Two planet combinations

- Written by Sreenadh OG The first thing to know in this section is that these results are part of “results that should be derived considering planets alone”. i.e. It is part of “Planet based result derivation” which is part of 7-fold predic-tion system. Therefore quespredic-tions such as ‘what if the combinapredic-tion is in so and so houses?’, ‘What if if the combination is in so and so houses?’ etc won’t be addressed here, if not the same is mentioned in the sloka itself. With this understanding let us proceed with our study of planet based prediction.

The ancient authentic texts like Skanda hora, Brihat prajaptya, Saunaka hora etc addressed this question in detail - but unluckily we don’t have those texts available now. But some slokas from those texts that deals with the same is available here and there in various texts - but ofcourse the same is not enough to discuss the subject in detail. The oldest text available to us today that deals with 2-planet combinations in detail is Meenaraja hora. Later Saravali and Jataka Saradeepa too quoted the same - while discussing this subject, which provides total authentic nature to these slokas. Considering the vari-ous versions of the same slokas given by these 3 texts (i.e. Meenaraja hora, Saravali, Jataka Saradeepa) we can discuss these slokas in detail. Another good resource is Brihajjataka of Varahamihira, which devotes a whole chapter for discussing 2 planet combinations. Two good commentaries of Brihajjataka vis, Hridyapadha and Vivarana can also help us much in arriving at the meaning and possibilities of these combinations. As we have clearly identified our resources to study and discuss the subject of 2-planet combinations, let us pro-ceed with the same.

Possibly the ancient texts such as Skanda hora was not even avail-able to king Kalyana varma who wrote Saravali in 10th century AD. Possibly it is because of this that he had to refer to many slokas from Yavaneswara hora, Sphujidwaja hora, Meenaraja hora etc. But still

he was of the opinion that these texts contain too much unnecessary information or unwanted phony quotes. That is why when he wrote Saravali he stated that

-“Many great horas are written by the ancient sages. Mihira condensed its essence into a small book called Brihajjataka (I value that book and effort very much). But Brihajjataka alone is not enough to derive result regarding many results related to Yoga, Dasa, Divisions etc. Therefore I am writing this book - i.e. Saravali - brewing the essence of books in Yavana school of astrology and leaving the non-essential”

It is considering this high opinion of Kalyanavarma about Brihajjataka, the text Saravali is given secondary importance only compared to Brihajjataka. Then the same is true for Kalyanavarma regarding Arsha school of astrology and Yavana school of astrology as well. He must have weighted the Arsha school high (based on which Brihajjataka originated) and Yavana school below it (based on which Saravali originated). But in any case these two books and these two schools are mutually complementing. If one school lost some knowledge, the other always helped us to locate the same some how. Therefore without competition, with due respect to proponents of Yavana school we should go through the quotes provided by Meenaraja, accepting the lesson taught by Saravali. It states -ªÉ´ÉxÉÉSÉɪÉê®Âú ´ÉÞrèù®Âú ÊuùOɽþªÉÉäMÉä¹É֪ɱɡò±ÉÆ |ÉÉäHÆò

iÉnù½þ¨É{ɽþɪɨÉiºÉ®ú¨ÉvÉÖxÉÉ ´ÉIªÉä ʴɶÉä¹ÉähÉ**

- ¨ÉÒxÉ®úÉVɽþÉä®úÉ (ºÉÉ®úÉ´ÉʱÉ) [The results that should be attributed to 2-planet combinations is given also by Vridha Yavanacharya, i.e. Meenaraja. Collecting those slokas without any competition (i.e. not considering the results are told by Arsha school of astrology - which I trust most - or by Yavana school of astrology followed by Meenaraja) I am presenting the 2-planet combi-nation results here, giving special importance to the views of Meenaraja] Note that Saravali is written by king Kalyanavarma to

(2)

comple-ment Brihajjataka. Brihajjataka follow the path of Arsha school even though mentions the views of Yavanacharya here and there. Consid-ering this even Saravali should be considered as a text that abides by the path shown by Arsha school itself. Even though Kalyanavarma collects many quotes from Yavanacharyas, if something told by the Yavana school is not in tune with the approach of Arsha school, Kalyanavarma will drop it for sure. This is fact to be remembered throughout while studying the quotes from the authentic book of as-trology called Saravali. It is due to this very reason and systematic approach that the text medieval classic Saravali gained the utmost respect showered on it. Saravali is the most authentic and reliable text of astrology available to us after the period of Mihira and prior to the period of Acharya Balabhadra who wrote Horaratna.

Thus our focal point to study the 2-planet combination is fixed - it is Meenaraja hora as suggested by Saravali and Jataka Saradeepa. Note that even though these quotes are from Meenaraja hora, the approach is part of the fundamental 7-fold result derivation system. Now let us go through the quotes given for various 2-planet combi-nations in all these texts mentioned above.

Su-Mo

When Sun is with Moon it is Amavasi, the new moon day. Moon or mind becomes weak - so if only the soul (Sun) is strong then only that individual can shine in some field. This is a combination that could make the native the most blessed one (no-mind, the enlightened) or weak mind that may mislead by all the worldly pleasures or supersti-tions. The combination itself is a double edged sword - with diametrically opposite possibilities. Let us see what Meenaraja has to say -ªÉÖ´ÉiÉÒxÉÉƴɶÉMɺªÉÉnùÊ´ÉxÉÒiÉ& EÚò]õEÞòÊuù{ÉÖ±ÉÊ´ÉkÉ&

+ɺɴÉÊ´ÉGòªÉEÖò¶É±ÉÉä®ú´ªÉÖbÖ÷{ÉiªÉÉä& ÊGòªÉÉÊxÉ{ÉÖhÉ&**

- ¨ÉÒxÉ®úÉVɽþÉä®úÉ (ºÉÉ®úÉ´ÉʱÉ) [If Sun and Moon are together, then the native would be addicted to women, will not be humble, will do secret things. He would be wealthy

and would be much efficient in doing things. He may even become a liquor seller]

Let us look for the logic behind these derivations - Addicted to, surrendered to, or working under women - caused by the weak and uncontrolled mind. Not humble - because it is Moon that signify sim-plicity and humbleness. Moon is weak means humbleness is lost. Amavasi is darkness, secretive nature, belief in the secret powers gained by black magic or devotion - yes it is Amavasi (the dark side of mind) - unconscious side - becomes the ruling force. If that is clean and consciousness is present there as well - then well and good, if not with a weak mind the dark side taking control over him he is prone to all kinds of superstitions and false beliefs. Here the planet involved is Moon signifying water, and moonlight combined with the illusion cre-ating addictive forces signified by Amavasi. That is why the interest in liquor - a liquid that creates illusions and hallucinations, the addictive liquid. Moon signifies water pots, bottles - filled with acidic liquids, chemical liquids or medicine. So the Su-Mo combination can signify any such bottled items, its production or sale. It can also indicate addiction to such liquids or medicines - consumption of such liquids. He is ‘Koodakrit’, i.e. efficient in creating Yantras. The prime mean-ing of the word Yantra is machine. If so the indicated result is that he would be a mechanic creating, organizing or arranging machine parts. But this word Yantra means the geometrical shapes drawn in gold, silver or copper plates to worship the gods and goddesses as well. When analyzed in combination with the mind after secret and dark forces - this meaning seems to be more appropriate. What however weak his mind would be - his soul and mind are together - Sun and Moon are together. He is not experiencing the split personality - where ever his mind is the soul, the consciousness too is there. His inner voice and mind are together they are not separate. This is positive -a qu-ality th-at helps him to excel in -any work he indulges. Too m-any thoughts never disturb him - sleep is like death, and enjoyments acidic. That is why the derivation - he will excel in work. Because he is not

(3)

much disturbed by the thoughts of past and future, or of the plans. He is don’t think much - but usually like the animal which forgot to think, and because of an alert consciousness.

Rule 1: While considering the 2-planet combinations, the re-sults are derived by mixing the significance of both the planets under consideration. No other factors should be considered.

Now let us see what Mihira has to say about this combination. ÊiÉM¨ÉÉƶÉÖVÉÇxɪÉiªÉÖ¹Éä¶ÉºÉʽþiÉÉä ªÉxjÉɶ¨ÉEòÉ®Æú xÉ®Æú**

- ¤ÉÞ½þVVÉÉiÉEÆò [If the Sun is with Moon, the native would a person constructs ‘Yantra’ and ‘black rock structures’]

The prime meaning of the word ‘Yantra’ is ‘machine’. There could be hundreds of people who took birth in Amavasi (Sun and Moon together) with this combination in their chart. All of them neither be-come a mechanic nor does they all have to work with stone or gravel. In my many years of experience as an astrologer I never saw this happening. Also note that Sun and Moon does not have anything to do with stones or machine. Actually Saturn is the significator of stones, stone structures. The significator of machines could be Saturn or Mars. Thus the question arises what is the actual or intended meaning of this sloka - for sure it is not about Machine and rock structures. Let us go a bit more deep into this sloka bit.

As per the commentary of Brihat Jataka called ‘Vivarana’ by Uzhutra Varyar, the meaning of these words are as follows

-ªÉxjÉÉÊhÉ º´ÉκiÉEò ´ÉκiÉ xÉäjÉÉÊnù¦Éä¹ÉVÉ-ªÉxjÉÉÊhÉ, º´ÉªÉÆ´ÉɽþEò ¶ÉRÂóC´ÉÉnùÒÊxÉ EòɱÉ-ªÉxjÉÉÊhÉ, iÉÖ±ÉÉPÉ]õÒ¨ÉÖJÉÉnùÒÊxÉ VɱÉÉärù®úhɪÉxjÉÉÊhÉ, ºÉɨÉÉxªÉäxÉ EòɪÉÉæ{ÉEò®úhÉÉÊxÉ ªÉxjÉÉÊhÉ, iÉlÉÉ +¶¨ÉÒÊxÉ EÞò¹hÉʶɱÉÉnùÒÊxÉ*

- Ê´É´É®úhÉÆ [‘Yantra’ or Instruments means - Instruments or equipments used for operation or treatment i.e. medical equipments or instruments used measuring time such as watch etc, or various instruments or machines

that are used to pump water etc. In general ‘Yantra’ means instruments, equipments or machines that are used for various purposes]

Here too the commentator is taking ‘Yantra’ primarily to mean ‘machine’ in various circumstances. But I am not satisfied with it - due to the reasons stated above.

Earlier as per Meenaraja’s words we already noted that the native with this combination, would be much interested in secret disciplines and dark forces, he might become interested in magic, tantric worship and idol worship. The word Yantra also means the geometrical shapes drawn in gold, silver or copper plates to worship the gods and god-desses etc. If would be more apt if we take the sloka of Mihira as re-stating the results told by Meenaraja - i.e. The native would be much interested in creating geometrical shapes drawn in gold, silver or cop-per plates to worship the gods and goddesses and the study of the same.

Now coming to the word stone structures - stone is imperishable and of course the combination points to the constructive nature of the native. He is constructive and makes things more organized and sys-tematic. His creations will with stand the tides of time - he is after making permanent monuments with his creative force which could defy time. Note that both Sun and Moon indicate time - and are the prime planets considered for Calendar calculations. The statement ‘he would be interested in creating sculptures’ - does not mean that he would be doing a low paid low caste job - but instead points to his creative abilities in systematizing and organizing persistent structures. Thus I would translate the Mihira’s words as - “If the Sun is with Moon, the native would be much interested in creating geometrical shapes drawn in gold, silver or copper plates to worship the gods and goddesses. As an individual with much creative, constructive, sys-tematizing, organizing abilities he will try to create persistent struc-tures which could withstand the turbulent flow of time”. I think this meaning is more in tune with the words of Meenaraja and reflect the

(4)

reality in a better way. Interest in Yantra and black stone structures -is just another creative search after the secrets - it -is not that the native is interested in machines, metals and hard work - but it should be understood that the native is just after the secrets of life - what ever field it be. Every machine hides a secret and so as every creation – thus actually the native is not at all interested in hard work, even though he is much dedicated to the work he indulges.

Many scholars seems to have just reflected the words of Mihira without much thought. For example, look at the quote provided in Jatakabharana (of Dundi raja) for this combination.

{ÉɹÉÉhɪÉxjÉGòªÉÊ´ÉGòªÉä¹ÉÖ EÚò]õÊGòªÉɪÉÉÆ ʽþ Ê´ÉSÉIÉhÉ& ºªÉɱÉ EòɨÉÒ |ÉEòɨÉÒ {ÉÖ¯û¹ÉººÉMÉ´ÉÇ& ºÉ½þÉè¹ÉvÉÒ¶ÉäxÉ ®ú´ÉÉè ºÉ¨ÉäiÉä**

- VÉÉiÉEòɦɮúhÉÆ [If Moon is with Sun, the native will do business related to rock, ma-chines etc. He will be efficient in casting iron or rock sculptures and will have high sexual urge and ego]

Of course as you could expect, only very rarely such predictions (which come out only from grammatical mastery over Sanskrit lan-guage) fructify. And naturally enough being a practical knowledge branch, the results that does not truly fructify gets discarded or given less importance only in the course of time, by practical astrologers. It is due to this very fact, usually it is advised to learn astrology directly from a astrologer guru who really practice astrology, and not from a mere scholar who could see only word meanings, and will start con-fusing the followers because - usually the same word can have mul-tiple meanings and possibilities. In the absence of practice and direct experience the Sanskrit scholar would be in dark, wondering what is the true meaning of the sloka, and in an effort to hide his ignorance -he will attribute all t-he possibilities for that sloka - making it not only complex but also useless!

Earlier we have seen that the 2-planet combination derives its re-sults by mixing the significance assigned to both the planets under

consideration. This helps us to formulate the next rule.

Rule 2: The various results ascribed to 2-planet combinations in various books should be taken only as examples which shows us how to do the same.

This is important - this means that out of the hundreds of results we can derive from a 2-planet combination, the books or available quotes just provide us one or two possible results - just to show how to do the same! What about the rest of the possibilities and signifi-cance? Yes, we have to combine them and arrive at sensible results that fits in well with reality observed. Can we show some more ex-amples that achieves the same for this Sun-Moon combination itself? Let us try

-* Sun signifies father and Moon mother. In the presents of Sun, Moon loses its power. Thus in the native’s family and life, the Father would be the major influence and role model than the mother.

* Sun signify Siva and Moon Sakti. Thus the combination can signify the Siva-Sakti, the male-female combination, the Yin-Yang. While considering gods or devatas this combination indicate ‘Ardha Nareeswara’ (Half Siva half Parvati idol).

* Sun is Siva and Moon is the sea shell. Thus the combination signify the presence of sea shell used to worship Siva for pouring water into the head of Siva idol in hindu temples.

* Sun is fire and Moon is water. Thus the combination can signify any watery chemical with a burning nature - for example bottled ac-ids.

* Sun signify square and Moon circle. Thus the combination can signify the interest in various geometrical shapes like the octagon or the like.

I hope you will come out with more such derivations - which re-flect the truth and will show the actual results which are true in

(5)

expe-rience as well when applied to horoscopes.

Even though we came up to this much understanding about this combination this seems to be scarcely enough to be useful in real life result derivation in horoscope to convincingly argue that we know enough basic rules related to 2-planet combinations and to derive enough results that reflect actual experience. There must be some more rules hiding from view that must help us in result derivation re-lated to planet base - simple combining of significance will not suffice the real purpose. The common truth is that - what ever looks so simple at initial look - may not be so simple as it may seem to be - when we approach it, and dedicate ourselves to understanding the truths be-hind. With this understanding, let is look for some more possibilities. Kalapurusha and Planets

Moon is the lord of 4th house Kalapurusha chart, and Sun is of 5th house. Definitely the conjunction of Sun and Moon should cause the Rajayoga known as Kendra-Trikonadhipa yoga, since 4th is a Kendra and 5th a Trikona. Thus this combination is sure to bestow some good results in both Sun dasa and Moon dasa as per the rules put forward by Parasara. Laghu Parasari states

-EäòxpùÊjÉEòÉähÉÉÊvÉ{ÉiɪÉÉä®èúCªÉiÉÉä ªÉÉäMÉEòÉ®úEòÉè**

- ±ÉPÉÖ {É®úɶÉÊ®ú [If the lord of a Kendra and a Trikona are together, it will produce a Rajayoga. (The results of which will come into play in their respective Vimsottari Dasas)]

Usually the Raja yogas are supposed to provide good results such as power, authority, wealth, good social status, good family life, ve-hicles, intelligence and success in many fields and endeavors. Help from all quarters should come and popularity should be easy to gain. Does the actual experience reflect this - the example charts should help us to verify this. But an important rule regarding 2-planet combi-nations surface here.

Rule 3: Considering the Kalapurusha chart and related houses,

the possible house lord combinations and the related results should be derived and attributed to every 2-planet combination. This is a fundamental rule and approach we cannot fail to con-sider, not only regarding this combination but also for all the other 2-planet combinations that we may study.

Dasa results and 2-planet combinations

Dasa results are some thing which usually consider and combine significance of various planets for primary result derivation. If it is so, if the same rule of combining significance applies to 2-planet combi-nations as well, then for sure, the dasa results predicted for Sun Dasa Moon Antara and Moon Dasa Sun Antara should provided us some possible results that we can apply to Su-Mo combination as well. Thus the rule

-Rule 4: Dasa-Antara results can be applied to 2-planet combi-nations and vice versa, since both of them depend on combining of significance for primary result derivation.

Let us see what results this approach can provide us with. Let us see what Horaratna has to

say-Ê®ú{ÉÖVɪɶSÉ vÉxɺªÉ ºÉ¨ÉÉMɍɯ º´ÉVÉxɺÉÆRÂóMÉÊiɨÉRóMÉÊxÉ®úÉäMÉiÉɨÉ ʴÉiÉxÉÖiÉä ¶É֦ɨÉRóMɦÉÞiÉɨɺÉÉè ®úÊ´Énù¶ÉÉxiÉ®úMÉÉ ¶ÉʶÉxÉÉä nù¶ÉÉ**

(6)

Note that as if in a Rajayoga only good results are given above. Sun and Moon are friends to each other and so naturally considering their significance deriving positive results alone can be expected and that is what we see in the above quotes. Thus a rule to remember is -Rule 5: The mutual friendship or enmity of the planets should be considered in deriving the results for 2-planet combinations. Thus naturally we will see that Su-Mo combination should give many good results. But for sure you know that it is not merely the good results that this combination indicates. This is one of the dreaded combinations causing many bad results also for sure. Why? And what are those bad results? Let us look at some possibilities

-Sun a malefic with weak Moon another malefic

Sun is malefic and should generally indicate many bad results. Simi-larly a weak Moon is also considered as malefic and should indicate many bad results. Strength of Moon depends much on Pakshabala, and a weak Moon (Moon with less Pakshabala or Moon near to Amavasi) is considered weak. Skanda hora states that

-<xnÖù& EÞò¹hÉSÉiÉÖqÇù¶ªÉÉÆ IÉÒhÉÉä ¦É´ÉÊiÉ xÉÉxªÉnùÉ +lÉ ªÉÉ´ÉiÉ EÖò½ÖþºiÉÉ´ÉiÉ ºÉ¨Éä IÉÒhÉiÉ®úÉä ¨ÉiÉ&**

- ºEòxnù½þÉä®úÉ (¾þt{ÉlÉÉ) [Moon of Krishna Chaturdasi (14th Tithi in black fortnight) should be considered as weak. After that (the Moon in Krishna Chaturdasi and Amavasi) till the till the Kuhu lasts (Till the Amavasi lasts, i.e. till the Suklapaksha Pradhama begins) Moon is considered very weak]

This is the weak Moon that is especially considered as malefic. Mihira states that ‘the weak Moon should be treated as a malefic’. If that is not enough, see the most authentic quote from the astrology Upanishad Skanda hora (Jyotishmati Upanishad) itself.

IɪÉä ºÉÉä¨ÉºªÉ ºÉ´É溪ÉÖ¤ÉÇʱÉxÉÉäÊ{É ¤É±ÉSªÉÖiÉÉ iɺªÉ IÉÒhÉi´É¨Éä´ÉÉiÉiÉ {ÉÉ{Éi´Éä {ɪÉǴɺªÉÊiÉ**

- ºEòxnù½þÉä®úÉ (¾þt{ÉlÉÉ)

[If Moon is waning (and is near to Amavasi) then, even if it is strong in other ways, it should be considered as weak. This weakness when reaches its culmination (in Krishna Chaturdasi and Amavasi) Moon becomes malefic]

Thus clearly in most cases when Sun and Moon are together we have clear combination of two malefics. What are the results that should be attributed to this combination? Do we have any quotes available? Yes, for sure we have. While dealing with Sun Dasa Moon Antara results Parasara states

-IÉÒhÉä ´ÉÉ {ÉÉ{ɺÉƪÉÖHäò nùÉ®ú{ÉÖjÉÉÊnù{ÉÒb÷xÉÆ ´Éè¹É¨ªÉÆ VÉxɺÉÆ´ÉÉnÆù ¦ÉÞiªÉ´ÉMÉÇÊ´ÉxÉɶÉxɨÉÂ** Ê´É®úÉävÉÆ ®úÉVÉEò±É½Æþ vÉxÉvÉÉxªÉ{ɶÉÖIɪÉÆ*

- {É®úɶɮú ½þÉä®úÉ [In Sun’s dasa and Moon’s antara, then distress to wife and children, failures in ventures, disputes with others, loss of servants, antagonism with the king (government) and destructions of wealth and grains will be the effects if the Moon is weak and is associated with a malefic (for sure Sun is a malefic)]

Note that all the results derived here are inauspicious, and is dia-metrically opposite to the good results mentioned till now! How can the same combination give both good and bad results - that to dia-metrically opposite results?! Yes, it is possible and that itself is the uniqueness of this Su-Mo combination - it can raise the native or destroy him all together. In several instances you may find only good results if there is sufficient distance (less proximity) between Sun and Moon, and many bad results will surface if they are very close by -i.e. if it is Krishna Chaturdasi or Amavasi.

Proximity and 2-planet combinations

As clear from the above results proximity of planets is something that should be considered while deriving results related to 2-planet combinations. As per ancient indian astrology, considering proximity is synonymous with considering divisions (vargas) in result derivation.

(7)

In the case of Moon this could be the Tithi as well. Here we don’t want to consider divisions (which in itself is another big subject), but as far as Su-Mo combination is concerned it becomes clear that the results varies much based on the Tithi in which the birth took place (i.e. based on the distance between Sun and Moon).

Rule 7: Proximity of planets should be considered while deriv-ing results related to 2-planet combinations.

Even if Sun and Moon are in the same sign, the tithi could be Krishna Dwadasi (12th), Krishna Trayodasi (13th), Krishna Chaturdasi (14th), Amavasi (15th), Sukla Pradhama (1st), Sukla Dwiteeya (2nd) or Sukla Triteeya (3rd). It is also possible that the birth took place in Amavasi but Sun and Moon are in different signs. The inauspicious results predicted for Su-Mo combination apply es-pecially when Sun and Moon are in the same sign, and is very close by. The auspicious results predicted for Su-Mo combination apply especially when Sun and Moon are in the same sign, but not much close by. Divisions and Tithi and Nityayoga could be of much help in determining the proximity of Sun and Moon and changing the deriva-tions accordingly. Elaborating all the possible results related to such combinations is a tedious task. But some points of special importance should be noted here.

If tithi is not in Krishna Chaturdasi, Amavasi or Suklapaksha Pradhama a bit weightage could be given to the auspicious results. But it is Amavasi definably the following results apply.

+¨ÉɪÉÉÆ iÉÖ xÉ®úÉä VÉÉiÉ <ÎxpùªÉÉÌiÉMÉiÉ& ºÉÖJÉÒ ºÉÖ¦ÉMÉÉä ¤É±É½þÒxɶSÉ Ê´ÉkÉäxÉ ¤É½ÖþxÉÉ(+É)EÖò±É&**

- VÉÉiÉEòºÉÉ®únùÒ{É& [If the birth takes place in Amavasi, the native would be addicted to sexual pleasures, would be after the pleasures and happiness of life. He would be sexually capable (handsome), weak, and would be much troubled by scarcity or need for money and wealth]

[Let me ask a cute question here - Is it that Pournami (Full Moon day) always gives good results? I don’t think so. A malefic in 7th from moon should indicate several bad results as well - right? Look into it - and come out with new insights]

Another important result to be noted is that if the birth took place in Suklapaksha Pradhama, the chance of immature death is high. Look at the following quote

-|ÉÊiÉ{ÉÊqù´ÉºÉä VÉÉiÉκjÉÊnùxÉÆ SÉ jɨÉɺÉEÆò VÉÒÊ´ÉiÉ& ºÉxÉ ¨É½þÉiÉäVÉÉ ´É¹ÉǶÉÒÊiÉÊSÉ®úɪÉÖ¹É&

- VÉÉiÉEòºÉÉ®únùÒ{É& [If the birth took place in Suklapaksha Pradhama, the native may be alive for 3 days or 3 months only. But if this period is covered without worries then he will have a long life ahead possibly even upto 100 years]

Rule 8: Tithi and Nityayoga is of special importance and should be considered while deriving results based on Su-Mo combina-tion.

In any case it should be noted that a birth that took place when Sun and Moon are together (i.e. when Moon is weak) indicate, many diseases and health problems in childhood. Also note that Moon is the natural significator (nisargika karaka) for childhood.

Rule 9: The natural significance of the planets and the period they signify could be considered for deriving or attributing results related to specific periods of life - if any such results are indicated by the 2-planet combination under consideration.

I request the learners to dive deep into this subject of Sun-Moon proximity and come up with more valuable observations and derivations.

Other considerations and possibilities

Sage Vasishta tells us that Su-Mo combination can indicate ‘Pov-erty’ and Vasanta raja tells us that this combination can indicate ‘fear

(8)

from government or authority’. What do you think the logic behind these derivations could be?

For the native to run after money and to gather it much - the mind should be strong, ego should be high, and weakness controlled. But this is not the case when Sun and Moon are together - Moon is weak means mind is weak, bad habits and weaknesses high. If Sun is strong in such a chart then the native becomes uninterested in money, even though he would be highly creative, would excel in mathematics sci-ence and every search after the unknown. He would be dedicated, would be after the secrets and occult behind everything - but still uninterested in money. Thus naturally in both cases - the money prob-lems are sure to happen.

Ramakrishna Paramahamsa had Sun and Moon together in a single sign (Suklapaksha Dwiteeya) - and you can refer to other horoscopes with similar combination to verify these results.

Sun is the significator of government or authority, and that sun is afflicting the Moon (i.e. the native himself) in the above combination, and definitely fear is associated with the mind, i.e. Moon- that is why the derivation ‘fear from government or authority’.

Rule 10: If some special results are attributed by some sages to any 2-planet combinations, such derivations should be given special importance - because they will actualize for sure. Houses - can they affect 2-planet combinations?

Actually similar to placement of planet in every house, causes varia-tion in results, 2 planet combinavaria-tions in various house, 3 planet com-binations in various houses etc are important and dealt within some texts. For sure the result produced by one particular 2-planet combi-nation in Lagna and any other house - vary, and is defenitly important. But since we are trying to consider ‘Planet Base’ result derivation alone here and want to avoid touching signs or houses - such varia-tions or modification to the results won’t be dealt within here.

Conclusion

If there is Su-Mo combination in a chart the following results can be predicted in general.

* When Sun is with Moon, the mind becomes weak - so if only the soul (Sun) is strong then only that individual can shine in some field. This is a combination that could make the native the most blessed one (no-mind, the enlightened) or weak mind that may mislead by all the worldly pleasures or superstitions. The combination itself is a double edged sword - with diametrically opposite possibilities.

* If Sun and Moon are together, then the native would be ad-dicted to women, will not be humble, will do secret things. He would be wealthy and would be much efficient in doing things. He may even become a liquor seller.

* The native with this combination, would be much interested in secret disciplines and dark forces, he might become interested in magic, tantric worship and idol worship.
