Are you looking for the ultimate advantage in the fast-paced trucking industry? The Transportation Management Development Program at UNB’s College of Extended Learning will teach you the skills and provide the tools to be a more effective manager in today’s ever-evolving trucking industry.

As a participant you will acquire knowledge in fundamental management concepts and learn practical tools and techniques that will enable you to excel in your workplace. The program consists of 10 days of classroom instruction over a six to eight month period. Each program module, specifically designed for the trucking industry, will include an assignment that is designed to powerfully solidify the skills and knowledge acquired in each module.

Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be awarded a Certificate in Transportation Management Development from the University of New Brunswick. WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Applicants should have at least three years experience in one of the following: • First line or higher level management

• A position leading to management in the trucking industry • A position requiring management theory and practice BENEFITS

• Make important decisions around staffing needs and how best to manage them • Understand and apply the fundamental concepts of finance, enabling you to

interpret basic financial data in the trucking industry

INSTRUCTORS

Betty McCarthy has over twenty years broad-based experience consulting, training and working in Human Resources with both public and private sector, large and small organizations in New Brunswick. Since 1988, she has been Principal Consultant with Career Directions/Directions + Co. Currently Betty works with emerging New Brunswick businesses in a broad range of human resource and communication areas, ranging from competency-based selection to employee career development and improving the quality of work life. For the past several years, she has developed and delivered three modules of the Human Resource Management Certificate program at UNB, Recruitment and

Selection, Retention and Human Resource Planning. As well, she serves as curriculum advisor to this program. Recently, Betty made significant revisions to the BDC program

curriculum, HR Dynamics, which is being delivered across Canada. Betty serves as coach and advisor to the program consultants. As well, she has an extensive background in developing and delivering communication, teambuilding and human resource

management courses including Teambuilding for Quality, Interpersonal Communication, Conflict Management, Building a Respectful Workplace and Improving Hiring Accuracy.

Betty possesses a B.A. (Hons) from the University of Toronto and an M.Ed. (Adult Education) from the University of New Brunswick. Her client base includes numerous companies from the manufacturing and transportation sectors, as well as the sales and service sector.

Kevin Brown, P.Eng, MBA - Partner

Kevin is a professional engineer with more than 15 years of progressive

management experience in advanced manufacturing. He holds a Masters degree in Business Administration and is certified as a Quality Technician through

the American Society for Quality. Kevin provides hands on business guidance to clients through a unique understanding of operations and financial management. As a founder of Kensington Associates, Kevin has assisted individual clients, facilitated

professional development programs and collaborated on strategic economic advancement projects.

Laurie Bourque, CMC - Partner

Laurie has over eighteen years of experience in business development and consulting. He holds the professional designation of Certified Management Consultant. He has assisted both non-profit and private organizations achieve a variety of strategic goals. Laurie is a graduate of the Professional Human Resources Management Program at the University of New Brunswick. Before founding Kensington Associates, he was Managing Partner with the Business Development Bank of Canada's consulting group.

As an experienced bilingual consultant having worked with Human Resources challenges in a wide variety of organizations from contact centers to major manufacturing sites, Laurie is well versed in the design and implementation of sustainable Human Resource development programs and is often called upon to deliver the key note address on issues from Human Resource Management to Sustainable Business Development.

Full Certificate Program

The tuition fee for the complete program is $2995.

Fees include lunch and refreshment breaks, program material, and a certificate of

completion. Full tuition payment is due in advance of the program start date to complete the application process.

Fees include lunch and refreshment breaks, and program material. A certificate of completion will be given after the participant has successfully completed all five modules. Full module payment is due two weeks in advance of the module start date to complete the application process.
