JOHN CALL TO SHARE Each year during the Archbishop’s Call to Share campaign, we pause and consider all the good that is done because we give: the homeless are sheltered; the elderly are cared for; our seminarians are prepared for future ministry, to name just a few. Giving is a Holy Act! If you have not already done so, please say “YES” to the Archbishop’s Call to Share with a gift today. Gifts of any amount are welcome, although if you are not doing so already, please consider a gift of a dollar a day ($365) or more. Your gift will make everything possible. Please fill out a pledge envelope today or donate online at www.calltoshare.org. INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER AND AWARENESS AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING The Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace and the International Union of Superiors General has designated February 8 as an annual day of prayer and awareness against human trafficking. February 8 is the feast day of St. Josephine Bakhita, who was kidnapped as a child and sold into slavery in Sudan and Italy. Once Josephine was freed, she became a Canossian nun and dedicated her life to sharing her testament of deliverance from slavery and comforting the poor and suffering. She was declared a Saint in 2000. All are encouraged to pray for a greater awareness about this phenomenon. Through prayer, we not only reflect on the experiences of those that have suffered through this affront to human dignity, but also comfort, strengthen, and help empower survivors. How I wish that all of us would hear God’s cry: ‘Where is your brother?’ (Gen. 4:9). Where is your brother or sister who is enslaved? Where is the brother and sister whom you are killing each day in clandestine warehouses, in rings of prostitution, in children used for begging, in exploiting undocumented labor? Let us not look the other way." - Pope Francis, Evangelli Gaudium RCIA On February 9th @ 7:00 PM, the RCIA class will be reflecting on the following topic: Anointing. Please join us. THANK YOU I wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all those who through their texts, emails, cards, and visits have ministered to me during this time of my recovery. Total Previous YTD Income. I recently watched the film adaptation of "Godspell" with my teenage daughter. I had such fond memories of watching it when I was young, back in the day. I listened to the soundtrack so many times and learned to play many of the songs on my guitar. The exclamation from the show, "You are the light of the world!" has always been firmly planted in my mind. After about ten minutes, my daughter looked at me with that look only a teenage girl can display. "What is this?" she asked with a certain level of condescension. Yes, the film did not hold up so well in the eyes of the twenty-first-century critic. So we laughed most of the way through it. What attracted me to the film and the soundtrack in the first place wasn't Jesus in a Superman shirt or the idea of the apostles wondering around the urban jungle. I was attracted to the message. I was attracted to that assertion in the song, "You are the light of the world." There will always be people who see the Gospel of Jesus Christ as dated, irrelevant, and even hokey. You and I are called to be the light of the world? Good stewards must never shy away from living lives that truly bear witness to the reality of the Gospel. The parables of Jesus have as much meaning for us today as ever. Look around. The world we live in needs a little light for sure.. $ 688,824.88. MARRIAGE MINUTE It’s kickoff time! When you hear that, you are probably thinking of the Super Bowl, which is one of the most “sacred” events of our secular culture. However, in addition to crowning a football champion this weekend, it is also time to kick off National Marriage Week. While National Marriage Week does not have the pomp and circumstance that the football game has, perhaps it should. While Super Bowl Sunday is a great opportunity to come together with friends and watch incredible athletes achieve the heights of athletic performance, it is also a great opportunity to gain insight on how to strive for excellence in our own marriage. What if we approached our marriage in the same way these incredible athletes approached this game? What if we prioritized and sacrificed to achieve the heights of marital joy with the same intentionality these athletes have sacrificed to be crowned champion? For your joyful marriage training protocol, go to www.JoyfulMarriageProject.com.. ST. MATTHEW GALA All are invited to a meeting this Sunday, February 5, 5:30 p.m., in the St. Matthew Room at the Parish Conference Center.
