackboard, book + workbook). Thus, it is very confusing at the beginning. I recommend putting the oral and written exercises from Now1 website on blackboard.

the lectures are not always productive. there should be more time spent for explainantions.

would be better if the professor read and explains the dialogs

Since most of class I attended were digital, it was really hard to keep track of it. the last few classes which were physical were entirely different experience. I wish the entire course was physical, that way i could have engaged myself more to the class.

Moreover, majority of our class were erusmus or exchange student from Germany/ Netherlands/France/ Italy, people from germany and Netherlands had some sort of head start in the course, whereas me coming from an asian country, it was difficult to keep pace with them.

(14)

There is a whole lot of information provided every week, that the professor expects the students to know by heart for the next lesson; and having four or five other courses at least, it's hard to find time to work every day on the

Norwegian course, which you would expect to be easy as it's a beginner class. And as soon as you cannot (because of lack of time for example) put it the required work during one week, you're behind and you don't understand the next lesson, and so on. It's a vicious circle.

So maybe try to reduce the amount of information the professors are giving every lesson (it's also complicated because then we don't get enough breaks or breaks which are long enough, and we cannot focus anymore after a while). Please.

(15)

Please, enter any other comments or recommendations on how we may improve the course

Nice idea to recap and ask students at the beginning of each course

Lærer Lærer did an exceptionally good job as a teacher. Had a great time in her course.

I know this is not wanted by the NTNU but I will tell it anyway so that you get my personal opinion: I'd suggest a course in German. Who is willing to take such is can sign up.

In this case the teacher may referre to German grammar and not the English one. This would accelerate learning

Norwegian from German mothertongue a lot. It would have helped me a lot to make much more use of the course.

Generally, and I know it will sound weird, the pace was much too low for my concerns. Norwegian is but fare no difficult language on the European continent and greater use could have been made here if we were supposed to learn more vocabulary and write longer essays. Maybe there will be no use for anyone, because the Norwegian population and economy is not so big compared to central Europe but greater success in learning more Norwegian was definitly possible. Time and teaching staff is available. I consider that a real pity.

No recommendations for digital. And either for physical, because I can't evaluate it...

make it monter, start in january

Maybe a little bit more understanding exercises. Reading was quite easy but listening to the language was still a bit difficult afterwards.

(16)

It's maybe not possible but it would be interesting to include some norwegian students in the courses to help us while speaking norwegian in small groups. Because we can't really help each other with the mistakes and the prononciation.

More dialogues between the participants

Introduce more working material regarding word fields

I liked the working materials. It was very very cool how the boom was telling a story about students arriving in

Trondheim Moholt studentby. I m living there as well, which is why I could relate with the pictures and common things they were talking about. I liked that.

The only thing that might has to improve in that course is the amount of speaking. Maybe one could replace one essay for a dialog every group has to present in the next lesson. So that the speech is also practiced during off time.

(17)

I would add a chapter to learn what to say in the

supermarket (do you want a bag, can i get a receipt...) since it is really useful in the everyday life.

More kahoot!

Very good teaching.

Expand the curriculum

Practicing talking a bit more might be helpful. If I wouldn’t have talked with Norwegian friends I would have gotten almost 0 practice with people that can correct me. But I understand this is very difficult to do digitally

It would be great if you go a bit slower with more grammar exercices.

(18)

The breakout rooms with just 2 people (pairs) worked better for me. In the bigger groups there was always a waiting because we had to switch the readers etc.

I prefered breakout rooms and working in pairs.

plan some time for questions or discussions when planning the lectures and their content

More focus on listening comprehension (comparable to the audiofiles on NoW-online).

I am more confident in reading and understanding/listening.

But I am not confident in speaking or understanding Norwegians. Maybe it would be good to involve more tasks where we have to speak or listenings from Native speakers where we have to guess the topic.

(19)

Digital: Use the screen to share things, not writing on a paper and then showing it into the camera.

More breakout sessions would be better to have more practice / talking

Regular exercises after every lecture will be appreciated.

I think an exam with physical attendace would have been much better

3 hours all at once is not the best way to learn a language in my opinion, it is better less hour per time but more time per week.

(20)

Two times a week 1,5h to keep more on track

i know of few other asian students who got into the short course. In my opinion, if all these people were considered in same batch, it might have been easier for us.

(21)

Same same.

(22)

What is your opinion of the digital teaching? Do you have any comments on the digital exam?

Of course I prefer when lectures are in present, but it didn't disturb me. The fact that we can hear texts on the website is good

Good mixture of group sessions and „all together“ teaching

No technical problems; system is easy to understand

I very much prefer physical teaching. That being said, I think the digital format was handled very well.

I think the exam was quite well designed, regarding content, difficulty and length.

The digital learning was really good by taking the circumstances into account.

Nei. Det var veldig fint. Det var ikke for enkelt og jeg hadde problemer å bli ferdig. Jeg synnes det er viktig til en bra eksmanen til lærerne at noe studenter har problemer å gjøre den hel eksamen om tid.

It would be pointless if it was too easy. I really like your language. It is sad that I couldn't learn more of it but I guess I would always have said that at this point. :D

I would say this course had the digital teaching better organized than all the others that I had

I found some tasks very a hard to do but I think I'm satisfied in general

Well... I guess teaching digitally can just be done as well as the circumstances allow it.

Physical is superior but the resources available were well used during online class and it was nonetheless a good experience.

It worked very well as expected

It ia good, but I am looking forward to the on site lectures.

It's not the best but sometimes it can be usefull!

good good a bit long

Teacher of course 5 did it very very well!! Understanding was a little bit difficult but all the other exercises were fair.

Maybe include a possibility to mark already used words (for example woukd be helpful for the exercise with the verbs)

(23)

It was performed in a good way, but it will surely be even better to learn physically in a classroom.

I was greatly executed Well, with google translator its kinda easy. I tried doing it without, but still, I guess this year will not be very

representative :D Although I would have prefered face to face

lectures, it was a good idea to create small groups of 2-3 students in which we could speak together.

I was surprised by the difficulty of the dictation because I expected something like what we had to train in blackboard, that is to say words and not full

sentences.

Apart from that it was OK.

It is a bit difficult to do a language course digitally but it was okay. In person classes were extremely helpful and fun too.

Worked well, especially with the break out sessions

I was really good. It’s not easy to follow digital course, especially when it’s a language course.

But the teacher a réussi a rendre le cours pertinent et interessant.

It was good

It's hard to do better with the digital teaching. No it was ok.

ok, but strongly prefer courses with attendance this was ok!

Its okay but communication doesn't work always so well in the online course.

It was a good set up for an exam :)

It's okay, but in person teaching is much better for socializing and oral practice.

Inspera worked very well. It's probably easier than in other years, because exam aids were permitted. People who work together have an advantage compared to people who work alone.

Cheating can almost not be identified.

I would have prefered at least some lectures in person. Also the teaching with microsoft teams was sometimes a bit confusing.

It was good. Not very good, but good. The problem here was that the group size was too big. Even in speaking exercises not everyone had the chance to improve his or her pronounciation and speech jn general.

A group size of 3-4 should be maximum.

But overall it was okay. The teacher knew the tool we were working in and was able to present the courses content in detail.

Everything's fine with on exception. You cannot put a box 15 words or sth on top of a text with gaps. This might work for exams jn presence, because you can tik out the words. The real challenge of the text was not finding the correct

expressions, forming verbs or understanding the text but rather finding out which words I already used and which are still free. That should not be the purpose of this exercise

(24)

I think it was the best way possible, but learning a new language online is quite hard.

Online it was difficult to stay focus, and talking into breakout rooms is less easy than in real life.

The digital exam was perfect, the time was adequate for the tasks (not too many, not too few).

Regarding the circumstances, the digital teaching was very good, the course instructor made good use of the different digital tools available. But if possible in the future I think inperson teaching is more efficient and social.

The dictation was very different from the one in Milestone 3. There was no way to prepare for it. Overall this years exam seemed to me more difficult than the practice exams. Also a lot of word were used which we not part of the NOW 1-5 Vocabulary.

Worked well all in all Good

Physical teaching is better for learning a language.

It was a good solution. It isn’t ideal to learn a language online but the course was interactive and fun, I liked the kahoots.

It was a lot for two hours. I was lucky that I had practiced for the essay and had pre-written similar things to what was asked for, otherwise I wouldn’t have managed to answer everything. I think even three hours would have been challenging enough and still not enough time to just google everything (I assume that’s why we only had so little time).

With good preparation and fast answers I still had no time to double check my answers. The whole thing was more stressful than an average exam.

Digital teaching was quite hard to follow It would have been better in physical lectures

It was too long to do all the tasks in 2 hours.

It's too bad that the teaching is digital because I think it would be so much easier to learn norwegian in physical. It's easier for the

pronunciation, we can well see the teacher and the teacher can see us. He can notice if we pronounce wrong or not. Moreover, it would be better to talk directly with the other students. It's easier to learn norwegian and other people. Besides, it's more simple to ask questions in physical.

The digital exam goes well. I hadn't any problem of connection or whatever. But I think it was a bit too long.

Physical classes would be better but it was ok.

Really hard to stay focus a whole semester This one was really long! Ihad to be super fast on the essay to try to finish it.

(25)

I think it is a good thing if we take the opportunities of it. I really like the NoW website with all the digital exercises.

The actual exam seemed a bit harder compared to the old ones I used to prepare myself. I had no technical issues. The software worked great. The task were we had to insert verbs and the other task where we had to insert adjectives or nouns was tricky, since we could not mark the words we already used (technically impossible on a website). For this task you could have chosen a different inspera exercise type where you can use drag and drop.

It was really okay, easy to connect. All the materials were gathered in one place and easily accessible. The teacher had a nice methodic approach.

It was nicely composed.

the online solution was good. I appreciate that it was interactive (Kahoot, exercises, etc)

For this course, I think the teaching in face to face would be better and we could better interact with each other.

Worked well for me, but physical courses are better because this allows more interaction between the students.

maybe provide the teacher with software so that he/she can write like on a whiteboard (with digital pen instead of keyboard)

Works good, easy to work with.

It was not perfect but okay. It was hard to focus and concentrate for a long time.

Especially while learning a new language, because there is so much new content in a short time and it is hard to follow the contents.

The exam was very good produced. It was perfect that we had time to go through the exercises again and that we could change something after one exercise (We didn't have to complete one exercises to get to the next one - that was good and more stressless!) I just didn't like the dictation. The voice was sometimes hard to understand because the voice quality was very bad.

I was used to the dictations from Norwegian on the Web, where the sound quality was very good.

To many people for online teaching. I had a bit to less time.

(26)

It is for sure better to learn a language in presence.

Was perfectly organized. Maybe some information about the grading, when to expect to receive it.

A good and convenient way of teaching during the pandemic

A good and convenient exam during the pandemic

Especially for language lectures digital course is difficult to understand as for a language pronunciation is really important and due to the online class, it is difficult for lecturers to pay attention to individuals. But, Prof. Lærer has managed to do so.

No.

If I had known the course was to be digital only, I might not have taken it. I guess a main reason for me was to get to know other students and that did not happen. The group sessions where a good idea though. But the best was actually when we were two or three people just talking freely. That should have been more

For normal lectures digital teaching is ok, but for learning a language it is not suitable I think.

Learning a language and the pronounciation just doesn't work really good when you do it alone at home. It is much more effictive and motivative if you learn it with a teacher speacking Norwegiscn right in front of you.

I could not learn well with the online classes

It was really fair! But digital exam is absolutely not the rght thingh to learn a language and test it! You can look up everything. Thus you don't have to learn the vocabulary.

digital teaching is not the way you learn a language... many things can be done digitally but not learning a language

(27)

Not adapted to learning of new languages Tooo long, therefore the time allocated to the essay was reduced.

the teacher and the students both were trying their level best. However, its hard for anyone to look at screen and continue with digital class, that too of a foreign language. A digital class of 3 hours long, for a language course seemed a bit tiring to me, I think it would have been better with 2 classes a week of half the time duration because physically 3 hrs was not an issue at all.

The digital exam was really long. It was hard to be finished in just 2 hours. it required atleast two and a half hours

(28)

It's obviously not as efficient as in-person teaching because the information is not conveyed the same way through a screen, but hey, we all know that by now.

So obviously in-person teaching is to be prefered if there's a choice.

We couldn't do all of it in 2 hours on our own (6 exercices, including a 200-word- essay and a dictation!). The dictation on its own took us some 20 minutes, and the essay was also really long. Also, there were words we had never seen or heard of in the dictation.

Anyway, just because it is digital doesn't mean we can do it all faster, so reduce the amount of exercices because this is turning it into a race to do the most of the exam. And we all tend to neglect the grammar exercices or the dictation as the essay is worth more points.

Also, it encourages cheating and doing it with other people to have time to finish it (I suppose it's exaxtly the contrary of what you wanted to do).
