Letter From Our Pastor, Fr. John Paul Lewis Dear brothers and sisters
in Christ,
You may or may not know this, but in the Church, every month is dedicated to a specific devotion or reality.
October, in a special way, is dedicated to the rosary. This is because right in the middle of this month, just this last Thursday, we celebrate the
Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary,
formerly known as Our Lady of Victory. The feast day commemorates the Battle of Lepanto, when an Armada of Spanish ships, vastly outnumbered by the invading Muslim army, miraculously won a decisive victory after praying the rosary asking Mary’s intercession.
I encourage you to look up this story, and see how powerful the intercession of Mary is, especially through the praying of the rosary. It is a beautiful devotion, and draws us deeper into contemplation of the mystery of Jesus Christ, whose life, death, and resurrection we reflect upon as we pray the rosary. I also encourage you to maybe pick up your rosary and pray it a few times this month. That way, we can all grow more deeply in love with the Lord and receive the many graces that he pours out through his Mother into our lives.
In Christ, Fr. John Paul

In today’s gospel, Jesus asks the rich young man to give away
all that he has in order to have treasure in heaven.
But he is unable to free himself from his possessions, and
so he goes sadly away.
Does what I own keep me from following Jesus?

They were exceedingly astonished and said among themselves,
“Then who can be saved?”
Jesus looked at them and said,
“For human beings it is impossible, but not for God.
All things are possible for God.”
