Secretariat for Pastoral Life

Staffing Changes — On Sept. 23, Don Clemmer completed his service with the Catholic

Diocese of Lexington to take a full-time position with the NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice. We're grateful for his work for the diocese since early 2019, overseeing the

transformation of Cross Roads to a magazine, building our diocesan social media presence, standardizing our internal and external communications and revamping the CDLEX website.

Mountaintop Mass and Transitus with Bishop Stowe – Oct. 3 at 4 p.m. Join Bishop John Stowe for a Mountaintop Mass celebrating the Season of Creation on the eve of the Feast of St.

Francis of Assisi. We will meet at 4 p.m. at the Auxier Ridge Trailhead parking lot, then hike approximately two miles to a location on the ridge to celebrate Mass.

Following the Mass, at 7 p.m. at Church of the Good Shepherd in Campton, Bishop Stowe will celebrate the Transitus, the ceremony marking Francis of Assisi's passing (transitus) from this world to the next, commemorated throughout the world on the vigil of his feast day. Both events are open to all, and there is no cost to attend. For any questions, please contact Michael Bayer, Director of Youth, Young Adult, and Campus Ministry.

NCYC – Nov. 18-20 (Indianapolis, IN) — There are still a couple of open spots for individuals who would like to attend the National Catholic Youth Conference in Indianapolis. All

participants must be vaccinated, and masks will be worn indoors for all in-person activities. For more information, please contact Melissa Holland.

Google Calendar — In an effort to help everyone keep track of what's going on and what's coming up, we have created shareable Google Calendars. These will list dates for things like Catholic Leadership Institute, high school and middle school retreats, and young adult speaker series.

Diocesan Annual Appeal 2021 — Thank you to everyone who worked to make the kickoff to this year’s annual appeal such a great success! The public campaign for the diocesan annual appeal goes through October 31st. Please encourage parishioners to mail in their gift, drop it at the parish or give online. Please send all gifts to the development office at the diocese and do not process them at the parish level. Please also keep sending out the video in English and Spanish!

Please reach out to Bobbi Silver if you need any help in reaching your parish goal. It’s important now more than ever that we raise funds as one body to provide critical support throughout the diocese. Thank you!

Second Collections — With the Diocesan Annual Appeal campaign in full swing in October, we did not schedule any national second collections for this month.

We will take up a collection for the Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa on November 6-7, 2021.

Here are bulletin announcements parishes can use:

English

This weekend we take up our collection to support the Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa.

The people of Africa are joyous and faith-filled, but as the Church in Africa grows, the pastoral needs of the people also increase. From the formation of clergy to communications programs that bring the Gospel to remote territories to youth ministries that engage the next generation of disciples, the Church’s needs are wide-ranging. The Solidarity Fund is an opportunity for our parish to stand with the people of Africa. Our contributions help them face these challenges, and we support them as they build lasting foundations of missionary discipleship. Please be

generous. To learn more, visit www.usccb.org/africa.

Vanco Egiving — In October, most parishes, schools and ministries will need to verify their Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) compliance. The primary contact for the location should receive an email from Vanco with a link to the compliance site. (Note: the log in credentials for compliance are separate from the location’s Vanco log in credentials.) Once logged in, the primary contact will affirm that the parish is keeping donor data secure.

When the process is complete, the primary contact will receive an email confirming that the location is in compliance for another year.

If you cannot find the log in credentials for compliance, you can enter the Merchant ID number for the location and request a new password. The primary contact on record should receive the new password within one minute. If not, there is a mismatch with the contact name and/or the email address. Call PCI Customer Support at 1-855-815-4816 to correct the login credentials.

Vanco charges $24 per month until compliance is complete.

CrossRoads Updates — Please send along your CrossRoads updates as soon as you receive them for new members and also for members who move, who have passed away, etc. Please include any phone number and email address when you send updates, as this information is very helpful for our other communications.

Stock Gifts — If your location is expecting a gift of stock, please contact Bobbi Silver to let her know who the donor is and the designation. Often, we are unaware of whom the donor is or where it should go, which delays delivery of your funds. This information will be of great help to ensure the funds reach you as quickly as possible. Once the funds are received by the diocese, they will be transferred to the location that they are intended for via electronic transfer into your bank account.

iGiveCatholic — Is your location interested in participating in iGiveCatholic (Giving Tuesday) this year? If so, please contact Bobbi Silver as soon as possible. Registration and page set up must be completed by November 3rd, 2021. Giving Tuesday is on November 30th, 2021!

Monthly Virtual Meeting with the Development Office — The next virtual meeting with the development office is on Wednesday, October 6th at 10 a.m. We won’t have a presentation for this session but instead, will focus on answering any questions you might have regarding any of our fall efforts or to provide advice. These include the Diocesan Annual Appeal, iGiveCatholic, Stewardship Renewals, End of Year Appeals, the Seminarian Education Challenge Gift, or any others you want to talk about.

Asbestos Annual Notification

This notice is to advise parents, teachers, students and all school employees of the Catholic Diocese of Lexington, KY that all Catholic schools of the diocese have been inspected as required by the AHERA federal legislation for the presence of asbestos in school facilities, and are in compliance with both national and state regulations and laws. Micro-Analytics, Inc. of Louisville, KY performed the three year re-inspection during the 2019-2020 school year and developed or renewed plans for each school where asbestos content has been identified and made part of a management plan of the school system.

A complete asbestos management plan for the Office of Catholic Schools is on file at the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lexington, KY, 1310 West Main Street, Lexington, Kentucky 40508-2048. A copy of the asbestos management plan for each individual school is on file in the principal’s office.

As required by AHERA, in addition to the required three-year inspection noted above, a trained person at each school inspects the conditions of the asbestos twice each year and records the results of this review. Federal regulations are also to be followed in remodeling work that might disturb asbestos-containing materials.

We will continue to inform you at least once each year on the status of the Asbestos Management Plan. Be assured that every precaution will be used to protect the well being of students and employees of schools within the Catholic Diocese of Lexington, KY.
