1. Add or create an email address using the Email Settings icon located either in the Setup folder or on the device home screen.

3. When prompted that an email address does not currently exist for your BlackBerry smartphone, click Add.

2. If you agree to the legal terms and conditions, select Yes after the statement I have read and understand the End User Agreement. Then click I Accept.

4. Click the Email Service Provider (i.e., @yahoo.com) you want to add to your device. If your Email Service Provider is not listed, click Other to input your email address. Click Next.

5. Type the email address and password for the account, and click Next. A confirmation screen will appear when the address has been added. Click Next.

Got something to say? BBM™ message it! Use BlackBerry Messenger to stay in touch with your friends who already use BlackBerry smartphones.

Change your status and display picture to suit your mood. During a chat, share pictures, voice notes and contact attachments. Use the BlackBerry® Groups feature to create a group of family members, friends or co-workers. And keep the conversation going wherever, whenever.

Change your display picture or display name

You can choose which name and picture you want your contacts on BlackBerry Messenger to see when they BBM™ message you – and change them up at any time.

1. On the Home screen or in the Instant Messaging folder, click the icon.

2. On the Contact List screen, press the key.

3. Click My Profile.

4. Perform any of the following actions:

• To change your display picture, press the key. Click Change Display Picture. Click a picture. If necessary, center the picture in the box. Press the key. Click Crop and Save.

• To change your display name, type a new name.

5. Press the key.

6. Click Save.

Display your profile barcode on your device

When you display the barcode for your BlackBerry

Messenger profile on your device, other people can scan your barcode and add you to their BlackBerry Messenger Contact List.

1. On the Home screen or in the Instant Messaging folder, click the BlackBerry Messenger icon.

2. On the Contact List screen, press the key.

Add a contact by scanning a barcode

Adding contact information to your BlackBerry Messenger contact list is easy – just use the camera on your BlackBerry Curve to scan a person’s barcode.

1. On the Home screen or in the Instant Messaging folder, click the BlackBerry Messenger icon.

2. On the Contact List screen, press the key.

3. Click Invite Contact.

4. Click Scan a person’s barcode.

5. Click Continue.

6. Hold your device so that all four corners of the barcode appear on your device screen. Continue to hold the device until you hear the success beep. You can also add a contact by typing an email address or PIN. If you add a person who uses SMS text messaging as a contact to BlackBerry Messenger, you can send SMS text messages to and receive SMS text messages from the person in BlackBerry Messenger. However, your BlackBerry smartphone must be running BlackBerry® Device Software version 5.0 or later.

Changing your ring tone

You can set how you are notified when you receive a phone call, email or text message.

1. From the Home screen, go to Sounds. Click Set Ring Tones/Alerts.

2. Use the trackpad to select the type of communication.

3. Use the trackpad to scroll and click on the Ring Tone field.

4. Choose a preloaded or downloaded ring tone from the list, previewing each ring tone as you scroll. Downloaded ring tones can be found by selecting Browse.

5. Press the key and select Save.

Note: You can also change your ring tone through the Profiles application.

Downloading a ring tone

Find a great selection of ringtones and ringback tones, games, and themes straight from your smartphone. Look for the Tone Room Deluxe and Games & Themes icons on your home screen.

Creating Home screen folders

Organize your applications or pictures into folders so you can find them quickly and easily.

1. From the Home screen, press the key and click Add Folder.

2. Enter in the name of the folder and click Add.

Organize your icons into folders or move them to a different location on your Home screen that’s convenient for you.

1. Scroll to the icon you would like to move and press the key.

2. Scroll and click Move or Move to Folder.

3. If you choose Move, you will notice the icon is

highlighted. Move the icon to the desired location and click the trackpad. If you choose Move to Folder, scroll through the list and select the desired folder.

Changing your wallpaper

Make your smartphone’s Home screen a fresh, fun place to visit with your choice of wallpapers.

1. On the Home screen, click the key and select Options.

2. Click Wallpaper.

3. Choose an image by clicking on the image.

4. Press the key and click Set As Wallpaper. To clear the picture from the Home screen, press the

key on the Home screen. Click Options. Click Theme Defaults and select Wallpaper. Click Apply.

Changing your default folder

for application downloads

1. On the Home screen, click the key and click Options.

2. Click the Downloads folder.

3. Scroll through and select an option.

4. Click Save.

The folder you selected will now be the default folder for any downloaded applications.

Downloading applications

Any applications you download will be saved automatically in the Downloads folder. You can change this folder, create a new folder, or move these icons to another folder or to your Home screen.

Multitasking – switching between applications

You can quickly switch between applications,

allowing you to multitask easily.

1. Press and hold the key to show a list of applications currently running.

2. To quickly jump between apps, use the trackpad to scroll over to and select another application.

Push delivery

Your BlackBerry Curve 3G delivers all emails, text messages, instant messages, Facebook® updates and MySpace® notifications to your messages inbox as soon as they arrive. You can connect up to 10 supported email accounts, including popular accounts such as Gmail® and Yahoo!® Mail. News feeds and updates from apps like Ticketmaster® will also appear as they arrive.
