Web based Office Suite (Runs in any browser) Authenticate using your Google mail account
Documents
Upload Word documents, OpenOffice, RTF, HTML or text files (or create documents from scratch).
Easily format your documents, spell-check them, etc. Invite others by email to edit or view your documents. Edit documents online with whomever you choose.
View your documents' revision history and roll back to any version.
Publish documents online to the world, as webpages or post documents to your blog.
Download documents to your desktop as Word, OpenOffice, RTF, PDF, HTML or zip.
Presentations
Share and edit presentations with your friends and coworkers. Import existing presentations in .ppt and .pps file types.
Download your presentations as a PDF, a PPT, or a TXT file. Easily edit your presentations.
Insert images and videos, and format your slides to fit your preferences.
Allow real-time viewing of presentations, online, from separate remote locations.
Publish and embed your presentations in a website, allowing access to a wide audience.
Spreadsheets
Import .xls, .csv, .txt and .ods formatted data.
Export .xls, .csv, .txt and .ods formatted data and PDF and HTML files.
Use formatting and formula editing so you can calculate results and make your data look the way you want it.
Chat in real time with others who are editing your spreadsheet. Embed a spreadsheet, or individual sheets of your spreadsheet, in your blog or website.
New: Optimize linear equations with Solve by specifying a target cell for the result and adding constraints (You find Solve in the Tools menu)
Optimize Linear Equations
An example of when and how to use Solve
Let's say you're a farmer and you want to decide what to grow. You know that each crop will bring in a certain amount of money and take a certain amount of land, capital, and fertilizer to grow.
You can grow three things: wheat, corn, and broccoli.
Each of them has its own costs and brings in a given amount of money. However, there are only limited resources available:
Money available: $170 Land available: 70 acres Fertilizer available: 100 tons
Optimize Linear Equations
Optimize Linear Equations
These are the formulas used in the spreadsheet:
Money (Cell B7) =9*A3+8*B3+7*C3 Land (Cell B8) =7*A3+8*B3+9*C3 Fertilizer (Cell B9) =2*A3+10*C3 Profit (Cell B16) =6*A3+8*B3+C3
When you run Solve, it can tell you what to grow:
Google Docs: Size Limits
Docs: Each doc can have a maximum size of 500K, plus up to 2MB per embedded image.
Spreadsheets: Each can be up to 256 columns, 200,000 cells, or 100 sheets--whichever is reached first. There's no limit on rows. Presentations: Files in .ppt and .pps formats can have a maximum size of 10MB or 200 slides; files uploaded from the Web can be up to 2MB; emailed files can be up to 500K.
PDFs: You can store up to 10MB per PDF from your computer and 2MB from the Web in your Docs list, up to 100 PDFs.
Number of items to be stored:
You have a combined limit of 5000 documents and presentations and 5000 images (Makes up to 50 GB online)
You have a limit of 1000 spreadsheets. The spreadsheets that are shared with you do not count against 1000 limit.
Microsoft Cloud Centers Coming Online
Client Server News 795 - July 13-17
Microsoft threw the switch on its new mega data center in Dublin on July 1 and expects to do same for the one it's built in Chicago on July 20. The facilities are meant to support the company's
Online, Live and cloud services. Dublin is Microsoft's first mega site outside the US. It covers 303,000 square feet capable of 5.4 megawatts of power now on its way to 22.2 megawatts with
demand. The Chicago site covers 700,00 square feet, the size of 16 football fields, with 30 megawatts to start and capable of 60
megawatts. Two-thirds of the place is optimized for containerized servers, which Microsoft says conserve energy. Each of the pre-packaged containers holds 1,800-2,500 servers. Microsoft says their density can exceed traditional data centers by 10 times. In total more than 1.000.000 servers
