This exclusive, executive-only event is an absolute ‘must attend’ for CIOs. Through in-depth sessions, strategic presentations and workshops, Gartner analysts will cut through the hype to deliver a clear perspective, locally relevant and globally informed, on what you need to know – from breakthrough approaches to delivering business value through IT to the strategic implications of fast-evolving technologies and industry trends.

Top Five Reasons to Attend

The role of a CIO has never been as complex as it is today. Economic change will not come to all places at the same time, accelerating the pace and risk of change. The decisions and adjustments you make in February will determine your value potential for 2011.

At the Gartner Middle East CIO Leadership Forum, you’ll learn how to use strategic insights to achieve measurable results in a unique, interactive format designed exclusively for CIOs.

Executive engagement and networking. The Gartner Middle East CIO Leadership Forum is for CIOs, and only CIOs — a requirement that promises each of our attendees a stimulating experience. You and your fellow CIOs will be on the same wavelength when it comes to challenges and opportunities; leaders learning from leaders in an intimate setting of peers.

A closer look at new realities. Learn how to leverage the business opportunities presented by emerging technologies such as cloud, SaaS and social media — and get the tools you need to prove the value of every IT investment to your C-level peers.

Personal Gartner analyst consultations. Through private Gartner Analyst One-on-One Meetings — many of whom are former CIOs themselves — you can hear firsthand the pragmatic advice and recommendations that Gartner is known for; an invaluable “reality check” for your organization’s programs and projects.

Hands-on problem solving. At this Leadership Forum, you’ll do much more than listen. We have more than 15 working sessions concentrating on top-of-mind issues for CIOs.

A clear view of the future. In an era of unprecedented transition and change, what’s coming next can be difficult to predict. This Forum will help you identify emerging expectations and requirements and maps out a navigable path for the future. You will leave with key take-aways and action plans, including access to valuable post-event materials.

12:30 – 13:50 Roundtable Networking Lunch 13:50 – 14:50 Building World Class IT shared services

Many factors create the desire or the need to move to a shared services environment. Shared services and consolidation represent a significant opportunity for an enterprise CIO to add value and free up resources to support innovation and new applications, or simply to save money. Conversely, there are also some difficult barriers that make success unlikely, especially in the public sector, even when the business case for proceeding is obvious to everyone. In this session, we will explore critical success factors that must be addressed when pursuing shared services. It is about people, process and technology – but it’s human nature that is the biggest obstacle. s

Best practices for IT Governance in Complex Enterprises

Governance is no longer just about IT. Best practice CIOs approach governance holistically across the enterprise and within an enterprise context. We’ll identify the building blocks of effective governance, and how CIOs can configure those blocks to fit their enterprise. G

Workshop: Managing Consultants and External providers

External consultants and service providers are an essential part of the resources available to most CIOs but it’s often difficult to get the best results. This interactive workshop gives you the opportunity to hear from your peers about their best practices in using external consultants and service providers and to share your own successes and challenges. IT

10:00 – 11:00 Building Your Roadmap Towards World Class IT performance and Agility

The infrastructure and applications used by your organization are its digital skeleton, whether it owns them or not. How the organization evolves, grows and expands is, in part, defined by its relationships with these assets. Organizations require high level strategic plans for the way their technology footprint can, should and might evolve: they need a technology roadmap. We describe how to build the technology roadmap for your organization. IT

Best practice for Operations and service Management – Advancing the use of ITIL and Other Methodologies

IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) is a set of best practices that has been touted as a cure for what ails IT. Adopting the processes defined by ITIL is supposed to improve IT service management (ITSM) and make IT more “customer focused.” But what exactly does that mean? Given the significant time and expense involved in adopting ITIL, what is the return on the investments? What are the trends in ITIL adoption? How should ITIL be tailored for different industries and sizes? What framework should be used to measure an effective ITIL Implementation? This presentation will look at the standard best practices recommended for IT Operations and Services Management from a people, process and technology point of view. s

11:00 – 11:15 Delegate Networking and Break Time 11:15 – 12:00 sponsor Thought Leadership

12:00 – 13:30 Roundtable Networking Lunch

13:30 – 14:30 Global Trends for the Developing Role of Government CIOs in the GCC Region

The role of the public sector CIO is still new in some governments and continuing to evolve in most of the rest. CIOs are becoming less focused on technology and more focused on helping government leaders achieve political and policy objectives. This is having a profound effect on what government leaders expect from CIOs, how IT governance works, how IT organizations are structured, and even the skills needed for the CIO to be successful. This session will take lessons learned from governments worldwide to point to how the role of CIO might evolve in the GCC with greater likelihood of success. G

Workshop: Business Value is the Best Argument: Trends and Best practices for Communicating the Value of IT

IT has undoubtedly been the single biggest transformational resource of the 20th century. Even without explicitly measured business value from IT-lead projects the value was implicitly anticipated by the business. Given that IT was a scarce resource, IT’s value discussions were focused on demonstrating that no resources were wasted. Over the last years there has been a clear shift in business expectations towards IT moving from not wasting resources to delivering measurable business value, in other words delivering or contributing to deliver results. During this workshop we will introduce and practice a number of techniques and tools that will equip CIOs to better demonstrate and communicate the business value. M

14:45 – 15:45 The Next Big Five Technology Decisions and how to Take Them

Everyone is talking about the cloud, but there are other technologies too that create new opportunities and destroy current value. We’ll concentrate on the top five, so that you’re fully prepared for the next critical big technology decisions you have to make in 2011. T

15:45 – 16:15 Delegate Networking and Break Time

16:15 – 17:00 Closing Keynote – The Roadmap To CIO Excellence: Actions and priorities For success
