FUTURE CONTINUOUS TENSE

Exercise 1 – Verbs

Give the correct form of the verbs in brackets.

1. I guess you (feel) thirsty after working in the sun. (will be feeling) 2. You (wait) for her when her plane arrives tonight. (will be waiting) 3. You (miss) the sunshine once you are back in England. (will be missing)

4. I (see) Jim at the conference next week. (shall be seeing)

5. When he is in Australia, he (stay) with his friends. (will be staying) 6. I (eat) with Jane this evening so I can tell her. (shall be eating) 7. Just think, next Monday you (work) in your new job. (will be working)

Exercise 2 – Negatives

a) Write the following into the negative .

Exercise 4 – Question Tags

Add a question tag to the following sentences.

1. I shall be waiting for the shops to open, shan’t I? 2. They will be seeing Jane tomorrow, won’t they?

3. The universe will be expanding and has been since its beginning, won’t it? 4. My sister will be living at home for the moment, won’t she?

5. Rahul will be doing his homework, won’t he? 6. We shall be waiting for you, shan’t we? 7. The dog will be chasing the cat, won’t it?

8. John will be reading a book now, won’t he? 9. We will be having a sleep-over tonight, won’t we? 10. Jack and Peter will be working late today, won’t they?

Exercise 5 –Direct and Indirect speech

Change the following from the direct speech to the indirect speech. You will note that before each direct sentence there are “says/said”. Use both when answering the question. This means there will be two answers per question.

1. She says/said, “We shall be working day and night to succeed”

She says that they will be working day and night to succeed. She said that they would be working day and night to succeed.

2. They say/said, “The group will be trying hard to achieve success”

They say that the group will be trying to achieve success. They said that the group would be trying to achieve success.

3. She says/said, “I shall be watching my favourite movie”

She says that she will be watching her favourite movie. She said that she would be watching her favourite movie.

4. He says/said, “I shall be looking to buy your favorite gift next week”

He says that he will be looking to buy your favourite gift next week.

He said that he would be looking to buy your favourite gift the following week.

5. He says/said to me, “Students will be going to school today”

He says to me that students will be going to school today. He said to me that students would be going to school that day.

6. I say/said to him, “It will be hard changing a set rule”

I say to him that it will be hard changing a set of rules. I said to him that it would be hard changing a set of rules.

7. He says/said, “I shall be trying to achieve this goal by tomorrow”

He says that he will be trying to achieve this goal by tomorrow. He said that he would be trying to achieve that goal by the following day/the next day.

8. Maria says/said, “Lucy will be thinking to get study notes from university”

Maria says that Lucy will be thinking to get study notes from university. Maria said that Lucy would be thinking to get study notes from university.

9. Alex says/said, “They will be trying hard to solve this narration exercise the end of this day”

Alex says that they will be trying hard to solve this narration exercise the end of this day.

Alex said that they would be trying to solve that narrations exercise the end of that day.

10. I ask/asked him, “Will you be filing a complaint the day after tomorrow?”

I ask him if/whether he will be filing a complaint the day after tomorrow. I asked him if/whether he would be filing for a complaint in two days time.
