1 BEFORE INSTALLATION

Before installing the displays on location, it is recommended to test one display and check if it is establishing network connection with the Papercast server (i.e. if modem, mobile provider, SIM and APN settings are working correctly).

Power up the display in the offi ce with enclosed mains cable. If the display blinks twice in full white and then shows the Papercast icon (or customer logo, if requested and provided), everything is in order.

To check the network connection, connect the Mobile antenna. After 2-5 minutes the

maintenance screen or content from the active layout should appear. If you’re adding a display to an already established system (with data feed, assigned layout and operation profi le, etc.), it should show the bus station relevant content.

Papercast Content Management System (CMS) off ers 3 ways to check if the display has established connection with the server, please see chapter Check connection status below.

Content can be loaded to display before shipping, depending on the individual customer agreement.

2.3 Access the CMS backend application

For CMS credentials please contact your distribution service or support at [email protected]:

URL:https://customerdomain.papercast.net Username:customerusername

Password:customerpassword

Shipped displays are already added to the customer CMS portal.

2.3.1 Check connection status

When the display is powered up and has established an Internet connection, it takes 3 to 5 minutes for an image to show.

CMS off ers three ways to check the display’s connection status:

• Via Monitor module

• Via Displays module

• Via Administration > Display controllers module

2.3.1.1 Monitor

Open the Monitor module and scroll down to Display previews. All displays with active data connection are colored green:

2.3.1.2 Displays

Displays module shows all displays in the system. Check the “Online status” column to see whether display is

“online” or “offl ine”:

(8)

2.3.1.3 Display controllers

Display controllers module shows all display controllers in the system. Check the “Online” column to see whether display is

“online” (green) or “offl ine” (red):

3 SET/CHANGE NETWORK CONNECTION TYPE

IMPORTANT!

Each connection type requires hardware support. Customers have to specify during the ordering process which connection types they intend to use. Without hardware support below changes won’t have any eff ect.

Displays support three network connection types:

• Mobile (default)

• WiFi

• Ethernet

There are two ways to change the network connection type:

• Via CMS (online confi guration)

• Via terminal emulator (offl ine confi guration)

3.1 Via CMS

IMPORTANT!

To change the network connection type via the CMS, the display has to be “online”.

Expand the Administration module and open the Display controllers module. Select the display for which you wish to change the connection type, click on the More tools icon and select Unit terminal.

4 INSTALLATION

4.1 Solar powered displays

For mounting instructions see appendix.

4.1.1 Fuse

In order for the device/display to receive power from the solar panel, you must insert attached fuse into the fuse socket.

Open the battery box by unscrewing the three M4x16 bolts:

Pull out the cable with the fuse socket . The fuse is attached to the fuse socket cap with simple duct tape.

Remove the duct tape and insert the fuse into the fuse socket . Close the fuse socket cap and put it back in the box.

Close the battery box.

1

2

(23)

IMPORTANT!

If display is not in use and solar box is not installed on site (e.g. is stored in a warehouse or an offi ce), please remove the fuse from the fuse socket.

We do not recommend powering the display with the solar panel when indoors, as it won’t receive enough sunlight.

4.1.2 Solar panel position and orientation

Solar panel must be facing the equator for optimal sun exposure. Solar panel must be positioned in a well-lit spot and out of shade of surrounding objects.

4.1.3 Solar panel maintenance

Leaves, excessive pollen or bird droppings can disrupt the panel’s energy transmission. If exposure to these elements cannot be avoided, more frequent check-ups will be needed.

If you notice a sudden drop in performance (the battery charges slowly or does not charge at all), check the solar panel surface for impurities. E.g. if a single solar cell is covered with a leaf, or if dust/pollen is covering the surface, the solar panel may stop charging the battery. To avoid this, it is recommended the panel surface is cleaned regularly.

4.1.4 Pole mount – limitations

For mounting any round pole can be used as long as the pole diameter is 70 mm or more. If the pole diameter is less than 70 mm, please contact manufacturer.

4.1.5 Connectivity

Connect the antennas (enclosed) with the display and fi x the antenna on the side of solar panel (top for best exposure, below for best protection) or pole, preferably as high as possible to get the best signal.

Figure 4-1: mobile (left) and WiFi (right) antenna connector If connecting via Ethernet, plug in the Ethernet cable (NOT enclosed).

(24)

5 TROUBLESHOOTING

5.1 Opening the display unit

1. Put the display face down on a fl at non-abrasive surface.

(25)

5.2 Insert SIM Card

IMPORTANT!

When changing SIM card, the display has to be disconnected from the power source!

SIM Card is required for mobile online connectivity mode. Other modes (offl ine, Ethernet online) do not require a SIM card.

Displays can be shipped with SIM card inserted and set to establish connection via GSM mobile network by default, or the customers can opt to insert SIM cards themselves.

(26)

5.3 Change SD card

All Papercast displays require an SD memory card in order to function. Displays are shipped with an SD card with appropriate software and settings already inserted.

SD cards should only be changed with new SD cards provided by Papercast.

5.4 Power

5.4.1 Mains

If you connect the display to mains power and it does not blink twice in full white and shows the icon/logo, the display is not receiving power.

• Power cable not plugged in correctly

• Faulty charger (please contact your local distributer or manufacturer for replacement)

5.4.2 Solar

• Fuse not inserted

• If fuse is inserted, check if blown

• If blown, replace

• If not blown, check voltage on the power cable connector connected to display: set voltmeter to DC, check PIN 1 (ground, black cable) and 3 (+12 V, red cable), voltage should be ~12 V

• If not ~12 V, check wiring

• If no reason found, contact support at [email protected]

5.5 Connection

Figure 5-1: 5-PIN power connector

(27)

5.5.1 Mobile

• SIM card has locked PIN

• SIM card has no data plan

• Antenna is not connected properly

• APN settings are not correct > reset via unit terminal in CMS or terminal emulator, or contact support at [email protected]

• Very poor signal

– check antenna environment, antenna should not be enclosed in any housing or box

– micro location has poor signal > check signal strength with mobile operator or contact support at [email protected]

• Ports 80 and 443 are behind a firewall > check your firewall settings and open the 80 and 443 ports

5.5.2 WiFi

• UN and PW are not set correctly > reset via unit terminal in CMS or terminal emulator, or contact support at [email protected]

• Antenna is not positioned, attached, inserted correctly

• Very poor signal

– check antenna environment, antenna should not be enclosed in any housing or box

– micro location has poor signal > check signal strength with WiFi operator or contact support at [email protected]

5.5.3 Ethernet

• Check whether Ethernet cable is connected correctly

• Check your firewall settings

• If your IP is set to static, send IP, gateway and netmask to [email protected]
