A Musical Pilgrimage to Greece & Turkey:

In the Footsteps of St. Paul & the Early Church!

Including a 3-Night Cruise 10 Days / 8 Nights

Join Jubilate Ambassador/Host, Meredith Augustin and Fr. James Marchionda, Spiritual Director, on the musical adventure of a lifetime. We will sing our way through the footsteps of St. Paul’s missionary journeys and explore the growth of the Early Church. Sacred Scripture will jump off the page in 3D technicolor while we pray and sing as a Jubilate pilgrimage community.

Day 1: Sunday, May 15, 2022 - Departure from the USA

Today we embark on our journey to the lands of ancient treasures and Christian history with an overnight flight to Greece. We call to mind those for whom we will pray on this pilgrimage. Meals and beverages are served in flight.

Day 2: Monday, May 16 - Arrival in Thessaloniki (D)

Today we arrive in Thessaloniki. We meet our Jubilate tour manager and check into our hotel.

You will have the remainder of the day at leisure to relax or take a stroll along the streets of Thessaloniki to enjoy the flavor of the city. Dinner and overnight in Thessaloniki.

Day 3: Tuesday, May 17 - Thessaloniki / Philippi / Kavala / Thessaloniki (B,D) We begin the day by following the massive battlement Byzantine wall to the citadel for a panoramic view of the city. Next, we visit Philippi and Kavala. Kavala is Greece’s picturesque

mainland port with a most elegant harbor and the site where St. Paul landed with his disciples Timothy and Silas. Luke, the Evangelist, also came here from Troas. This ancient city of Neapolis was later

renamed Christoupolis because it was the first European city to accept Christianity! We then tour

the Roman Aqueduct and the ruins of the Acropolis in this beautifully located city, known since the 5th century as Kavala. We continue to Philippi where Paul preached his first evangelical sermon and baptized the first Christians on European soil. We then view the baptismal site where Lydia surrendered her life to Christ and visit a crypt dating from the Roman period that is thought to have served as a prison for Paul. Finally, we visit the famous Acropolis, Basilica, and the Theatre. We return to Thessaloniki and visit St. Demetrius Basilica, dedicated to a distinguished member of the Roman army and a martyred Christian convert, before returning to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Wednesday, May 18 - Thessaloniki / Kalambaka (B,D)

This morning we begin by visiting the Thessaloniki Catholic Cathedral before we depart from

Thessaloniki. We then drive through the town and see remnants of the original Roman road

(3)

that spanned the nation during Paul’s time. En route we will view the old city ramparts; the newly excavated Forum, St. George Church, an ancient Roman monument which was

transformed into a church and the Galerius Arch, which rises over the famous Via Egnatia. We then continue to Berea to view the ancient synagogue where Paul spoke and the view the

mosaics of Paul and the plaque of scripture regarding the “more noble” church. Dinner and overnight Kalambaka.

Day 5: Thursday, May 19 - Kalambaka / Meteora / Athens (B,D)

Following breakfast, we begin our tour of the Meteora Monasteries. Here we see the world- famous Byzantine monasteries that are perched precariously on summits of gray rock pinnacles of varied and beautiful shapes. Their history goes back to the 14th century when the monks sought refuge in the cliffside caves then fled higher to build the original wooden shelters, later transformed into monasteries. From here, our tour travels southward past Thermopylae where we learn of the famous Spartan battle of 300. Dinner and overnight in Athens.

Day 6: Friday, May 20 - Athens / Cruise-Mykonos (B,D)

This morning we drive to Pireaus where we embark on our cruise ship. Our first port is at Mykonos, called the island of windmills. We experience the waterfront lined with shops and cafes and then stroll the charming walkways through a maze of whitewashed buildings before returning to the ship for dinner and evening entertainment.

Day 7: Saturday, May 21 - Cruise-Ephesus / Patmos (B,L,D) Docking in Turkey, we enjoy a tour of Ephesus, the city of the Bible and one of the largest restorations still in progress with miles of ancient treasures. Ephesus was once a thriving port town of 250,000 people. We see the spectacular excavations of the major streets in this ancient city including the Agora, the Odeon, the Library, the marble- paved main Street, the Baths, Trajan’s Fountain, the Residences of the Patricians, the Prytaneum, and Temple of Hadrian. We visit The Great Theatre, built in the 4th century B.C. and could accommodate 24,000 spectators and it is famous even nowadays for its acoustics. We then visit the House of the Virgin Mary in Ephesus. This afternoon we visit the Isle of Patmos, under statutory protection as a historic

monument. Here we have an optional tour to see the fortified

monastery of St. John and the cave claimed to be where John received the Revelation. Back on the ship, enjoy dinner before settling in to your cabin for the night.

Day 8: Sunday, May 22 - Cruise- Crete / Santorini (B,L,D)

Today we enjoy a tour of Heraklion and the fantastic ruins of the Palace of Knossos. Discovered

in 1899 and partially reconstructed, the elaborate Palace is believed to be the mythical Labyrinth

of King Minos and the seat of ancient Minoan culture.

(4)

This afternoon we visit the island of Santorini, which is considered the most breathtaking of all the Greek Islands. The town of Thira, where white-washed houses, narrow streets, open-air cafes and glittering boutiques cling to steep cliffs, is accessible by foot path, cable-car or mule. You may choose to take an optional sailing tour around an active volcano crater and swimming in the water heated by hot springs or enjoy this lovely island on foot. After a wonderful day, we return to the ship for dinner and evening

entertainment.

Day 9: Monday, May 23 - Athens (B,D)

We disembark the cruise this morning and travel into Athens, the foundation of democracy. We visit the Acropolis, the Parthenon, and Erectheum before viewing Athens atop Mars Hill where St Paul stood and preached the truth to the Gentile nation. If time allows, we visit the Agora (ancient marketplace and center of Athenian public life), the House of Parliament, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Olympic Stadium, and Presidential Palace. We immediately travel west with a rest stop and photos at the Corinth Canal. We then travel to the ancient city of Corinth, another treat for the New Testament scholar. Corinth is the city that inspired many of Paul’s most familiar letters.

We visit the Archaeological Museum, the Market Place, the Bema, and the Temples. As we walk along the stone path that St. Paul walked, we stand in the midst of the ruins of the church of Corinth and see the pillars, steps, and public worship place where Paul preached. We return to Athens tonight for our Farewell dinner and overnight in Athens.

Day 10: Tuesday, May 24 - Depart for Home (B)

Today we transfer to the Athens airport for our flight home. This has been a pilgrimage that will last a lifetime. Walking in the footsteps of St. Paul and early Church, we return to the U.S. with a renewed love for Sacred Scripture and the power of St. Paul’s letters calling us closer to Christ and the Church. The rich moments of historical encounter and musical accompaniment we shared have nourished us as missionary disciples of Jesus!

(Order of events may vary and are subject to change)

Morgantown, West Virginia, currently residing in Brooklyn, New York, she holds a Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from West Virginia University.

Meredith’s first self-produced CD, “What’s Goin’ On!” received rave reviews. Her association with the liturgical music publisher WLP began in 1995. Meredith has performed with some of the best-known songwriters and musicians in the Catholic music industry. The list includes Tony Alonso, John Angotti, Ed Bolduc, Jaime Cortez, Gary Daigle, Bobby Fisher, Sarah Hart, Tom Kendzia, Jessie Manibusan, Danielle Rose, and many others. She is a featured soloist on most of John Angotti’s recordings. Fr. James Marchionda, O.P.

Fr. James ("Jimmy") V. Marchionda, O.P., is a Dominican priest, preacher, composer, conductor, singer, speaker, and woodwind

instrumentalist (clarinet and saxophone.) He offers parish missions and workshops, lectures, and concerts throughout the United States and abroad. A member of the Chicago Dominican Province of St. Albert the Great, he served nine years as Vicar Provincial and is presently Prior Provincial of the Dominican Province of St. Albert the Great.

Fr. Marchionda is composer of over 100 sacred music compositions, including "A Dominican Blessing," "A Festive Alleluia" and a version of

"May the Angels Lead You" which you may have heard at funerals at St.

Albert's.

In an interview, he was asked why he chose to join the Dominicans. His response, that he desired a life of priesthood and preaching which could be combined with a music career, is reflected in the unique and successful ministry he has created that blends preaching with sacred music. In a 2008 recording, Family, Friends and God, Father Marchionda reflects on what it might mean to truly follow Jesus through an understanding of Jesus' living presence in family, friends, and community, and how we are called to live and act to bring about the kingdom of God.

In 2006, Fr. Marchionda was honored as the recipient of the Paluch Family Foundation Liturgy

Award.

Client shall be responsible for paying any increased tour costs associated with any alternate comparable tour or substantially similar re-scheduled tour. Client waives the right to dispute any payments made by credit card or otherwise, whether alleging failure to deliver services or other alleged failure, if a tour is cancelled by JT, by Client or by the tour group's representative as contemplated in Section 4.1 above, as a result of any Act of God.

Airline taxes and fuel surcharges up to the amount specified in the tour brochure are included in the tour price. Client acknowledges that the tour price may be increased by JT after the date of purchase to offset increases in fees, fuel surcharges, taxes and fluctuations in foreign exchange markets or any combination thereof if additional costs are imposed by a supplier or government. The operators providing transportation are not responsible for any act, omission or event during the time that passengers are not on board their aircraft or conveyances. JT has no responsibility or liability of any nature whatsoever for loss, damage, or injury to property or person resulting from the provision of air or motor coach transportation. If Client misses any included transportation segment (e.g.

flight, transfer, bus or train departure), Client is responsible to make arrangements for and to pay the cost of rejoining the group.

12.5. Deviations: Late return deviations are sometimes permitted from the original city of departure, for a minimum fee of $175, if the class of service is still available at time of booking and if the carrier’s fare rules permit the change. All deviations must be applied for by writing, faxing or emailing your request to Jubilate Tours. When a deviation is confirmed by the airline, passengers will be notified and invoiced for all

(10)

charges incurred for their deviation. Each subsequent change is subject to an additional $50 processing fee, plus airline fees once confirmed.

Deviations are difficult, especially during high season, so requests must be made as early as possible. Clients who deviate must arrange for their own ground transportation to and from the airport.

13. FREQUENT FLYER PROGRAM MEMBERS

If Client desires to use frequent flyer miles for free tickets, Client will need to book its flights directly with the airline and purchase a “Land Only”

package from Jubilate Tours. Jubilate Tours is unable to provide ticket copies after departure for mileage credits. Client should check with their preferred carrier to determine if Client qualifies for any mileage accrual.

14. LAND ONLY

Any Client choosing the ‘Land Only’ package after their initial full-tour reservation has been made in writing, faxing or emailing, is subject to a $100 change fee up to 60 days prior to departure. Anyone changing to a ‘Land Only’ option 60 to 0 days prior to departure will be subject to a $1,000 change fee. If Client chooses the ‘Land Only’ option must arrange for their own ground transportation to and from the airports and any mid-tour flights.

15. TOUR PRICES

The services specified are based on a minimum of number of passengers. If this quota is not reached, the price of the tour will be increased proportionately. All tour prices quoted for transportation and land arrangements are based on rates (including foreign exchange rates) and taxes in effect at time of publication and are subject to change. Adjustments will be made if the exchange rate varies more that 3% at 120 days prior to departure. Confirmation of final air and land prices and taxes will be advised at that time.

16. TRAVEL INSURANCE

Travel insurance is recommended to help cover trip cancellation/interruption, whether as a result of Acts of God contemplated by Section 11 above or otherwise, travel delay, emergency medical, baggage delay, and accidental death coverage.

17. PHOTOGRAPHS AND VIDEO IMAGES

Client acknowledges that tour guides employed by JT, as well as other private individuals not employed by JT travelling with the tour, take photographs and videos from time to time during tours. In addition, JT sometimes engages professional photographers and videographers to record tour performances for promotional purposes. Client agrees that JT may use any photographs or images in which Client appears for JT's promotional purposes in any type of media, including its company website, as long as no personally identifiable information, such as an individual traveler's name, address or telephone number, is published along with any likeness or images of such person. Client hereby waives any and all claims against JT arising out of the publication of any photographs or videos taken during any tour by any other individual not employed by or otherwise affiliated with JT.

18. CHAPERONES

Parents, legal guardians or chaperones must accompany and be legally responsible for the custody, care and actions of any minor passengers participating in a tour. Any chaperones must be provided by the school, church or group for which the tour was organized, and all parents, guardians or chaperones shall be responsible for paying their own travel and other tour expenses.

19. CLIENT
