DreamsWork Scholarship

About DreamsWork:

DreamsWork had its unofficial beginnings in the mid-1990s when Trinity United Methodist Church of Elkhart

began to provide growing numbers of tutors for students at Hawthorne Elementary School. With the aid of a

well-qualified steering committee, an Elkhart businessman who had been a mentor with Hawthorne students

for four years established DreamsWork in 2001. The first students (15 fourth-graders) and their mentors

were selected in the fall of 2001. The program began small, evolving and expanding over time. In the fall of

2013, the DreamsWork Youth Success Initiative began which moved the program from a 1:1 mentor model to

group mentoring/club model.

The most basic goal of DreamsWork is that all students participating will graduate from high school with a full

awareness of future possibilities. This knowledge will serve as the stepping stone toward the goal of attending

a college, trade school, or apprenticeship program, and/or attaining certification in a marketable area of

expertise. With post-secondary education comes increased opportunities which will ultimately enable

DreamsWork Scholars to contribute positively to both the economy and the culture. The overriding goal is that

the DreamsWork graduates will be employable, productive citizens who will positively impact the quality of

life and future generations in Elkhart County.
