INDUSTRY DEMAND
Employment of enrolled nurses in New South Wales is forecast to increase by around 13.5% between now and 2025. Currently, employers are struggling to find enrolled nurses as our ageing population is driving the demand for health care services and professionals.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
When you study with TAFE NSW, we want you to succeed. Entry requirements allow us to make sure that you have the right pre-existing knowledge and skills to achieve your chosen qualification. You will need to provide evidence that you meet the requirements listed in this section.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
There are 4 steps to apply for entry to this course:
 Submit an application form. Enquire now to receive your application form.
1.
 Complete a language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) assessment. To continue to the next stage, you must achieve an English language result of Level 3 or above.
2.
 In addition to the LLN assessment, to register with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as an Enrolled Nurse, you must meet the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australias (NMBA) English language requirements before you enrol with TAFE NSW.
You must meet the NMBAs English language skills registration standard by providing evidence and declaring that English is your primary language or providing a valid ELS test result.
3.
 Attend an interview and provide evidence that you have completed Year 12 of high school or a Certificate III qualification or its equivalent.
4.
COURSE SUCCESS REQUIREMENTS
For the Diploma of Nursing, you must be at least 18 years old for your first work placement.
During your study, you may need to meet the following requirements to be able to undertake work placement within industry. Your teacher will let you know when you need to provide evidence of:
Working with Children Check (WWCC)
A current clear Australian National Police Record Check
Current vaccinations including flu (influenza) and COVID-19 and other health department immunisation requirements. A NDIS Worker Screening Check
Any additional evidence your work placement provider requires
Students will be responsible for costs associated with obtaining these required checks and vaccinations. If your work placement is with NSW Health you will also need to:
 Sign the NSW Health Code of Conduct and any other forms

 Take an occupational assessment and provide your health care worker/student vaccination record

WORK PLACEMENT
During your course, you will undertake a mandatory 440 hours of work placement with a suitable industry employer. This meets the minimum 400 hours required by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC). TAFE NSW will arrange your work placement.

Certain aspects of assessment rely on your physical ability to perform 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on adult and infant manikins at floor level, and respond to an emergency where there may be a risk to life.
If you are unable to meet these physical requirements, you will not be able to complete this course.

TAFE NSW will only grant credit for HLTENN units completed with a provider accredited by ANMAC, and recognised as an approved program of study by the NMBA in accordance with the Enrolled Nurse Accreditation Standards. Visit

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
You need to be a registered practitioner to apply for jobs in the industry. Completion of an NMBA approved Diploma of Nursing program will make you eligible to apply to the NMBA for registration as an Enrolled Nurse.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.
To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you have:
 Applicants must meet minimum entry equirements which include a Certificate III or higher, Higher School Certificate, minimum LLN screening and English language requirements including evidence.

 Immunisations required by Ramsay Health and NSW Health for clinical work placement are mandatory and evidence will be required on commencement of course delivery. Failure to provide Immunisation information will result in non completion of mandatory requirements and non course completion.

To successfully complete this course, you will need:
 Physical fitness and aptitude must be demonstrated to meet assessment requirements including HLTAID003, performing CPR on the floor.
Workplacement is a requirement of this course. You will need to complete:
 Students will be required to undertake compulsary work placement hours and must agree to the immunisation verification process for occupational assessment, screening and vaccination against infectious diseases. 440 unpaid workplace hours will be organised by TAFE NSW in conjuntion with Ramsay Health or NSW Health and or TAFE approved facility to meet the minimum 400 hours required to meet training package requirements. Work placement locations will be based on availability and may require travel within the Southern region (Bega, Canberra and Illawarra Local Area Health region). Travel and accommodation for work placement is at students' own cost. Work placement is undertaken in separate block weeks. 8-hour shifts both morning and afternoon, Monday to Friday, or as rostered.

STUDY COMMITMENT
This is a full-time blended course. You will need to attend approximately 24 hours of class, over 3 days a week, for 18 months. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 17 hours of other study per week.
You may also be required to complete approximately 12 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, research, asisgnment preparation and study groups.
This 18 month course is delivered over 4 Blocks. Block ONE 11 weeks, Block TWO 7 weeks, Block THREE 7 weeks and Block FOUR 2 weeks. Assessment week and flexible delivery weeks in addition to each block. Mandatory workplacement is programmed after each delivery block to a total of 440 unpaid hours.
This course is delivered by MS Teams Connected Classroom (Virtual Classroom) and face-to-face on-campus clinical skills and or theory delivery days. MS Teams is like a regular classroom experience, with the use of technology to bring everyone together through a virtual group video call. You will be able to see and talk to your teacher and other students. You can join the class from any TAFE location or your home computer. Teachers and students can present course materials, engage and interact, or work in small groups as though they were in the room with you. If able, students are encouaged to bring own device. Theory delivery may change to face-to-face delivery pending COVID restrictions and local policy.
IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?
A graduate from the Diploma of Nursing program approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) is able to apply for registration with the NMBA as an Enrolled Nurse under the Australian Health Practitioners Agency (AHPRA).
This qualification reflects the role of an enrolled nurse working under supervision of a registered nurse. This qualification covers the application of skills and knowledge required to provide nursing care for people across the health sector. A lifespan approach should underpin this qualification with relevant competencies that relate to the different stages of life identified within the units. Scholarship recipients may be offered employment in a NSW Health facility following
successful completion of the Diploma and registration as an Enrolled Nurse, subject to standard recruitment processes. This offer is valid for two years from the course commencement date. Employment may be on a full-time, part-time, or casual basis (minimum 2 shifts per week).

First Qualification Fee
Applies to a student who does not already hold a post-school qualification from any tertiary sector (TAFE, private provider or University), and includes any vocational (certificates, Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas) and higher education (degree) qualifications achieved in Australia or overseas previously.
Subsequent Qualification Fee
Applies to a student who already holds one or more post-school qualifications from any tertiary sector (TAFE, private provider or University), and includes any vocational (certificates, Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas) and higher education (degree) qualifications achieved in Australia or overseas previously.
Apprenticeship Fee
Eligible apprentices are exempt from fees when undertaking an apprenticeship under the NSW Government's Fee Free Apprenticeship. For apprentices who are not eligible, apprenticeship qualification fees are capped at $2,000.

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process.

PAYMENT OPTIONS AND ASSISTANCE
This course is approved for a Commonwealth VET Student Loan (VSL). If you meet the VSL eligibility and academic suitability requirements, you are able to apply to the Commonwealth for a loan to cover all or part of your course fee. We will ask you whether you would like to apply for a VET Student Loan when you enrol and advise you of the process.
To complete your VET Student Loan application, you will need to provide:
 Your Tax File Number (TFN). If you dont have a TFN, click here for information on how to apply for one. You can complete your loan application with a Certificate of Application for a TFN, but must provide your TFN as soon as it is issued. If you dont provide your TFN before your first census day, you will need to pay the tuition fees for that unit of study.

 Your Commonwealth Higher Education Student Support Number (CHESSN) ). If you have previously accessed a loan via the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP), either at TAFE or university, you will already have a CHESSN. You must use the same CHESSN whenever you access a student loan. If you dont have CHESSN, we will allocate one on your behalf.

To be eligible for a VET Student Loan, you will need to be assessed as academically suitable to undertake
high level VET study. You will need to provide:
 A copy of your Australian Year 12 Certificate; OR

 A copy of a certificate showing that you have been awarded a qualification at level 4 or above in the Australian Qualifications Framework (where the language of instruction was English). If you previously completed a Certificate IV or higher qualification at TAFE NSW, just let us know where and when you studied in your application; OR

 Display competence at Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework in both reading and numeracy through an approved Language, Literacy and Numeracy test. We will let you know if this is required once you apply.
