Institutional component
(only valid for University College of Northern Denmark)
The teaching methods used on the program
On the multimedia Design course at University College, a broad range of teaching methods is used, all of which support the above and promote the achievement of the learning targets described in this curriculum.
The teaching methods are based on UCN technology’s common learning approach. The learning approach is based on the PULS philosophy of “The Whole Person”, where the learning attainments are described in three dimensions, namely:
Head: “Knowledge, reflection and the ability to generate ideas.”
Heart: “Personal insight and development, relations and collaboration.” Legs: “Management ability and responsibility.”
The general teaching methods are dialogue-based, with classroom teaching, solving tasks and project work in groups. But working in study groups, individual study, individual assignments and projects, presentations in groups and for the whole year group, interdisciplinary theme courses and a lot of other methods are also used.
What is common to these activities is that we always try to establish (or assist in establishing) clear targets for the learning activities.
A range of additional activities are also offered, which can help to promote individual learning: extra programming, “a homework group” and individual supervision and coaching. There is a focus in the teaching on the working processes of software development in order to support the development of the profession’s skills and competencies.
Multimedia Designer AK Curriculum University College of Northern Denmark
In order for the program’s teaching methods to function, there is compulsory participation
including the submission/presentation of assignments/projects.
The participation requirements can also be a condition for participating in the tests on the
course.
There can also be compulsory attendance for certain study elements.
Compulsory participation and any attendance requirements that are a prerequisite for doing the
tests, will appear on the semester plans.
The institution will register the degree of participation. The purpose is to be able to offer aid
and supervision as quickly as possible if a student is not complying with their participation
obligations.
Criteria for the deregistration of students who are not active in their studies
Registration can be cancelled for students who have not been active in their studies for a consecutive period of at least one year.
Study activity can be defined such that the student, in the period of the previous 12 calendar months has:
1. fulfilled their obligation to participate in every form of activity that is a part of the program, including
group work, joint projects, distance learning etc. as specified by the curriculum
2. has submitted the assignments, reports, learning portfolios etc. specified by the curriculum to be a
prerequisite for participation in the tests with appropriate content, including not submitting material that others have the copyright for.
3. has attended the activities that are required by the attendance requirements, as specified by the
curriculum.
Non-fulfillment of one or several of the criteria in the definition of study activity can be grounds for
deregistration. Periods in which the student has not been active in their studies due to maternity leave, adoption, documented illness or military service, will not be included. The student must, if required to, produce
documentation for these conditions.
The program may grant exemptions from these provisions if there are exceptional circumstances. An application for exemption must be sent to the head of the program
Prior to enrollment being revoked, the individual student will be advised of this in writing. The student is reminded in this regard of the above rules. The letter will inform the student that they have 14 days to send in documentation for the periods in which study activity is lacking which should not be counted and the deadline for the application for exemption.
If the student fails to respond within the allotted period, they will be deregistered.
If the student asks that the registration not be terminated, this application has a suspensive effect until the case is decided by the course leader.
The student can complain to the leader over the leader of the program about the decision by the latest two weeks after receipt of the decision. The complaint has a suspensive effect. If the leader upholds the decision, the student can then complain to the Ministry within two weeks after receiving the decision with regard to legal issues.
Rules for the tests that the student should have participated in (in accordance with the Order of the exams) prior to the completion of the second semester and passed prior to the end of the 4th semester, and in which the Order for this course has stipulated deadlines for the completion of the program, these apply regardless of the rules above.
Requirements for written projects and assignments
All the semesters are described in a detailed lesson plan. This indicates how the individual assignments and projects are planned on a time scale. The assignments and projects are handed out in a project
Multimedia Designer AK Curriculum University College of Northern Denmark presentation that contains detailed descriptions of the requirements as to content and the number of pages.
All projects must be handed in at reception in the required number of copies described in the project presentation.
All submissions must be provided with a standard front page, which can be found in the text: Project work on the Multimedia Designer Course. The latest version of this is always accessible on the intranet. The requirements for the final exam project are described under the section Final Exam Project.
Credits
Course elements that have been passed are equivalent to those at other institutions providing the program.
The institution can, in each individual case, approve the granting of credit for completed course components from another Danish or foreign institution of higher education.
The decision will be made according to a professional assessment of the equivalence between the components of the program.
If it is approved, the course element will be regarded as completed if it has been passed in accordance with the rules of the institution in question.
Elements that can be completed abroad
The internship as well as the final project can be completed abroad. One condition is that the educational institute has approved the company/educational institute and the content.
Other course elements can also be completed at foreign institutes by agreement with the course provider.
Foreign languages
Parts of the teaching materials on the course are in English and parts of the teaching can take place in English.
No further knowledge of foreign languages is required in addition to what is specified in the Admission Order.

Theme of the year: Leisure
We have chosen Leisure as our theme of the year. This means that the projects will be developed in collaboration with a company/institution that works within this field.
Multimedia Designer AK Curriculum University College of Northern Denmark This also means that the prototype that is developed must appeal to a given target audience which needs a service within the field of experience/leisure.
The framework is quite broad, but the supervisors reserve the right to reject a project description if we feel that the assignment falls outside of the theme of the year. It is thus very important that all groups describe carefully the company and the nature of the assignment.
Requirements for the project
In addition to the requirements mentioned in the curriculum, there are a series of requirements in the individual subjects that will need to be incorporated into the project.
The company:
Based on a strategic analysis of the company, as well as an application of relevant models, the strategic considerations to be used during the completion of the chosen assignment, must be analysed and assessed.
We expect you to explain the project development model you have used and why, and you must prepare a guideline time budget regarding the development of the prototype.
When producing the prototype, you must take the relevant legislation into account.
Communication and promotion:
Define a target audience based on a theory-based analysis and argue theoretically for the product. In the report you must explain the methods used for the gathering of empirics, both in the investigative as well as the test phases. You must also explain the prioritising of the various requirements set by the various stakeholders.
Design and visualisation:
You must produce a series of sketches and prototypes illustrating the development from idea phase to the finished design as well as the navigation as a user interface. The design must live up to the
requirements that the target groups and users require for functionality, communication and quality (e.g. usability and experience).
It must be clear that various principles for good design have been used in the solution. This means both design theory, (typography, colour, design and image editing etc.) as well as theories of experience design and user friendliness.
The chosen style must also be carefully considered and assessed in accordance with the genre. Finally, you must use different media in your solution.
In the assessment, we will be focusing on whether the design fulfills the requirements, that the design process is well illustrated and argued for as well as the design being theoretically well argued.
Interaction development
The prototype must contain some form of interaction with the user. This means that the user must be able to select and interact with the site.
The programming aspects of the task must be solved using ASP.NET and C# with CSS.
There must also be a form of persistence, ie. information regarding the visit to the site from the user must be saved on the server. It could be a guestbook, a log, an order, a request or just statistics. The task does not necessarily need to be solved with databases, just a simple text file.
Multimedia Designer AK Curriculum University College of Northern Denmark In the assessment, emphasis will be laid on the project containing considerations on maintenance, testing and quality.
Multimedia: The prototype, which will typically be a website, must contain several media. It could be a Flash animation, a video, sound/talk.
