Association

Mission

The Mission of the Spring Lake Park Softball Association is to provide the youth in the Spring Lake Park School District #16 attendance area the opportunity to learn and enjoy the game of fastpitch softball at competitive level.

Focus

Our focus is on teaching fastpitch softball fundamentals, promoting team play, improving individual skills and having fun in order to promote a life-long enjoyment of the game of fastpitch softball.

Goal

Our goal is to create a positive environment through reinforcement of fundamental skills and a competitive team atmosphere.

SLPSA demands a high degree of ethical conduct by all its coaches, players, volunteers and parents so that it

Teams

We are offering 6 Levels of teams for 2021:

8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U and Panther Pride Special Needs

We will have enough athletes to field teams at each age level. The number of teams is dependent on the number of athletes registered.

The Maximum number of athletes on a team is 14.

We will do everything in our power not to cut athletes. If we do have to cut athletes, SLPSA is willing to help and facilitate conversations with neighboring communities in an effort to keep your daughter playing fastpitch softball in 2021.

8U:

Machine pitch league for girls with little or no knowledge of softball Season runs April – July

1 game per week (Mon or Wed) 1 practice a week (Mon or Wed)

End of season Jamboree with local communities No volunteer fee or requirements

10U:

Season runs April - July

1 Double Header per week on Tuesday nights 1-2 Practices a week

2+ Invitational tournaments, State Qualifier and State/Nationals if qualified for. Volunteer fee: $200 (see Volunteer tab on www.slpfastpitch.com)

Fees

Fees are proportionate to the age level of play:

The older teams have more inner-league games & tournaments.

SLPSA is a Not-For-Profit 501(c)3 organization, but we do have operating costs that need to be met to provide the best possible experience for our athletes.

Evaluations

Evaluations will be conducted at the 10U, 12U, 14U and 16U

14U and 16U evaluations are conducted in March 22- April 1 of the current year. 10U and 12U evaluations are conducted in March 22- April 1 of the current year.

Players will be assessed by qualified and independent evaluators.

We strive to make this a consistent as possible year over year.

A combination of evaluator scores & coaches selections will be used to form each team 10U – 16U. **See handbook for more information.

A non-refundable $25 evaluation fee was included in your registration cost. This fee helps cover facilities rental & evaluators for the pre-evaluation sessions as well as the evaluations themselves.

Once evaluations have begun the registration fee is no longer refundable.

If an athlete does not make a team, their registration fee is refunded less the $25 evaluation fee & any processing fees.

Pre-Evaluation Practice Sessions :

→ Dates – Tuesday March 23 and Thursday March 25. → Time – 6:15pm – 7:45pm (10U)

→ Time – 8:15pm – 9:45pm (12U) → Where – Westwood Middle School

Please arrive 10 minutes early and be prepared to “take the field” at your scheduled start time.

Pre-Evaluation Practice Sessions are NOT required.

Pre-Evaluation Practices will be led by the same individuals that will be conducting our evaluations.

Please arrive 15 minutes early and be prepared to “take the field” at your scheduled start time.

Athletes will be provided an evaluation # to pin on their shirts.

Evaluations are required – you may attend one or both sessions. Sessions will be identical from a skill and evaluator perspective.

Previous Experience & Knowledge of Fastpitch Softball.

Parent & Player evaluations from previous year(s) if applicable. Commitment to the mission of SLPSA.

Coaches Expectations:

Complete the online registration application.

Fulfill all coaches training requirements (concussion/ACE/Background). Attend player evaluations, required coaches meeting & coaches clinic.

Volunteering

Volunteering is essential in trying to keep each families cost down.

10U – 16U Families are required to pay a $200 volunteer Fee. This fee is due at Evaluations. Your daughter can not begin the evaluation process until we have collected your $200 Volunteer Fee.

Volunteer Expectations:

1 Shift at the Panther Classic (SLPSA Sponsored tournament) May 15th.

Due to COVID-19 we are not selling concessions at League Games in 2021

Volunteer Fees will be cashed no later than June 15th for anyone that hasn’t

Panther Classic – SLPSA Tournament

SLPSA will be hosting our annual 10U/12U tournament on May 15th at Fridley

Community Park.

The Panther Classic helps offset your costs but can’t be conducted without volunteers:

New for 2021, Volunteers will use the DIBS portal on our website –

Families must volunteer for 1 shift at the Panther Classic. Plan

accordingly; we will do our best to make sure our 14U and 16U teams are not playing that weekend. That said, we can not control the

* If a team earns a berth into the National Tournament by finishing 1st or 2nd in the GOLD or SILVER bracket,

SLPSA will pay for all incurred sanctioning fees & registration fees. The attending team will be responsible for all other costs.

Uniforms

Athletes that will need new uniforms for 2021:

Uniforms will be the same as they were in 2019 (10U-16U). Plan on purchasing new jersey tops if your athletes jersey no longer fits.

SLPSA will provide 8U athletes with a t-shirt jersey top.

8U is only required to have a Jersey Top.

Many families do choose to purchase the entire uniform.

10U – 16U are required to have: Jersey top, black pants, red belt & blue socks. Each family is required to order uniforms from Athletic Outfitters by DATE.

After moving SLPSA to SportsEngine in 2019 we have updated our website and made it more user friendly. Please make sure to visit our site for updates and to get

SLPSA has added the DIBS portal on www.slpfastpitch.com. DIBS is the ONLY way you are allowed to signup for volunteer hours and will be the book of record for tracking hours completed.

SLPSA will encourage all of our coaches to utilize Sports Engine for communication and scheduling.

SLPSA will initially load all practice schedules into Sports Engine. It will be the coaches responsibility to add games and make updates.
