Safety Nonstop for airports
40 years experience in safety technology
HIMA safety systems protect the assets of the world’s major oil and gas, chemical, pharmaceutical and energy-producing companies as well as systems in the fi elds of logistics, machine safety and rail traffi c. We have applied this know-how and our broad experience to the development of safe and proven solutions for a wide variety of airport areas. Our highly qualifi ed engineers have extensive experience with airport applications.
Permanent safety and profi tability
All HIMA airport solutions are based on proven HIMA safety controllers, featuring intuitive programming and the capacity to be networked and integrated with cross-manufacturer communication interfaces. The result: HIMA solutions are always a perfect fi t in any technical environment, whether it involves a conversion project or new investment. As with all HIMA solutions, the foundation of the company’s solu-tions is the ‘Safety. Nonstop.’ principle. They not only create permanent safety, but they also prevent unnecessary stops and help to achieve uninterrupted and profi table system/ plant operations.

HIMA. Safety. Nonstop.
It’s a philosophy more than 100 years in the making. It’s built on HIMA’s singular focus on safety and is proven by decades of technology breakthroughs. It represents our commitment to providing maximum safety and uninterrupted plant operations. Our goal isn’t just to design the world’s best safety systems. It’s to help keep your business safe and running. No shutdowns. No failures. Maximum uptime. Maximum profi tability.
In the airport safety sector, HIMA offers solutions for nearly all safety-critical applications. Whether refuelling systems, baggage handling systems or terminals: HIMA offers seamless safety throughout all areas. Based on its proven safety technol-ogy, HIMA provides innovative solutions, powerful products and extensive services. The advantages for the airport operator: Maximum safety, fl exibility and profi tability.

Single-channel design of safety loops
Reduced installation efforts
High degree of planning and investment fl exibility thanks to open systemsAirport safety often depends on responses within frac-tions of a second. HIMA solufrac-tions are as quick as a fl ash. Featuring very short response times of up to 5 ms, our HIMatrix® series safety-related controllers and remote
I/Os are among the fastest of their type in the world.
Combining the HIMatrix safety-related systems with the safety bus safeethernet, the high-availability HIMax®
sys-tem and guaranteed redundant communications, HIMA is able to provide the perfect safety solutions for airports.
Fast reaction and high availability
HIMatrix safety controllers
Compact and modular safety controllers as well as remote I/O modules
Proven HIMA safety technology
Certifi ed for use up to SIL 3 in accordance with IEC 61508 50128 and up to PL e in accordance with EN 13849
Response times of 5 ms possible
Communication: Ethernet TCP/UDP, RS485, RS422, RS232
Communication via safeethernet and numerous industrialprotocols such as PROFINET, PROFIsafe via PROFINET, Modbus TCP. Proprietary protocols can be created by the user
If necessary, the high-availability safety system canbe integrated into the network
Four scenarios exemplify how HIMA safety systems work
Scenario 1: Leak in the kerosene pipeline to the tank farm
There is an extremely high risk of fi re and explosion. HIMA's emergency shutdown (ESD) system detects and locates the leak. The affected pipeline area is shut down immediately. The integration of the HIMA sys-tem into the airport control syssys-tem ensures that the emergency scenarios for the nearby parking garage run according to plan.
Scenario 2: Fire in the terminal
Due to a short-circuit, a coffee machine in a terminal service room catches fi re. The fi re detection system alerts the HIMatrix system. All corresponding safety functions are triggered quickly and reliably. HIMA's in-telligent evacuation management initiates evacuation in the affected part of the building. A mixing of people in restricted und unrestricted areas is avoided; impact on airport traffi c is insignifi cant.
Scenario 3: Accident in the baggage conveyor system
Maintenance work is progressing on the baggage con-veyor system. Suddenly, someone screams. A worker is pulled by the hand into the conveyor system. But thanks to HIMA's networked safety system, another staff member can activate the emergency stop from a distance and shut down the plant in a split second.
Scenario 4: Explosion on the airport apron
A plane waiting on the airport apron is losing oil from its engine. It catches fi re, and the jet engine explodes. The refuelling plant is safely shut down through the network of remote HIMatrix systems, the airport fi re department is informed and the evacuation of the neighbouring departure terminal is initiated. The re-dundant ring structure for communication guarantees the maximum availability of all systems.
If necessary, the safety network can be structured redundantly
HIMatrix – HIMax, redundant network via safeethernet
HIMA's safety solutions control and regulate dynamic scenarios. The safety-related programmable logic controllers (PLCs) serve as superordinate management systems and reliably connect the broadest variety of different protection-relevant
areas with one another. All components and I/O extensions (RIOs) are integrated into the overall signalling concept of the airport. The connection to the existing airport control system is established via a protocol such as Modbus TCP.
Fully integration capable
An engineering tool for all the functions
SILworX® is the fully integrated confi guration, programming
and diagnostic tool from HIMA. The intuitive user interface with graphical drag and drop programming reduces application errors and speeds up the engineering process. A range of user levels, the display of all status and diagnostic information, and comprehensive validation tools guarantee quick planning and commissioning.
Flexible programming using function block diagrams, sequential function charts
IEC 61131-3 compliant, supporting all functions and variable types for safety-related programmingSeamless control throughout all levels
safeethernet solutions are based on standard Ethernet technology (IEEE 802.3) and offer:
TÜV-certifi ed up to PL e, Cat. 4, and SIL 3
Data transfer at 100 Mbit/s
Very short reaction times ensured within the required safety time
No restrictions in terms of physical distance
Up to 128 systems per Ethernet segment can be networked
Intelligent, diversifi ed redundancy concepts
