Hazardous waste and all recyclable waste are
accepted free of charge at the recycling centres.
For large‐sized combustible waste and landfill
waste a fee is charged at the recycling centre.
Everyday waste, such as food waste, packaging
from groceries, plastics, wet paper, textiles etc.
should be put in the property's container for
combustible waste. A waste transport company
empties the waste container at set intervals.
ABOUT BOTNIAROSK
Botniarosk is responsible for waste management
in Southern Ostrobothnia. The company Botnia‐
rosk is owned by eight municipalities: Isojoki,
Karijoki, Jurva (part of Kurikka), Kaskinen, Kauha‐
joki, Kristiinankaupunki, Närpes and Teuva.
Waste sor ng is an important part of waste man‐
agement in Botniarosk's area. Our primary goal is
to u lize all recyclable waste either as material
or energy.
Recyclable materials are sorted out by the resi‐
dents. This means that household glass packag‐
es, metal packages and paper are delivered to
the nearest ecopoint. Used batteries are deliv‐
ered to the nearest retail store.

There are about 100 ecopoints in Botniarosk's area, where glass packages, metal packages and paper are
accepted. At certain ecopoints there are also containers for charity gi s. It is forbidden to leave other
types of waste at the ecopoint. Everyone living in Botniarosk's area is free to use the ecopoints. The lo‐
ca ons can be found on our website www.botniarosk.fi and on www.kierratys.info. Glass, metal and pa‐
per is also accepted at the recycling centres.

There are eight recycling centres in Botniarosk's area where hazardous waste, electronics, household ap‐
pliances, metal, wood, pressure‐treated wood, bricks, concrete, glass, window glass, cardboard, garden
waste, and small amounts of asbestos are accepted free of charge from households during opening
hours. Large‐sized combus ble waste and landfill waste are accepted against a fee.
Companies, organiza ons, ins tu ons, municipali es, etc. must pay for all waste that they bring to the
recycling centres, with the excep on of paper, electronics and metal.

Every property must have containers for the daily household waste. Household waste is all types of waste
that is unsuitable for recycling but can be turned into energy by incinera on i.e. combus ble waste. All
proper es par cipate in the organized waste transport. The container for combus ble waste is emp ed
every two weeks during the summer and at least every four weeks during the winter. The owner of the
property signs a contract with a waste transport company for the emptying of the waste container.
The combus ble waste is transported to Westenergy in Mustasaari (near Vaasa). Westenergy is a waste‐
to‐energy plant that converts waste into electricity and hea ng used by the co‐opera on partner Vaasan
Sähkö Oy. One third of the district hea ng needed in the Vaasa region is produced in the plant.
