Alien was crafted from the powerful idea of the sun’s rays conveyed in the form of a raw block of intense ingredients. This was based on an accord of natural sambac jasmine, the most powerful jasmine scent, echoed by a duo of amber and wood.
The secret of Alien lies in subtle dosing between the luminous flower – sambac jasmine - and the more animal white amber. An imaginary note tinged with mystery, an extraordinary, almost surrealistic, woody ingredient created a link between the two antagonistic poles: cashmeran.
Without a doubt, the strength of these two poles and their magnetism are what gives rise to the attractiveness of Alien. Their initial temperaments continue to express themselves in harmonious reconciliation to give this fragrance a recognizable and singular identity. For it is the prerogative of a great perfume to have a distinct personality, noted and memorized from the beginning, and subsequently identified in an instant. Ultimately, it must have generosity and breadth, which most certainly is the case with Alien. Alien Eau de Parfum is a creation signed by Dominique Ropion, Master-Perfumer at IFF, and Laurent Bruyère.
"At the beginning, the creative impetus was wild and profound. It was not yet a fragrance, just the promise of a fragrance. But we all knew that it would be an olfactory explosion. We needed to tame it, to subdue it in certain areas. Like a sculptor confronting the most beautiful of Carrara marbles, we carved into the noble mass to release the details and nuances that the initial thrust tended to smother. Being a perfumer means confronting material, paying attention to it… As is the case for all handcrafting, this exchange is very carnal. We knew the fragrance was complete when, after smelling the last modification, we had nothing to add and nothing to remove. We had created the right balance."

Under the dazzling sun of India grow the flowers destined to enhance Alien with their sparkle. Sambac jasmine of the “Malligai” variety predominates in the Madurai region, the Indian capital of jasmine located in the south of the country. This is where unique, six-petaled flowers that are not yet in full bloom are harvested for luxury perfume, and even more so for the ceremonies, festivals and religious rites that are part of the purest Indian tradition. Each year, 3 tons of sambac jasmine concrete are produced on 6474 hectares in the region of Tamil Nadu.
From March to October, the fields of Madurai are covered with an immaculate carpet rising to a height of 1.5 meters. With elegantly curved leaves and delicate petals the color of white porcelain, the fragility of sambac jasmine belies the surprising power of its scent, a “pure olfactory diamond with multiple facets” that mixes
sensual green and honeyed notes with the scent of orange blossom.
Each day at the first light of dawn, while the city is still asleep, the unopened buds are harvested at the peak of their odorant power, at a moment when the powerful sun has not yet erased a substantial part of the flower’s
perfu-med substance. Dressed in saris, the harvesters delicately pluck the buds with slender fingers and precise gestures to avoid damaging the flowers; their work requires dexterity and rapidity. The quality of “jasmine absolute” depends greatly on how fresh the flower is when it is processed for perfumery. For this reason, the extraction workshop is located close to the plantations. Approximately 700 kg of the most delicate jasmine buds are needed to make 1 kg of sambac jasmine absolute (or oil). Consequently, jasmine is one of the most expensive oils and one of the world’s most sought-after fragrances, along with rose absolute. This is why very few perfumes are made using true jasmine absolute.
In India, sambac jasmine is a sacred, mystic flower valued for its symbolic qualities of purity and nobility, as well as a scent that is as elusive as it is seductive. It is a preferred religious offering, a symbol of divine hope. The freshly harvested flower buds are arranged in small bouquets or braided together to make garlands that are still offered today to temple divinities.

To create Alien Eau de Toilette, I wanted to illuminate the beautiful bouquet of white flowers and give it a touch of color: a sparkling duo of mandarin and star anise highlights the fresh and joyful facets. A very crystalline, rich and powerful Jasmine Grandiflorum note enriches the heart, and gives the fragrance its distinctive and unique floral dimension."

Its rounded design is inspired by the "marquise" style: a way of cutting precious stones in 56 facets using a complex and painstaking expertise, which pays tribute to the radiant smile of the Marquise de Pompadour (France, 18th century).

"To reveal even more light and add a touch of optimism to Alien Eau Extraordinaire, I worked around citrus notes like bergamot, a material which best evokes the sense of joy and vitality, as well as very feminine notes like tiaré flower and heliotrope. These two enabled me to build a soft yet radiant floral structure. I wanted to create a profusion of sun-kissed notes for a woman with a positive, beaming aura."
