Tell us what you know about what NWTC is

doing for student success?

• I'm aware that NWTC has some efforts going.

• Lacking in mental health training especially pharmacology, creating a high ethical standard was very good.

• Star program ...really nice to track progress, instructors supportive, and always there, academic counselors.

• Tons of help, nursing coach , instructors willing to help.

• Staying up to date on ways to enhance learning, improving science and nursing labs, tutors, library assistance, academic coaches.

• Helping , very well ...care, 100 percent nurturing

• Really hard and tough at first ..prepare you for the clinical in real world, skills charts...correct technique guide in work.

• A lot of opportunities for students to get help and full understanding.

• Clinical settings for real life situations...preparing hands on really great way to transition to job.

• Noticed we started offering flexible class option, and J session.

• Tutoring really helped.

• Lots of clinical experience.

• Helped with NCLEX exam.

• The instructors are great, every nursing instructor concerned about success of students, really involved - in students.

• Hands on teaching methods.

• Extra tutoring classes ...group tutoring ...any and all hands on activities, simulations.

• Professors were fantastic, hands on , clinical setting helpful, they cared more ...better than other schools.

(53)

Tell us what you know about what NWTC is

doing for student success?

• Advanced classes practice calling doctors, NWTC was very hands on ..clinicals really prepped students, all good instructors.

• As a bridge student missed out...not same clinical experience that other student got. Took boards and failed. Focused more on Med Surg than what is really on the boards, no community help.

• The instructors we choose were up to date on patient care and safety, definitely prepared for boards.

• Faculty, tutors, instructors willing to help, when you have a question they are there.

• Really challenged students to high standards, NWTC students outshine all other local ADN college students.

• Utilizing clinicals , hands on experience, caring for patients helped us learn.

• Instructors are really good ...pass the boards with extra tests.

• instructors, hand on experience, informative.

• If I knew then Very wide variety experience and fantastic what I know now, I would have gone to Rasmussen.

• Faculty very helpful, go out of way for you.

• Don't know-more helpful to find placement, preparing for interviewing NWTC was very helpful with that part..but placement could of been better, really wish more communicating and practice for help with physicians, in clinicals we didn’t do that, writing in the charts should of had more practice also.

• Instructors were awesome, coaching, study guide.

• I had a hard time ...failed a couple times, wasn't enough extra help, not very caring.

• Tutoring service, mock interview and resume.

• Always had tutors, teachers were always available, practice lab hours, needed extra help someone was there.

(54)

Tell us what you know about what NWTC is

doing for student success?

• Counselors always helpful. Nursing Coach and teachers were very good at being available.

• 2nd year clinical difficult, should of been smaller class size.

• Clinical really prepared you for real world, critical thinking pathways.

• Excellent prof and instructors.

• People in lab to help.

• Email reminders, certain instructors , push to think harder.

• Million and a half different programs to keep nurses doing well in program.

• Tutor

• Remodeled lab - instructors were available to help esp. cha classes.

• Provided nursing coach , newly educated instructors, with open door policies, ATI , Debbie, who would help you study.

• Ati program helped a lot , for boards, practice exams, over all exam.

• Overall really try to pass all their students...so many options for help , strive to get all student through program.

• Most of the adjunct instructors are in the field and update on practices, clinicals ...lots of opportunities to see and practice different aspects of nursing , great reputation with hospitals.

• Awesome instructors

• The nursing instructors are TERRIFIC! They really prepare you for what real world nursing is. There have been many times that I reflect back and am thankful to have had such a great group of instructors!

(55)

Tell us what you know about what NWTC is

doing for student success?

• The extra study groups and tutors are a great resource.

• The scholarship program and tutoring programs.

• Nursing staff are warm and welcoming, and always there when needed. Many different learning styles are utilized for each class - many different options.

• The instructors and clinical instructors prepared me very well for being a Registered Nurse. I feel I am very lucky to have gone threw the program and to have the instructors that I did.

• Simulations and emphasis on working as a team are big focuses in the current healthcare world. These are both big focuses of the program.

• Helping create a desirable resume and cover letter.

• I think that the study groups and online exercises really helped.

• Utilizing new and "cutting-edge" equipment to improve learning.

• The Nursing program is amazing! I can honestly say that I have just as much knowledge as an BSN if not more in certain situations, I am currently pursuing my BSN but the ADN program at NWTC was invaluable to me as a nurse!!

• Excellent instructors, simulators that are very helpful, the whole program was the best that I have seen or conspired to other programs.

• The instructors were interested in the success of their students.

instructors, especially Mandee Magno. She has an amazing and humorous way of teaching that makes the course info stick!

• I felt well prepared for this clinical, and felt I benefited greatly from almost all of

the sites I went to.

• I don't believe grades should be based just on exam averages. I am horrible at

taking exams and struggle with keeping a 80%, but overall I have a 93% in the class as a whole. So should I fail a class just because I don't have an 80% exam average, but otherwise would pass with an A?

Comments:

• The community sites that I attended were great for shadowing/observing the skills of a nurse in each specific area, but we weren't allowed to do much "hands-on" learning. However, it was very beneficial to observe numerous sites to see where personally as a nurse I found my greatest interest. The Labor and Delivery 4th floor at Aurora Hospital was my favorite thus far.

• Financial Aid does NOT work very hard to help students like myself be able to

remain in the ADN Full-time Program, and because I'm a 39 year old divorced mother of two who has attempted to get a degree at NWTC over the years, now that I am a successful nursing student in dire need for financial aid, I am denied because I am over my credit limit, which includes credits back from 1993. To me, this policy is absurd and it really shows a negative side of NWTC's financial aid department and the many students that they turn away. It is disgusting.

• The students who teach for the academic coach need to know about the topics

that are being talked about. We can all read the PowerPoint ourselves, but a little more in depth/different way of explaining things would be a lot more helpful than just reading from the PowerPoints.

Looking at the last employees hired in this

role what attributes stood out?

• Pathio/physiology knowledge.

• They were very prepared and had a basic knowledge of how to perform a certain

field.

• Self-sufficient and knowledgeable.

(94)

What are challenges impacting this field?

• Medication knowledge.

• Ensuring that LPNs in general are working within their scope of practice.

• Specialty departments such as Plastic Surgery- Urology - etc. are typically very fast

paced and busy departments and I don't feel the students are prepared for the different work flows and patient variety and demands of the specialty

departments.

Looking toward the future what are the

industry trends?

• LPN/RN for primary care re design that are able to follow protocols in care of the

patient.

• LPNs will be needed for technical skills and assist in care coordination. As each role

works to the capacity of their scope, they will need to have more of an understanding of quality metrics, care coordination, etc.

• I think it's nice that you have a continuing Education for IV placement and Clinic LPNs to

teach EKG, phlebotomy and various other things we learn on the job. It would be nice to have some sort of EPIC training class because all of the major health systems in the area use it now. I think adding sterile tools used for procedures would also be beneficial to LPNs that want to work in a Clinic. That is definitely something that was hard to learn going in new. There are many minor procedures done in office such as colposcopies, endometrial biopsies, IUD insertions, Nexplanon insertions, toenail removal, skin lesion removal, Vasectomies, Incision and drainage of cyst. All wouldn't need to be tough, but at least knowing what the supplies were you need to gather by sight and name would be great.
