Spring arrived in March, but in May it is bursting out all over. It is time for us to talk about bugs, bullfrogs, and butterflies... and to discover the science, beauty, poetry, and stories of nature's renewal! With Spring, the sun has returned, and we will study the new life that it brings: plants that grow from seeds, bulbs, beans, pits, and grains... as well as plants that awaken from dormancy... animals born alive and well, animals that arrive in eggs, animals that transform in curious life-cycles, and animals that awaken from a long Winter's nap. We'll examine the creepy crawly world of insects that come around our yards and 'bug' us, and, of course, we'll admire the flowers that bloom in the Spring!

Shane enjoyed an EQ activity in the Infant Room; he dressed up as the "Spring Bunny" and delivered a few colorful eggs to his friends!

During our "Five Senses" theme in Early Logic, Gavin used his 'sense of hearing' to listen to the different sound of each

Preschool Registration for the

2012-2013 School Year

Preschool registration is well underway, and is now open to the public. THANK YOU to all who participated in our priority registration period!

The Teaching Staff and Executive Board consider each student’s placement very carefully; Preschool class placements will not be made until late summer. Thank you!

After discussing the 'sense of touch' in Language Arts, Thomas laughed as he felt the "bumpy" and "tickly" bristle blocks!

During a gross motor activity in the Infant Room, Nicholas crawled through the tunnel to follow the bumpy yellow ball. He used his

'sense of sight' to find the bright ball, and his 'sense of touch' when he grabbed it and felt it's spiky texture!

THANK YOU

to the Families of Kinder Works!

In April, Kinder Works families filled 9

overflowing baskets of pajamas and books for local

children in need! Wow!

THANK YOU for 'paying it forward,' and for helping us to complete our mission of teaching young children that they can help care for others, and that everyone can make a difference! You helped bring a smile to a child in need, providing them with a warm and comfortable sleep filled with sweet dreams of people who care!

Remember: being KINDER works!

Welcome Warm Weather

Fun in the sun means it's time for sunscreen! As the weather gets warmer, we spend more time outside. Please dress your child appropriately for outside play, wearing sunscreen. Also, please check your child's cubby to be sure he/she has a change of clothes suitable for the season!

Per our Parent Handbook, our teachers will reapply sunscreen to full day children, using Waterbabies PURE & SIMPLE, SPF 50 by Coppertone (a hypoallergenic, tear free formula); we welcome parents to send a bottle of this type of sunscreen to school with your child. If your child CANNOT use this particular brand of sunscreen due to medical reasons, please notify the Director in writing and supply alternative sunscreen. THANK YOU!

Nate used his 'sense of taste' and

'sense of smell' to explore different aromatic, edible "paints" during a Creative Expression lesson. He tasted and smelled delicious blackberries before mashing them up to create a colorful... and yummy... masterpiece!

Erik filled his "basket" with treat-filled eggs during our annual Spring Egg Hunt on the Toddler Playground.

Remember to Register for

Summer Camp!

You will know that your child is age-eligible to enroll in Summer Camp when the Director hand-delivers you a Summer Camp Packet and offers you a tour of the Summer Camp Program!

We learned some new descriptive words as we talked about our sense of taste last month. Taleah tasted sweet

strawberries and salty

popcorn after listening to the story “What Can I... Taste?”

Language and literacy skills

flourished with our April theme,

"THE FIVE SENSES"

Ethan reached into the "Mystery Cube," using his 'sense of touch' to feel the different objects. We developed our expressive language skills as we

named and described the items in the cube.

Nikhil looked at the pictures in the book, “What Can I ...See?”, then he used his eyes to try to find some of

the same items in our school! Sarah practiced signing the word “egg”

(5)

We used all "FIVE SENSES" in

our artistic expression and

dramatic play in April

As we explored the "Five Senses," we took away one of our 'senses' and tried painting without using our eyesight! Nate learned how difficult it was to paint without seeing; he had to rely heavily on his other senses, and his imagination, to be successful! Kai celebrated the 'sense of touch' as he created a "texture collage," gluing several different types of textured materials (including pom poms, pipe cleaners, feathers, and more!) to a plain black "canvas." Rylee created a scented masterpiece, mixing and swirling "foam paint," and utilizing her senses of 'smell' and 'touch' with the cool, colorful foam. Chase used his 'sense of touch' to differentiate between the smooth petals, fuzzy stem, and crisp leaves as he created a flower to welcome the Spring season!

(6)

As we explored and experimented with our 'sense of sight,' Sabrina looked through a kaleidoscope. Dominick compared and contrasted different textured items, then

categorized them as "soft" or "rough" during a lesson in Early Logic.

Jai used his early logic skills, and his

'sense of touch,' to match the textures in the "texture puzzle" during 'center time.'

Miss Shannon guided the Toddlers to use all five senses to observe Rice Krispies! The cereal looked "tan and puffy," smelled

and tasted "yummy and sweet," felt "crunchy and dry", and

sounded like "snap, crackle, pop!"

Our April theme led us to

explore and discover the world

(7)

Can you see the wind blow? Louella held a scarf in the "wind" to observe the gentle breeze outside on our Toddler Playground!

Joseph used his 'sense of sight' to identify and find the "yellow" ball during a scavenger hunt in the Gym.

We sang, moved, and grooved while

using all "FIVE SENSES" in April!

Mrs. Willow and Julia used the rhythm sticks to tap out a tune as they sang a song about "The Five Senses."

Pranav chose the "bumpy" ball as we enjoyed a group game in the Gym. We used our 'sense of touch' as we rolled the big "bumpy" ball and the big "smooth" ball in

(8)

During an EQ lesson about giving to others, Mrs. Amber and Kyle placed books in the "Pajama and Picture Book Collection"

basket in the Atrium. Each Toddler took a turn choosing an appealing book or pair of jammies, then "giving it away" by

placing it in the basket.

Mrs. Tayna, Emily, and Jax used their 'sense of hearing' to listen to different types of music and discuss how each type made them feel. The quiet music made them feel calm and sleepy; the loud, fast music made them feel like dancing! As we explored our 'sense of touch," our Toddlers worked together to create a class "feely board." They took turns adding different textured items, such as feathers, tissue paper, rice, tape, etc. Norah carefully added some "crinkly" tin foil when it was

her turn.

We shared, cared, and worked

together as we explored

"THE FIVE SENSES" in April!

After talking about how flowers look and smell lovely, and make us feel happy too, Mrs. Martha and Stella took turns smelling some

After talking about how flowers look and smell lovely, and make us feel happy too, Mrs. Martha and Stella took turns smelling some

beautiful Spring tulips.

Shane explored the texture of jello during an Early Logic experience... it

felt cool and sticky! As we talked about things that feel "soft," Ellie chose to play with a soft and fuzzy stuffed frog.

Penelope cooed happily as she played with the "key ring" rattle. Paige used her 'sense of hearing' as she listened to the "ding" of the handbell during a Music activity.

Gabrielle enjoyed "tummy time" as

she played in the Infant Room. Nicholas used his senses of sight, smell, and touch to observe a spring blossom when the Infants took "a stroll" outdoors

in our big stroller! Brielle and Miss

Wendy felt the warm sunshine and gentle breeze as the babies took a walk around the playground!
