Introduction
Explore the step-by-step procedures for creating a search and submitting an order in the ConsumerViewSM database.
You will learn how to pinpoint consumers with a specific set of criteria. The data selectors that will be used for this tutorial are:
• Geography selection: State
• Demographic selections: Marital Status, Enhanced Estimated Household Income, and Exact and Estimated Age
• Mail-order responder selection: Crafts/Hobby Merchandise Buyer
Creating a search
1. Go to http://www.experian.com/dataselect, the Data Select
SM
homepage is displayed.
Enter the following information in the Get Started Now section:
• User ID
• Password
2. After you have successfully logged on, the system’s main window is displayed. Click on the Start Here! hyperlink located under the ConsumerViewSM Database.

3. This link opens the How to get started screen to start defining your search criteria.
4. Click on the Geography tab and then click on the State button. This opens the window for entering the state codes that will be used to narrow down your search.
5. Select the Western States check box and then Click on the Add Auto-Fill States button.

The window will refresh to display the codes of all Western states in the text boxes.
You also can use the Look Up button to search for the states. The Look Up feature allows you to manually search for the states to be included in the search.
You have just specified the states to be included in the search. The information is now displayed in the task panel under the heading Geography. Click on the “+” sign to view the names of the states.
After the window has refreshed, your selections are automatically displayed in the task panel located in the left portion of the window under the Database Selection heading.
6. To narrow down your search, click on the Selections tab. This opens a window for specifying additional selections.
Click on the Demographics button, and then check “Marital Status,” “Enhanced Estimated Household Income” and “Exact and Estimated Age.” Click on the Continue hyperlink. This opens a window where you can refine the selections you have made.

7. For this search, we want to specify the following information:
• Marital Status: Select “Extremely Likely” and “Likely” married.
• Enhanced Estimated Household Income: Select income ranges from “$50,000 to $250,000+.”
• Exact and Estimated Age: Select age range “25–50.”
You will noticed that Experian’s suggested defaults for One-per Living Unit, Dwelling Type and Recipient Reliability Code selectors will be preselected for you.
Click on the Continue hyperlink. Your selections are automatically displayed in the task panel under the Selections heading.

8. Click the Mail Order Responsive button, and check “Crafts/Hobby Merchandise Buyer.” Click on the Continue hyperlink. This opens a window where you can refine the selections you have made.
9. For this search, we want to specify the following information:
• Mail Order Responsive: Crafts/Hobby Merchandise Buyer “Single” and “Multiple”
Click on the Continue hyperlink. Your selections are automatically displayed in the task panel under the Selections heading.
You have just successfully defined additional parameters in the Selections window to narrow down your search.
10. Click on View Selections button located at the bottom of the screen to display the selections for the search and review the criteria you selected for your count.

11. Click on the Get Total button located in the upper left corner of the screen to determine the total number of records in your search. In this lesson, our search yielded a total of 145,024 records.
12. Before placing an order, you can view the prices for the services offered by the site. To view pricing information, click on View Pricing. To view the pricing for the search that we just performed, click on the Estimate Pricing for My Count tab. This displays the estimated cost of the search.
13. Click on the Place Order button. This will move you into the first screen of the order process where you will begin to enter your order details. For this example, select just 5,000 records from the search.

If you will need to suppress this order from a future order, click the Enable a Suppression File hyperlink to continue, and the following screen will be displayed.
14. Select the format in which you want to receive the records. In the below example, we chose to receive the records in a “CSV (Excel)” file. The information is written in uppercase, and the compression type we chose was “ZIP Format (ZIP).”
Click on the Continue hyperlink. The Order Summary window for specifying billing information for this order opens.
15. Verify that the billing information is correct. Enter your Purchase Order Number, Campaign/Promotion description and your Company or End User information.
To display the Order Cost Breakdown, click on the Click here to view order cost breakdown
hyperlink. The following window will be displayed. To close this window, click the Close Window button.

16. Click on the Continue hyperlink. This opens a window where you can enter the email address where the Internet delivery notification will be sent. Enter an email address, and click on the Continue hyperlink to go to the next window.
17. The Order Summary window opens. Review your order information, specify payment information, and accept the standard license agreement.

19. To view the invoice for your order, click on the Click here to view full invoice for your order hyperlink located at the top of the Order Summary window. A window similar to the following will be displayed.
20. Click on Confirm to confirm your order. An order confirmation will be sent to the email address you have specified.
You have just successfully completed a search and ordered a list.
