CAROLINA MUDCATS STARTING PITCHER

Yean Carlos Gil (heel)

6’2” | 195 lbs

Signed by Atlanta in March 2010

Born: 12/10/90 in Maracay, Venezuela

School:

Pitches: Fastball, Curveball Changeup

TL;DR:

- Gil is on the Atlanta Braves 40-man roster.

- Gil struck out one and allowed one run in one inning pitched in big league spring training. - Underwent “Tommy John” surgery during 2012 season.

- Was 7-6 with a 3.35 ERA over 27 games and 22 starts (126.1ip, 117h, 26bb, 93so) last season in Rome.

- Finished the 2014 season with the 8th lowest earned run average (3.35) among qualified South Atlantic League starters. - Finished the 2014 season with the 2nd lowest WHIP (1.13) among qualified South Atlantic League starters.

- Was 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA over five starts and 28 innings pitched in June, 2014.

- Struck out a season high eight (matching a career high) in a road start versus Asheville on 6/15/14. BIO: Gil was 7-6 with a 3.35 ERA

over 27 games and 22 starts last season in Rome. The lefty struck out 93, walked 26 and allowed 117 hits over 126.1 innings in 2014. Gil had a rough stretch last June where he was 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA over five starts and 28 innings. He bounced back the next two months and posted ERAs of 3.86 and 2.16 in July and August respectively. Combine his last two months with his hot start and overall the lefty would put together a solid season with Class A Rome. He finished the year 8th in the South Atlantic League in ERA and was second in WHIP (1.13). Gil struck out a season high eight (matching a career high) in a road start versus Asheville on 6/15. In his next start against the Tourists, Gil would toss a seven inning complete game shutout (7ip, 1h, 2so) on 7/9 in Asheville. The Braves assigned Gil to Carolina on 3/16/15 along with RHP Mauricio Cabrera. Both had been up in big league camp, but neither saw much time on the mound. Gil struck out one and allowed one run in an inning of work with the big leaguers. He appeared in just five games in 2012 before undergoing “Tommy John” surgery. Gil missed almost all of 2012 and would only appear in 13 games with Danville in 2013. All of that followed his outstanding 2011 season where he was named the organization’s Gulf Coast League Pitcher of the Year. Gil struck out a GCL high 63 in 2011 and posted an 8.18 K/9.0 ip ratio (2nd best in the league). He also posted a 2.91 ERA that season. That mark was good enough for the third-best amongst hurlers in the Braves farm system. The Braves signed the left-handed

throwing Gil in 2010 out of Venezuela. He is entering his fifth season with Atlanta and is currently on the 40-man roster.
