Commodore's Report

Greetings from your Commodore,

Wow! What a month of May. KCYC was very busy with lots of ac-tivities. I hope that you all were able to take part in at least some of the fun. The month got off to a great start with the opening day of boating at the Seattle Yacht Club. A big thank you goes to the Queen City Yacht Club who once again graciously hosted us for this event. I had the opportunity, as the commodore, to represent KCYC during the opening ceremonies. I thank all of you for giving me this opportunity to represent your club. Afterward, the admiral and I spent the afternoon watching the boat parade from the deck of the Griffin which was a very nice 68 foot yacht. This included lots of good food and wine. A couple of times a support dinghy was called in order to replenish our supplies. Throughout all of the festivities, I was able to meet several people from a variety of yacht clubs. If you have not had the opportunity to participate in these opening day events, you should plan to do so

next year.

The following Friday was our tradi-tional Mother’s Day lunch. This year Diva De Beau from Kingston put on a wonderful fashion show. Thanks to all of you who volun-teered to participate as models. Also, thanks to

Shelly and Chris-tine Kester whose hard work pulled this event together.

Commodore's Report (Continued)

The next day was Kingston’s opening day of boating. Tom Pickens provided an inspirational fleet blessing that will hopefully provide for a safe season for all of us. Following a cruise over gentle seas to President’s Point, we returned to port and we were wine and dined at the KCYC Mexican Fiesta. I can promise you that there were no empty bellies at this event. Lots of very very good food. A very big thank you to Rick and Cheryl Graham who hosted this event and did all the cooking. And thanks to all of you who also helped out and contributed to the success of all of these events.

If you did not go to Poulsbo for the Viking Fest, then you had one weekend to rest up before our annual trip to Port Town-send over Memorial weekend. Weather was good overall but we had one good dump of rain Sunday afternoon. All-in-all, it was a great weekend. Port Townsend always provides for a great venue and the club provides for great company. I would like to thank everyone who participated in the weekend events including our fund raising auction.

We accomplished all of this in one month. Imagine what we can get done over the entire sum-mer! If you are not having fun, it’s your own darn fault! Our Friday night Barbecues at the club have started. Pete DeBoer kicked this off in grand style on May 23rd. Every Friday this summer we will have the BBQ fired up. Just bring something to cook, the salad and potatoes will be pro-vided for $5.00. Speaking of BBQ, our general meeting on June 19 is our family BBQ night

hosted by KCYC. Barbecued ribs prepared by our very own Vice Commodore, Steve Young, will be featured. We also have a cruise to Gig Harbor scheduled for 20-22 June. I hope we see you all there whether you travel by land or by sea.

" Summer is the time when one sheds one’s tensions with one’s clothes, and the right kind of day is jeweled balm for the battered spirit. A few of those days and you can become drunk with the belief that all’s right with the world. "

Vice Commodore's Report

The deck continues to be our focus. We approached the Port several weeks ago with a plan to replace the deck boards on the ramp and in front of the main door. We would provide labor and the Port would supply the material estimated at $700. So, it went to the Port Commissioners and they decided to use Trex boards and do the deck around the side of the building as well. The Port Manager was asked to check with the County for permit requirements and then get 3 estimates from licensed contractors. The bids came in at about $12,000 and $9,000 for the lower decks and $6,000 to do the top deck. As it stands, things have ground to a halt!! My feeling is to redo our part of the upper deck and let the Port handle the rest.

Respectfully Submitted, Steve Young

Rear Commodore’s Report

News from the Bar:

May has seen a Wonderful month at KCYC. We had eight events or socials with a lot of participa-tion.

While many of us were at Seattle Opening Day weekend at QCYC and SYC, Kim and Tony Clark bartended and filled the club Friday night. Thank you both for doing a great job.

The following weekend was the Mother’s Day Luncheon (Thank you Shelly Kester), Kingston’s Opening Day and Fiesta Night Dinner (Thank You Cheryl and Rick Graham; the food was great). The rest of the month was the General Meeting and Friday Night Socials, where participation is in-creasing as the weather is improving and more members are back in the area. Visiting Yacht clubs like West Seattle Y C have added to the fun. Thank you, Pete Deboer, for cranking up the BBQ for our visitors and members.

Remember, the BBQ will be on every Friday night through the summer. Bring whatever you want to cook and for $5.00, all the trimmings will be provided.

June will be active with club events. Remember the June General meeting is family Night.

If you have renewed your yearly membership, membership cards and scrip will be available at the bar while Tom Pickens is gone boating. See Lindsey, Jennifer, or myself if you have not received your cards yet.

We are still looking for ideas and sponsors for Friday Night Social events. In the past we have had Poker Nights, Bingo Nights, Trip sharing, etc. If you have ideas or would like to sponsor an evening event, give me a call. (541-602-3220 or butch_brown@comcast.net). Let me know what you would like to see Friday nights!

See you at the club! R.C. Butch

Fleet Captain's Report

May has been one busy boating month and I am looking forward to even more boating in the up-coming months!

Thanks to all of the boaters and Land Yachts that attended the Port Townsend Cruise. The Linda Lou, Blue Moon, Shine, Tenacity, Sallie B, Jolly Mon and the Knotty Shell braved the seas to Point Hudson, while Randy and Michael navigated the roads in their RV’s. We once again enjoyed the loft in the Belmont Hotel for dinner, shopped, and had a few cocktails on the dock.

Despite the very small turnout for the Fleet Auction on Sunday, we did raise over $500.00. Thank you to those that attended for your generous donations.

The Gig Harbor cruise is June 20th to the 23nd. If you are planning on attending, please call Ara-bella’s very soon to confirm your reservation. The phone number is 253-851-1793. The slip assign-ments will be done by the marina. Just call or radio as you arrive and they will let you know where you will be moored. I am working on activities for the weekend and will be emailing information out after June 2nd.Come by land or sea and enjoy the fun.

The Port Ludlow cruise is July 25th to 27th. Boaters need to call the marina by July 11th to make your reservation.

Tom’s Monthly Musings:

More from the boob tube (the following is a reprint of a prior article with some additions):

Are you sick of the same old T.V. ads continuing to blast you? Wouldn't it be fun to be able to change the format of some of these ads? For example take the actor William DeVane, whether he's

on his horse or in an airplane he is always bragging about his wealth "Hi, my Daddy advised me when I was young to invest my money in time shares and I did and I did quite poorly but I recovered and invested my welfare checks into plastic. I buy my plastic from Creton Plastic Investments (Creton Plastics received 800 billion dollars in the government bailout program). I receive my plastic in a timely fashion. Don't you just like the feel of plastic? Plastic is easy to deal with and you needn't be afraid of smuggling it.

There's a storm coming, it's called inflation. What's in your safe? Oh look, there's Fred Thompson. Fred bailed me out of my timeshares with a reverse mortgage. "HI, I'm Fred Thompson. I used to be a U.S. sena-tor, later a D.A. on Law and Order but found I could make much more money by peddling reverse mort-gages. Convincing poor old people, who don't have a clue, that reverse mortgages are the only way to go, however I must admit I have no idea how it works. Somehow it just doesn't seem feasible that a lending in-stitution would pay off your mortgage and let you still live there. But my bosses assure me that's how it works and they pay me lots of their money which I invest in plastic. (I have a friend who did the reverse mortgage thing and he came home one night to find Robert Wagner and Henry Winkler now living there.) This allows me the freedom to attend conventions like this Convention for Ex-Celebrities Who Advertise Weird Products. Hey, there's Joe Theisman who used to be a quarterback for the Redskins. He broke his leg in front of six million viewers."

Joe Theisman here: “Aren't you tired of getting up a dozen times a night? My wife left me because of it, so I invented Sooper Beta Prostate. We offer a money back guarantee if it doesn't work. So far we haven’t made much money since we give away all these free bottles and still give their money back. What most people don't know, my real reason for retiring was not my leg injury but my constant trips to the men's room, didn't allow me any time to throw a pass.

Thank the Lord for Fred's reverse mortgages and William's plastic!

I may get into the insurance business like Flo or the Gecko. A unique way of making money. Say you pay $1,200 a year for your auto insurance. Progressive saves you $400. Now you're down to $800. Geico saves you $400. Down to $400 annually. All State saves you $400. Now you have complete coverage for nothing. Here's where the payoff comes. State Farms drops your premium by $400. They actually send you a check for $400. I know some resourceful people who have retired off insurance companies and have complete coverage!

Breaking news: This has just been released: Casey Kason’s visit to Kitsap County was his quest to sign singing contracts with Pete DeBoer, Carol Wetmore and Jovita LaChelt hoping to revise the top 40 count-down. He discovered later they had already been signed by Bandstand's Dick Clark. Casey's wife has used this latest act as evidence her husband is truly senile.

Hope your fancy was tickled and if you'd like to know what "laughing stock" is, just think of a cow with a sense of humor or a pig who had to die before it was cured.
