WHY ATTEND THE SMALL UAS SYMPOSIUM

Small UAS are proliferating at a remarkable pace, driven by the insatiable demand for ISR . Many gatherings focus on dramatic efforts such as N-UCAS with 2 demonstration aircraft, or the USAF intent to purchase at least 50 more Predators. In contrast, the Navy recently ordered 13 Shadow, 135 Wasp and 467 Raven systems, and will soon award a contract for STUAS. The Army operates thousands of Group I UAS - 90% of all UAS in DoD are less than 10 pounds.

Small UAS operation is not exclusive to the DoD: several federal agencies operate UAS, such as Bureau of Land Management, Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Patrol, NOAA, US Forestry Service and USGS.

This acquisition of more Small UAS will require the training of a similar amount of operators (one Raven system in every infantry company, one Shadow system for every Battalion of the Marine Corps), and will place an incredible demand on datalink bandwidth while dramatically increasing the likelihood of mid-air collision with manned aircraft.

This symposium is focused on the Small UAS community (Group I, Group II, and Group III) with an understanding of the impact of existing, advancing and asymmetric threats in Joint Warfighting and Homeland Security. The symposium will feature Keynote Addresses by Brigadier General Tim Crosby, USA—Program Executive Officer, Aviation, US Army and Captain J.R. Brown, USN—Program Manager, PMA-263. Other Presentations will be made by the Military users reporting on Current Warfighting Operations. Policymakers will present Acquisition Plans & Emerging Requirements, while Industry and Academia will offer Technology Opportunities. We expect to hear Lessons Learned from Small UAS Operators and will host exhibits with SUAS Themes. The symposium will present numerous networking receptions.

Symposium Sessions will focus on Airspace Deconfliction/Integration, Precision Targeting/Networking, Operator Workload/Training, and Mission Systems. Each session will look to provide three perspectives: 1. Warfighter Problem Statements

2. Requirements/Acquisition Plans for these problems 3. Industry/Academia Technology Push Opportunities Brigadier General
