6741 Rock Hill Road – Affton, Missouri 63123-3198
Dear parishioners:
From all the triumph that comes with Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, it is darkness that awaits Him by week’s end. It is not the strewn palm
branches or the crowds approving shouts that proclaim Jesus’ ministry and message. Instead, it is the simple moments and the darkest hours. Only when the Son of God ties a towel around His waist to wash the feet of his disciples, does His commandment of love become clear. Only when Jesus dies, arms spread on a cross, is God’s love for the world made visible. Come enter into the Triduum, the Three Days, so that strength-ened by His love, we can live His command of love.
Come on Holy Thursday to wash feet and feed on the gift of Jesus’ Body and Blood. Come on Good Friday to enter into His Passion and venerate the cross, that life-giving tree.
Come on Holy Saturday to the Easter Vigil, to share Easter joy with the newly baptized, received, con-firmed and professed. Come share in the love of God shown us in the suffering, dying and rising of His Son, Jesus!
Come welcome our guests and celebrate with your parish family!
In Christ, Fr. John 1406

Holy Week
A Glorious Week
In our modern culture, we celebrate Christmas as “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year”, complete with songs, gifts, feasts, and even a spe-cial Mass at Midnight. But in the eyes of the Church, Christmas is only a secondary holiday. Jesus’ birth is significant only because of his Passion, Death and Resurrection. The “Holiday” is so important that we actually take three full days to celebrate it. The Church uses the word “Triduum” , literally meaning “three days” to refer to this, the highlight of our year. Through the Liturgies of these three days, we remember the historical events of Jesus’ life. We come together as a Church to enter into the mystery of our own death and resurrection.
Holy Thursday is The Mass of the Lord’s Supper. It will be celebrated at 7pm. The Mass focuses on the gift of the Eucharist and on the loving service Christ called us to, through his own example. A procession honors the Blessed Sacrament, the gift of God’s own Body and Blood. The newly blessed Holy Oils will be solemnly received by the Parish. This Mass takes about an hour and a half.
Good Friday is the only day of the year we do not celebrate Mass. Instead, we come together to reflect on the Passion, to venerate the Cross, to kneel in com-mon prayer and silent meditation. This evening lasts approximately an hour to an hour and a half.
The Easter Vigil is the heart of our Easter Celebration. We gather in darkness, at 7:30pm (just after sunset) to light the New Fire, light the Easter Candle, and pass this light from person to person. The Light of Christ has truly overcome the darkness of death!!! Then in the light of the Easter Candle we retell our story of sin and salvation. At this Mass, the RCIA Candidates will make a Profession of Faith and receive the Sacra-ments of Eucharist and Confirmation.
Please remember the RCIA The Elect & Candidates in your prayers: Brianna Beaver, Emma Blankenship, Brandon Radcliff,
Kyle Blasingame, Tracey Borgmeyer, Sam Gladney, Ximena Jauregui, Megan Radcliff & Jean Schaffer All are warmly welcomed and encouraged to attend this unique and wonderful ritual as a Parish Family!!! NO CONFESSIONS will be heard on Holy Saturday.
