Head Coach/Executive Manager Role

I have stepped away from the full-time coaching for this season to allow more time to commit toward the full team

development. You will see me helping with coaching in several roles, but not everyday with the same group as I seek ways to bring the team together, streamline our processes and build the team toward higher standards. I aim to get to know everyone a little more intimately and to serve you all as your guide in navigating your swimming experience.

I am normally your primary contact when it comes to questions regarding team issues. However most questions should be directed toward your swimmer’s coach you are always welcome to include me on your correspondence. Here are some specific items I am available for:

◦ Swimmer Career Planning

◦ Coach Concerns

◦ Event Questions (if not specific to your group)

PREPARATION PROGRAMS

The prep programs are established to provide participation in the sport of swimming with fitness and

skill development toward outside USA Swimming objectives.

Home School – Provides a physical education opportunity using swimming as the primary focus.

Swimmers of varying levels gain from their time and do have the option to join the USA Swimming

portion with Occoquan Swimming if desired.

IMR Light – As a bridge from lessons to prepare for a transition into the swim team or to be used as a

supplemental program for kids that are participating in other sports but want the fitness and skill

development of swimming without the competitive aspect.

High School Preparation – provides non-year round USA Swimmers with the opportunity to prepare for

their upcoming high school season in developing skills and fitness toward being ready for try outs for

their school team.

(17)

COVID-19 MITIGATION PROCESS

◦ Health Assessment

◦ Done at home, please verbally ask your child EVERYDAY how they are feeling to ensure they aren’t coming down with anything. ◦ Temperature Check at Entry to any facility

◦ Swimmer & Staff Check In

◦ All Swimmers and Staff must enter with a face covering and keep on until 10+ feet can be maintained ◦ ID Swipe

◦ Will indicate you understand the risks of entering the facility

◦ Will acknowledge that you do not have any unexplained symptoms that may be related to COVID-19

◦ Attendance is taken everyday

◦ Parents are not allowed into the facility except emergency reasons.

◦ Be prepared to drop off at the front entrance and then pick up immediately following practice

(18)

COVID-19 MITIGATION PROCESS

◦ Positive Test Policy

• An alert email will be sent out to staff, OCCS members and other patrons of the pool that may have been exposed to the positive test person (names will not be used). All swimmers at the impacted facility will be out of the water for up to 24 hours after a positive test has been reported to accommodate facility clearing, cleaning and disinfection.

• Swimmers in the group and coaches in the group that have been in direct contact with the positive test person will be asked to submit to a COVID 19 test and remain away from the facility until a negative test result is provided to staff or 14 days have passed whichever is done first.

• Direct Contact = sharing a lane or conjoining lane, any unmasked exposure passing, etc. Swimmers in the same group may not be directly impacted if the staff has done a good job of recording the contract tracing. However due to the limitations of sharing medical information (i.e. names) we are a restricted to enforcing the testing, etc. to all swimmers and staff of a particular group.

• Members and staff will be advised to follow the recommendations of their family physician or medical professional.

• If one facility or practice group shuts down, swimmers from that practice group or facility are not permitted to go to any other OCCS facility until after 14 days of isolation or a negative test result is provided.

(19)

COVID-19 Shut Down Policy

As we experienced in the spring of 2020, the local, state and federal leaders may demand that a business such as a swim team, fitness center, swim instruction and other ‘non-essential’ businesses be required to close to mitigate continual outbreaks of the virus. For the upcoming swimming year, if this happens, Occoquan Swimming is prepared to offer a discount credit back to your account using the following policies:

1) There is no discount should any facility close or you or your swimmer be required to quarantine or become ill for less than 15 days.

2) If a facility is forced to close and no suitable replacement option is provided for over 15 consecutive days or if your swimmer becomes ill or is required to quarantine/recover for more than 15 consecutive days a refund-credit will be placed on your account based on the group and number of practices canceled/missed after the initial 14 days due to the COVID-19 virus:

◦ IMR light $6 ◦ IMR prep $8 ◦ IMR $8 ◦ IMRplus $9 ◦ IMX $9.50 ◦ Pre-Sr $10 ◦ NTG $12 ◦ Home Fit $6 ◦ Day IMRprep $8 ◦ Day IMR $8 ◦ Day IMR+ $9 ◦ Day IMX $10

*If your swimmer is confirmed to be COVID-19 positive and they are not able to participate for this reason you must provide documentation of the illness as well as the Dr. letter clearing the swimmer to return to swim.

Contracts are not canceled due to COVID-19 only credits will be provided for future missed practice opportunities thus there may be additional payments due on the contract if you were paying by installments for the swimming year. By clicking this agreement and submitting this registration you agree to this policy and are committed to paying the required payments that you agreed to during registration.

Practices 2020-2021

Occoquan Swimming takes pride in the fact that we can offer more practice time and more

consistency than any other team in the area. We are committed to finding creative ways to provide a

consistent level of training through adapting to any challenges that come to us.

Chinn & Colgan High School are working on getting back open for us, so in the meantime we have Lake

Ridge Swim Club and Montclair Country Club available to us. We are confident that things will be

worked out with them to provide the planned practices for the upcoming season but may be adjusted

similar to Freedom & WARF

Freedom & WARF have adjusted the pool space available so we have an adjusted practice plan that

will run through December.

Dryland we originally planned to offer everything virtual, however we are working on some options for

in person dryland done outside.

December Hybrid Meet

OCCS is governed by USA Swimming nationally and Potomac Valley Swimming locally. We are held to their expectations and requirements when it comes to being able to offer ‘normal’ competitions. Add in the CDC, State and Local requirements for COVID-19 mitigation efforts and there is just too much unknown for what the fall will bring. So our planning is currently based on the current rules (however as always we will adjust along the way).

◦ Our December meet is planned to be held over four days (Friday-Monday)

December 11-14 and we are working on two teams to join us for a championship style meet.

◦ All events will be offered

◦ Timed finals competition for 10 & unders

◦ Prelims/Finals competition for 11 & over

◦ Prelims will be swum in morning at separate pools

◦ Finals will be swum at night in one pool (swimmers will come together and top 16 swimmers will compete at night)

(36)

January –

March

Again, lots to consider when things will get back to

somewhat of a normal competition plan, but here is what we would plan if the Pandemic is rectified by January. If not, we’ll adjust and try to offer something similar in smaller virtual meets.

Sectionals, junior nationals and Elite Age Group

showcase meets are still being considered as well.

(38)

2020 BACK2SWIM A THON

We don’t have control over a lot of things, however as long as our pools allow us to swim, we should have a great connection with getting back into the swim of things and creating a culture of hard work, commitment and determination.

The normal swim a thon efforts would go toward a day of swimming up to 200 lengths and raising money based on the laps swum or dentations. This year, we are going to use practices, meets and more to provide a score toward achievement. There are six categories we will be using to score the process. Choose one or all of them to focus on and get sponsors to help your process. More details will be shared next week.

Advertising

During the Pandemic we all took a hit in shutting

our doors and cooperating to ‘flatten the curve’.

As we all make adjustments and seek ways to

catch up from the shut down as well as ensure

longevity in our business, OCCS wants to work with

you. Get access to over 400 active families that all

need doctors, dentists, accountants, car repair,

Christmas presents, etc.

As a member of OCCS you can use the solicitation

of advertisers to offset your family's tuition. Up to

25% of paid advertising revenue will be credited

back to your family account.

Sponsoring OCCS can be a tax deduction.

If you own a business or frequent a great place

you’d like to share with others on OCCS, please

watch for the sponsorship details soon.
