Document Description
This document outlines a template for Major Trauma Operational Delivery Networks to assist in the development of a Work Programme to underpin the National Major Trauma Peer Review Process. The authors have developed this template as an example and use the term “Network” throughout. However, this template can be utilised by Major Trauma Centres and Trauma Units by substituting the word “Network” for “service”, “MTC” or “TU” as applicable. Indicative headings are provided with a description of section content and are intended to be constructive.
The document is one of 3 templates produced to assist Major Trauma Networks in the writing of a series of documents to underpin the Major Trauma Peer Review process in an attempt to reduce the administrative burden in terms of document submission and review. Further templates include a sample Annual Report (Document MTN-AR-01-10-14) and sample Operational Policy (Document MTN-OP-03-10-14) and Table 1 provides an outline of the suggested content of each document. A matrix identifying where each of the Major Trauma National Peer Review Measures fit within these 3 documents is also included (Document MTN-PRM-04-10-14).

demonstration of the clinical guidelines and treatment protocols for the Network
This is a work in progress and the authors will welcome all comments and suggestions.

Authors note: This document provides one example of a Work Programme for Major Trauma Operational Delivery Networks as part of the National Peer Review Process; it is recognised that there are other
documents already in use in some networks and the intention is to provide an example to aid networks in the development and delivery of a plan of network activity where no plan already exists.

Introduction
In this section explain the purpose of the document and introduce the Work Plan. This might be something along the lines of:
“This document provides a brief illustration of key achievements; improvements and developments within the <name> Major Trauma Network over the period <insert date>. It contains a Work Plan illustrating the activities of the Network and key outputs and measures to be achieved (how or why and by whom) within the given time period. It provides a framework to be used as a guide for delivering the work of the Network during the identified period. Key Network measures identified in the National Peer Review Programme are indicated throughout the Work Plan…..”
Service Improvement and Development
In this section include information within the given time period. Include a summary of improvements, any relevant changes in service development or delivery and any actions resulting from audit and previous review. You might want to say where progress has been made on a specific area, service, issue, project etc. Additionally you might want to include any workforce changes and describe how this has contributed or impacted on the aims of the Network or your current Network or service objectives. In essence include anything of relevance and importance for the previous year. You could also use this section to make links to on-going or future work within the Network.
Making a Difference – the Patient Story
In this section link some of the key achievements to improving the patient experience and outcomes. You might want to include any patient feedback or involvement and any future plans in respect of the patient experience/outcome i.e. Patient Reported Experience Measures; (PREMs) and Patient Reported Outcome Measures; (PROMs). At this stage you might want to use a patient story to bring the service to life.
Network Work Plan
In this section introduce the Network Work Plan and any mechanism for monitoring progress against the plan. Explain how the Plan will be taken forward and implemented across the Network. Indicate that the Network Work Plan for the period <date> is included at Appendix 1.

Appendix 1 - Network Work Plan April <year> to March <year>
Design a Network Work Plan to identify the activities of the Network within the given period. A number of sample templates are included to assist in the development of a plan. Additionally the Network Work Plan might be underpinned by a Network Risk Register/Log and sample risk documents are included to assist with the design and development of a Network Risk Register/Log. These are provided as examples with an appreciation that some Networks might already have a preferred structure/layout.
