Preface
Dear Reader,
The outstanding ISGUS event in 2010 so far was the “participation” at the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, where ISGUS supplied the security system for the German Houses in Vancouver and Whistler. Thus ISGUS helped that German athletes and officials, sponsors and VIP's could smoothly and quickly get access to the locations where medal parties, TV interviews & shows, and all kind of events took place during the games.
Read more in this ISGUS News about the challenges and experiences on site for the ISGUS team who installed the system, supported the volunteer operating staff and provided the necessary evaluations and reports to the Deutsche Sport Marketing GmbH, the official ISGUS contractee.
With the Olympics, once again we have given proof that ISGUS has much more to offer than Time & Attendance. ZEUS ACCESS is no longer a pure access control system, but caters also for high security, including integration with alarm & facility management or CCTV.
Other ZEUS modules like ZEUS StaffPlanning and ZEUS PDC ensure that your most valuable capital, your human resources, is utilized in the optimal way and that your company processes become more transparent and efficient.
Read about some of our customers and how ZEUS helped to provide them with the solution they were looking for - as it is not the product but the solution which makes the difference for the customer!
Yours sincerely, ® ® ® ® ®

Sylvia Martin-Knoch Export ManagerPC's, access readers, web cams, printers and turnstiles had already been air freighted to Canada early in February. The Schenker Group, in charge of the transportation and logistics on-site, also control their operations using the ISGUS solution in nearly all of their locations, this is also ser-viced by the IVS Zeit + Sicherheit GmbH.
ISGUS supplied the complete access control solution, both hard-and software, controlling, monitoring and maintaining a secure environment for the German House which was the official meeting point, for not only the German Olympic Sports Association (DOSB) but also for all German athletes and visitors to the House i.e., journalists, sponsors and leading names from within politics and society.
The German House in Vancouver was accommodated within the Simon Fraser University buil-ding whereas the Golf- and Country Club in Whistler, where the nordic and alpine ski competi-tions took place, was chosen as the location to accommodate the German team.
Whilst ISGUS concentrated and focused on the technical specification of the installation, the IVS Zeit + Sicherheit partner was responsible for the project implementation and communication with the other associate partners of the Deutsche Sport Marketing GmbH, the official marketing agency for the German House.
It was apparent from the first meeting, that the requirements for the system were challenging and could not be covered by standard access control functionalities. Therefore upon arrival at the German House reception area, each visitor was provided with a badge containing his/her personal data, which had previously been registered in conjunction with a web accreditation procedure recorded in the database. Of course it was also possible to record the data on site, as the German House personnel had been thoroughly trained to operate the software and the web cams.
In accordance with the accreditation, an individual access profile was assigned to each visitor on the Legic advant chip inside the badge. It was therefore possible to control the length of time and in which zones they had access to. In order to avoid misuse of the badges, the image mat-ching functionality was also included, e.g. when a visitor presented his/her badge in front of the ISGUS reader, the passport photograph would be displayed on a monitor. In the event of a “no match”, security personnel would immediately “step in” to resolve the situation.
The ISGUS solution also solved the accounting issues relating to vending costs for visitors and catering services, thereby simplifying an otherwise time consuming task.
As a grand finale: bringing a successful conclusion to our joint cooperation, Axel Achten, Mana-ging Director of the Deutsche Sport-Marketing GmbH in Frankfurt said, “The German House in Vancouver 2010 has been a great success, to which our partner ISGUS has decisively contri-buted, thanks to its state of the art accreditation and access control system”.
Safety and Security
in the German House
in Vancouver and Whistler
The combined “state of the art” technology,
know-ledge and extensive experience of the ISGUS group
has been extensively utilised during the winter
Olympic games in Canada. ISGUS GmbH along with
their sales and service partner IVS Zeit + Sicherheit
GmbH were specifically responsible for the access
control of approximately 10.000 visitors to the
Ger-man House in Vancouver and at its other location in
Whistler.

Mounting of a turnstile.
Folkert and Roland, tell me, what were your first thoughts when you were informed that you will have the responsibility for securing access to the German House in Vancouver? Folkert:
Roland:
How much time did you spend for preparations in the run-up phase? Roland:
Folkert, you were part of the first team that travelled to Vancouver and Whistler. What were your thoughts and emotions?
Folkert:
What was the duration of installation, set-up and training on-site? Folkert:
Well needless to say I was very happy and felt privileged to be part of such an important project. Apart from this, I thought this is an amazing opportunity, to actually see our athletes in person during their press conferences in the German House instead of on T.V.
On the one hand, I was extremely proud and happy to be able to add my own personal contribution to the Winter Olympic Games, representing ISGUS as a partner of the German House, but on the other hand, I felt slightly nervous and had some concerns because a particular part of the system, (the accreditation software) had been bespoke and individually tailored for this event. Experience has shown that the complexities of such a system in another IT environ-ment might show ”teething troubles”, quite a responsibility!
I had about one week to become acquainted with the new software. Also, as a result of the time difference of 9 hours between Schwenningen and Vancouver and with Team 1 already on site in Vancouver we had to implement a night shift in order to quickly eliminate some of the initial problems.
I certainly had mixed feelings. We commenced our extensive tests in November 2009 with the DSM (Deutsche Sport Marketing) Client and the standard ISGUS hardware components and were confident that the ISGUS components were perfect for the task ahead. We were how-ever, concerned about the conditions on site. The wiring plans had already been sent in advance but as these were the first Olympic Games with two German Houses (Vancouver and Whistler), the two sites had to be connected via VPN and we could not be sure if the local engineers had adhered to our specifications.
Lengthy …. unfortunately, we were right! The wiring and the VPN connection were not installed when we arrived. We were placed under a great deal of stress trying to “get to grips” with the situation. We were however, assisted by a local administrator and managed to estab-lish the network and the local VPN connection just on time. The next step, involved the wiring of the terminals and turnstiles, followed by the volunteers training, for the DSM Client.
Can you please describe the access procedure to the German Houses? Folkert:
Did you have any leisure time and were you able to attend some of the thrilling events? Folkert:
Roland, you went to Vancouver to replace Team 1. Did the takeover run smoothly? Roland:
Can you describe your personal tasks on site with Team 2? Roland:
The first step was the accreditation, effected by the volunteers at one of the six counters. There were three types of accreditation: permanent, day or late night accreditation. Following the corresponding authorization assignments via the DSM Client and their transfer to the ACM4001 units, the badge was printed. Finally, access was gained by presenting the badge on an IT400 at one of the turnstiles.
Unfortunately, I could not attend any of the events, as our main priority was to ensure the system was fully operational and to maintain its functionality. Initially throughout the first few days, we had a multitude of queries related to the DSM Client to resolve. The only chance we had to watch the competitions was, to keep an eye on the huge screens in the „Sports bar“. Naturally, we did manage to find some time to look at and admire the wonderful town of Van-couver and of course the Olympic flame.
Oh yes, it went very smoothly but it would have been better if we had included an extra day because in Calgary we missed the connecting flight to Vancouver due to entry regulations and therefore arrived at the German House later than we had originally planned.
Our main priority was to continually ensure that our system remained fully operational at all times. We checked daily the logging report files in our Access Control Manager in order to detect problems at an early stage. The hosts and hostesses from the Deutsche Sport Marketing GmbH were in charge of the accreditation procedure but we also provided assistance and sup-port when necessary. Occasionally the German Federal Police required information and resup-ports about the people entering or leaving the German House. We of course were able to provide the precise information required due to the protocols in the database. At the end of the games, we had to dismantle the equipment in Vancouver and Whistler and prepare it for the return shipment.

Did you like Vancouver, and what was the general atmosphere there? Roland:
Did you meet any celebrities there? Roland:
Did all of these prominent people and athletes have to book in firstly via the ISGUS system in order to get access to the German House?
Roland:
What was your impression on the Winter Olympic Games and what was your feeling when you started your journey back home?
Roland:
In the event that ISGUS would again be in charge of the security in the German House du-ring the next Olympic Games, would you like to take over this job again?
Folkert: Roland:
What improvements would you suggest for the next games? Folkert:
Thank you for the interview.
Vancouver and Whistler are both lovely cities. I would recommend them to everyone, well worth visiting, go and enjoy them. Obviously, the atmosphere was excellent and the people very friendly and amiable. I would compare the atmosphere with the one we had during the Football World Cup 2006 in Germany. Of course and quite naturally, the enthusiasm was at its peak when the Canadian Hockey Team became Olympic Champions!
Of course, daily. On the first day, Wayne Gretzky and Uwe Krupp were in the German House in Vancouver. Amongst others, also Horst Seehofer, Karl Theodor zu Guttenberg, Willi Bogner, Georg Hackl, Katarina Witt and Franziska van Almsick were there.
In Whistler, the biathletes, the alpine ski team, the bob and sledge teams and the cross-country ski team were accommodated.
Yes, there were no exceptions.
Firstly and most importantly, we were all very relieved, proud and very happy that we had “done a good job”. The Olympic Games with its particularly unique and special atmosphere have deeply impressed me. It has been a great experience to be on-site during some of the com-petitions.
Of course I would most definitely be pleased to do this again, in spite of the extremely long working times, there is such a very special atmosphere throughout an event like this.
Definitely, yes.
From the first to the last step, the ISGUS team had prepared extremely well for every-thing. Next time we will take with us our previous experience and confidence gained and will hopefully find more time to attend some of the competitions!
4.157 companies from 68 countries participated at this year's CeBIT in Hanover, the largest IT show throughout Europe. One out of five CeBIT visitors was from outside Germany and all together about 350.000 visitors had been registered.
At the ISGUS booth, the new web based terminal IT 8001 and the IT400 Design Terminals were shown, along with the latest news from the ZEUS world.
Although the exhibition was cut down by one day, more leads were generated than in the pre-vious year and with better quality. With this, CeBIT 2010 delivered confidence that the positive signs from the first quarter of 2010 are indicators for a full recovery of the global economy.

Founded in 1994, Elo SI and ISGUS have established a partnership “par excellence”, initially based on OEM terminal business, but also including ZEUS HR systems, to cater for the vast Elo customer base using SAP.
Commencing with the robust and reliable terminal series 3000 in numerous customer installations, Elo SI followed on with the popular and dependable IT700 / IT800 series and currently have complimented this success with the “state of the art” terminals of the IT8001 generation. Over the years, several hundred ISGUS terminals have been sold through Elo SI from small business through to large and multinational accounts, with installations in Portugal including Madeira and the Azores Islands, Spain, Angola and Mozambique.
®
The first IT700 project in this partnership was , the largest Portuguese private group with interests in industry, retail, real estate and shopping centers, and most recently Elo implemented the first IT8001 project for the Portuguese Railways, - Comboios de Portugal S.A.
The IT8001 was deemed to be “the” product to meet the stringent CP requirement, because the terminals are installed in many sites across the country, and in several cases the network links are very old and communication speed is extremely low. In addition to the IT8001, Elo will also implement Access Control with the new ACM4001 and IT400 VA units in various sites, virtually all being public locations.
The flexibility to manage nearly 20.000 users and the need for proven durability to withstand potential vandalism that public locations such as railway stations can sometimes encounter, were very important aspects in the decision to purchase this combination of web based control-lers (ACM4001) and robust access control hardware (IT400 VA).
Both, Sonae and CP are very important and valued customers and represent major accounts for Elo SI, both using SAP as their ERP system. At CP - the Portuguese Railway, the Elo T&A customi-zed software has been installed, whilst Sonae are using ZEUS HR for direct link of the ISGUS terminals to SAP HR.
The continued success of the long term partnership between Elo SI and ISGUS is apparent with the outstanding solutions offered and the resulting achievements from this joint co-operation. It places both parties in a justifiably strong position with major accounts and ultimately provides proven efficiencies to these organizations. Elo SI and ISGUS GmbH - a success story!
®
With the new web based IT8001 terminal, the series of new ISGUS hardware launches has been started earlier this year. State-of-the-art technology combined with the experience from the feature-rich previous ISGUS terminal generations, ensure that the new terminals combine both, consistency for the existing customers and future orientated concepts.
With the IT8001 for Plant Data Collection, the IT8001-FP for fingerprint identification and verification and the IT7001 terminal, the new terminal generation has been completed to cope from low to high end market segments, including vertical markets.
For access control, the new web based Access Control Manager ACM4001 is available along with the corresponding BUS controllers for direct and remote connection of the IT200 and IT400 access terminals. To complement the current range of access terminals, new vandal-proof IT400 terminals have been designed in different styling, eg. in a round shape.
Obviously the new ISGUS hardware range is fully compatible with the current ZEUS software suite, or can easily be integrated into partner software, due to http/https communication protocol, direct database exchange and a Webservice for realtime processing.

A Reliable ISGUS Partner
The new ISGUS Terminals
-the Next Generation Technology
The long-term ISGUS distribution partner in Portugal, Elo sistemas de
infor-mação, have successfully integrated the new web based terminal
genera-tion IT8001 into their software suite.
From the very first computerized T&A system launched in the 1970's until
today, the ISGUS philosophy has always been to offer complete solutions
including own hard- and software products, ideally complementing each
other and always ensuring compatibility with new terminal series and
soft-ware releases. On the hardsoft-ware side, a new era is commencing with the
launch of a complete new terminal generation.

It was the year, when legal restraints with regard to pharmaceutical products became manda-tory, however the company's growth and business development in the following years was im-pressive. Currently, apo-rot supplies and maintains an impressive base of 500.000 customers and has a market leading position in the mail order pharmacies market accredited in Germany. In 2009 the 550th employee was recruited and apo-rot accomplished a new record with half a million customers. Apart from significant economic growth, the organisation of a constantly increasing team of employees provided a challenge.
“Some months ago we were still operating with time sheets”, says Kornelia Jathe from the HR department and adds: “We employ a considerable number of temporary staff - about 200 and their payroll accounting was previously managed by time sheets. Each employee completed a time sheet with his hours worked. The entries needed to be verified and then input manually into the payroll system”. This procedure was time consuming and allowed considerable margin for error, so a decision was made to implement a Time Management system.
The essential criteria for the supplier of the new system were to integrate the multifunctional badges already in use for access control in various departments.
It is not possible to “contact the doctor for risks and side effects” of a Time Management system but in this case the pharmacists were consulted, as they had already swallowed a “bitter pill” with the first system supplied, which did not fulfil their specification at all. As a result an

diate, decision to purchase and install ZEUS was made. “Following a successful proof of con-cept phase of 60 days, we proved the ISGUS solution as the best medication”, states Detlef Panßner from the ISGUS Vertriebs GmbH in Hamburg.
“Thanks to ZEUS it has become considerably easier to master the increasing number of emplo-yees, especially the part time staff,” says André Prignitz, in charge of staff planning. The part time employees mostly students but also pupils, homemakers and pensioners notify him of their preferred working times via e-mail. The official scheduling for the following month is completed and all personnel are informed via e-mail with their actual assignments. Time sheets in the form of Excel tables are now part of the past. ZEUS distributes schedules depending on the varying workload, e. g. during peak times at the beginning of the week or after holidays more staff is re-quired than during the week.
In peak periods, about 7.000 parcels are dispatched daily. Within a short period of time, ZEUS has proved to be the reliable and solid solution for such a challenging environment.
The employees in the shipping department also feel very happy with the advantages of the Staff Planning solution. They now have maximum working time flexibility, which they feel they could not cope without. “Thanks to this flexibility” says Kornelia Jathe from the HR department, “fluc-tuation is kept within reasonable limits”.
Payroll accounting is made via DATEV Lodas, for which ZEUS provides a certified interface. “We attached great importance to this interface” - emphasizes Kornelia Jathe. It is now possible to have a quick overview of the payroll accounting for all employees with all their different working times. We can have our journals and evaluations at the end of the month or at any time if requi-red and really appreciate this advantage.”
In conclusion, apo-rot now has the most cost effective and efficient solution suited to their high operational business demands.

The impressive story started in the Rothenbaum Chaussee in Hamburg. It is
undoubtedly one of success. Initiated in 2002 by pharmacist Birgit Dumke
and expanded in 2004 in conjunction with her husband and two employees
by founding the mail order pharmacy apo-rot . Their Headquarters are still
located in the Rothenbaum Chaussee, where pharmaceutical expertise,
combined with hanseatic business skill ensures fast economic growth.

Founded in 1957 and with continual success over the years, the company's strength is apparent with its spread across 56 international subsidiaries with an annual turnover of 800 million Euros and 3.000 employees. Thanks to its “top of the range”, quality cable technologies, Lapp Kabel has become one of the leading providers of cables, leads, cable accessories and systems.
“Flexibility and the ability to upgrade are definitely the two most crucial advantages of ZEUS ,” says Helena Ziegler, the Personnel Advisor at Lapp Kabel. Apart from the central software com-prising 1.000 personal records, also 25 terminals for Time & Attendance and approximately a further 40 access terminals are in use in their other locations in Stuttgart, Hanover and Freiberg. At the end of each month, the recorded data is transferred to the “Paisy” payroll software, this maximises considerably process efficiencies and optimisation.
The central system comprises several companies, each company having access to its own data. Thanks to this centralised server solution, the connected subsidiaries also benefit from all up-dates and upgrades, as the complete data processing is made on the central server. As a result, another ISGUS and Lapp Group process optimisation has been achieved with this solution. Apart from Time Management, the individually personalised badges are also used for access control. They are provided with the photograph of the badge holder, the Lapp Group logo and on the reverse the corporate values “Familiar”, “Customer orientated”, “Innovative”, and “Suc-cess oriented”. The badges are printed in-house. The photos are taken via a web cam connected to ZEUS and are then printed on the local printer.
®
®
The badge is also used for canteen data billing. The rewritable chip can be charged with cash points; this enables the badge for use for payment purposes in the Cafeteria. The employer's grant value is also loaded on the badge. All this data is then transferred to the HR department, where the costs are assigned to the employee's account.
Access authorisations are assigned not only for areas, groups and buildings or doors but also in person related mode. Authorisations for special or particular days can be made in advance with date reference. The individual access matrix ensures quick action in the event of a terminal or ser-ver failure by informing the IT responders via e-mail.
Paperless absence management is made via ZEUS WebWorkflow. “This under normal circum-stances would impact enormously on the workload within the HR department and the admini-stration process,” says Helena Ziegler. It does not take much thought to logically establish the amount of paperwork required necessary to manage absence requests for 1.000 employees. With ZEUS , this work is done with a couple of mouse clicks. The requests are made from the employee's own PC via email and the subsequent responses rejection or validation are also sent via e-mail. The results are then transferred to ZEUS . Requests for employees not having their own PC, are handled by supervisors or group leaders.

All in all, Helena Ziegler and the HR team have only laudatory words for ZEUS - ease of use, highly flexible functionalities and excellent support - these are the key points of the ISGUS solution. Thanks to ISGUS Time Management, Access Control and WebWorkflow, it has been possible to achieve the common objective of optimising the processes.

Particular attention was given to the access control reader design installed in the various floors. The integration into the existing switch programs was only one of the requirements. Partially, black acrylic panels were integrated into the marble sidings.
