Changes
2008 State 4‐H Photography Guidelines
Below are some highlights of changes to the 2007‐2008 Texas 4‐H Photography Rules and Guidelines. It is imperative that you read these rules as major changes to the divisions and classes have occurred. Here is a brief summary of some changes: • Color and Color Digital are now COLOR. • Story Board Division has been deleted for 2007‐2008. • A color class has been added to the Architectural Element division. • The theme for 2007‐2008 will be “Flags”. As with past years, the deadline for both having entries on 4‐H CONNECT and the photographs postmarked is April 15, 2008. In addition to the rules and guidelines, we have attached the photography label in pdf format that can be filled out and printed. Both resource pieces will be posted on the Texas 4‐H and Youth Development website at http://texas4‐h.tamu.edu.
2008 Share‐The‐Fun Guidelines
Please review the following information regarding the 2008 State Share‐The‐Fun Contest. Several changes have been made for this year which were all based on past participation, input from participants, agents and volunteers, and more. We hope that you will find the 2008 Contest Changes a positive thing! Summary of Changes: • The contest will now offer five (5) contest categories: o Poetry/Prose o Vocal o Musical/Band o Choreographed Routine o Celebrate 4‐H • The first and second place entries from each category at District will qualify for State 4‐H Roundup. In the past, only the first place entry from each category at District could advance to State. This change means that there could be a maximum of 24 entries in each of the five categories at State.• The first and second place entries in each category from District who qualify for State may come from the same county. This rule is consistent with other State Roundup contests (except Food Show and Fashion Show). This means counties may enter as many entries in the District Contest as they wish. • Below is the schedule for the Share‐The‐Fun Contest broken out over 2 days: Wednesday, June 11, 2008 7:00 ‐8:00 a.m. Vocal, Poetry/Prose, and Choreographed Routines will unload props 8:00 a.m. Orientation for Vocal, Poetry/Prose and Choreographed Routines in Rudder Theater 9:00 a.m. Judging begins in Rudder Theater for Choreographed Routines followed by Vocal Judging begins in the Rudder Forum Room for Poetry/Prose 2:00 p.m. Musical/Band and Celebrate 4‐H will unload props 4:00 p.m. Orientation for Musical/Band and Celebrate 4‐H in the Rudder Forum Room Thursday, June 12, 2008 8:00 a.m. Judging begins in Rudder Theater for Celebrate 4‐H Judging begins in Rudder Forum Room for Musical Band 3:00 p.m. Awards Program in Rudder Theater for all categories • 4‐H members may only compete in ONE Share‐The‐Fun Category each year even though the contest will be broken out over 2 days.

Banquet
The annual 4‐H Gold Star Banquet is the highlight of the 4‐H year and we hope that you will join us.
The ceremony will take place at Fremauxʹs Metropolitan Catering on Thursday, August 23, 2007 at 7:00 p.m.
We have requested a short extension from our caterer. If you missed the registration deadline you may
still turn in a RSVP this week (August 6‐10th), along with $15.00 each. Please make checks payable to the
ʺDenton 4‐H Fund.ʺ Extra meals will not be ordered so be sure to RSVP today.
We suggest that everyone arrive no later than 6:45 p.m. as the festivities will begin promptly at 7:00
p.m. Sunday attire is appropriate for girls and boys are asked to wear ties. If you have any questions
concerning the banquet, please contact the 4‐H Office at 940.349.2884. We are looking forward to seeing you
ʺunder the sea.ʺ
Final
Thoughts
So much to do and so little time to do it in. I have included the stock show updates that I received last
week at State TAE4HA conference, in very brief form. You will need to visit each show’s website to get the
specifics. Hopefully your club managers have shared the Major Show lamb/goat tag orders with you by now.
That information is due to the 4‐H Office ASAP. Please get with your club manager soon to place those orders.
You will see several approaching deadlines – clubs need to have their charters and club manager
nominations in the 4‐H Office by Thursday, August 9th. There is a mandatory Club Manager training on
the16th and 4‐H Office training on the 19th. There are several opportunities for your clubs to promote the 4‐H
program at either the North Texas State Fair or at the Gardening InfoFest.
Remember that we are now in the centennial year for 4‐H. You will see various marketing pieces rolled
out throughout the year. Keep an eye out for information regarding ways your 4‐H club can help celebrate 100
years of 4‐H in Texas.
Don’t’ for get Denton County’s own efforts to celebrate the centennial.
It isn’t too late to find sponsors or donate to our “100 for 100” efforts.
This fundraiser will net the program close to $10,000 if we reach the
minimum goal of 100 donors. We are just asking for one donor per 4‐H
member – it may seem small, but if every 4‐H member only got a $25
donation that would still be over $6,000!
I will still be in and out of the office until late August. If you need anything you can speak with Ms.
Johnson or send me an e‐mail. I hope you have each had a great summer and I can’t believe that is it almost
gone!
Best Wishes
