This book could be implemented in planning for Primary music time activities, or in any other situation for which it is appropriate. This book and CDs contain all visual aids and information formerly contained in all three volumes of a set. In addition, it contains colored visual aids. Text and thumnail images are printed in this book. All information and visual aids are also on the CDs. Text and wordstrips are in .pdf files, and all visual aids files are in .tif format. They should be easily opened on your PC or Mac computer and can be imported and printed in color or black and white for your personal use.

Print the images onto regular or heavyweight paper, either white or colored. In most cases, simple supplies are all you will need for coloring your black and white visual aids. Markers, crayons, colored pencils, and watercolors are good media to use. Remember if you use a bubble jet printer, your pictures will not be waterproof. Using watercolors or water-based markers should work fine if you use a laser printer. If the project needs to be mounted, it can be glued onto heavy paper with regular glue or spray glue. If desired, cover figures with clear Contact® paper or laminate. Usually when cutting items out, it is best to leave a narrow white margin all around. Prepare with flannel, magnets, or Velcro® for use with flannelboard, magnet board, or Velcro® board.

To make an enlargement, import the file to a program on your computer that will allow you to stretch the image larger. Not all images will look good when enlarged.

Visual aids may be implemented in many ways. Try posting them on the wall, on an easel or board, or have children hold them. Some of the visual aids in this book are paper bag puppets. Assemble as shown on the following page, using small lunch size paper bags. Many visual aids can be turned into stick puppets by mounting them on tongue depressers (just make sure they are stiff enough by mounting them on stiff paper or cardboard). For some songs, actions are recommended instead of visual aids. For some of these the actions are described.

Each song is listed alphabetically in the Song Index, where both the page number for the Children's Songbook and the page number where you will find the song in the Song Visual Aids Lists are given. In the Song Visual Aids Lists, visual aids and word strips are listed by phrase or line for each song. For most songs, only the first verse is shown. For other songs, more than one verse is shown. You may want to teach more verses, or you may want to use different visual aids (or more or fewer). You will find the visual aids placed alphabetically on the CDs. The word strips are in a .pdf file, also arranged alphabetically.

You could go about using these books in several ways, but the easiest way would be to prepare the visual aids as needed, song by song. Some efficient and organized souls might want to prepare all the visual aids at once so they will be ready for anything. Either way, you will want to have them organized in such a way that they will be easy to find and will not get mixed up. My suggestion would be to get a file box and fit it with hanging file folders - ideally, one for each letter or group of letters of the alphabet. As you prepare the visual aids, puppets, and wordstrips, just file them according to their title under their letter. Tape the title on the back of each item before filing. That way you will have to sort through only a few items to find the ones you want, and as you gather other visual aids you can file them along with these. These are some ideas, possibilities, and suggestions; make them work for you in whatever ways are most helpful.
