Bachelor of Science

The Bachelor of Science is a versatile degree that provides you with the optimal balance

between a defined sequence of study and flexible course options. With majors ranging

from Archaeological Science to Zoology, you will study an extensive range of courses

underpinned by cutting-edge research, and develop high levels of initiative, independent

thinking and communication skills.

This innovative program has been designed to develop graduates with the key practical

skills in a chosen discipline plus interdisciplinary knowledge required to address today’s

global challenges. Graduates will be qualified for employment opportunities in a wide array

of science and non-science industries.

In the Bachelor of Science, you will complete a specialisation – whether it be a major, an

Biotechnology

(Honours)

Biotechnology applies scientific and engineering principles to living organisms to produce products and services of value to society. It is used in processes ranging from cheese production, brewing, and wastewater management, through to drug design and gene therapy. This program focuses on developing skills relevant to industry as well as applied biotechnology research. It provides a strong scientific foundation and is taught by staff who are actively engaged in research. From second year on, you will be exposed to commercial and intellectual property concepts that are relevant and important in biotechnology. Eligible students will have the option to undertake additional research in the final year.

Technology

Food scientists and food technologists study the physical, microbiological and chemical makeup of food to improve taste, quality, appearance, nutritional value and food safety. Be part of this growing area of science. You will develop the skills for a career in this field, with opportunities to apply your knowledge in all stages of food production, from raw material harvesting until it reaches the consumer. You will examine the optimisation of food quality, quantity and processing, food safety and nutritional value, and the means of production, processing, preservation, distribution and use. This program prepares you for employment in technical and scientific food manufacturing industries and does not cover the domestic cooking, catering or hospitality fields.

This program prepares you to work as a veterinarian in the care and welfare of animals. You will learn how to apply medical, diagnostic, and therapeutic principles to the care of companion, domestic, exotic, wildlife, and production animals. Veterinary science is vital to the study and protection of animal production practices, herd health, and monitoring of the spread of diseases. Human health is protected by veterinary science working closely with many medical professionals to carefully monitor livestock health, and apply knowledge of epidemiology and emerging zoonotic diseases.

The Faculty of Business, Economics and Law offers a variety of undergraduate and

postgraduate programs which allow for a wide range of specialisation with a high degree of

The Bachelor of Commerce program prepares you for a career in accounting, banking,

financial management, information systems and management.

Compulsory courses in the degree build a solid foundation of business skills that you will apply

to many decisions and issues in the contemporary business environment. These core skills are

then further developed in your second and third years as you specialise by undertaking one or

two majors. Commerce majors are in accounting, business information systems and finance.

This program prepares you to be a leader in the planning field and to improve the quality of life in cities and regions. Much focus is on sustainability with key planning elements centred around the topics of land-use planning, urban design, economic development, planning practice, infrastructure planning, resource management, and planning law. The program emphasises applying planning theory and developing skills through project work that varies in complexity from simple, small-scale projects to comprehensive development schemes, often in conjunction with local authorities and community organisations.

Major – Clinical and Experimental Therapeutics

We offer a major in Clinical and Experimental Therapeutics within the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours), which allows students to complete a

research project while graduating with honours at the end of the 4-year degree.

The Clinical and Experimental Therapeutics major caters for graduates who wish to pursue a research-focused career in their future practice

in hospital pharmacy, in the pharmaceutical industry, research institutes or in academia. The major allows students to undertake a research

project under the guidance of an experienced researcher. Projects may be in any area of research that is currently being conducted within the

School of Pharmacy.

Students conduct a review of the literature, learn how to design their experiments, conduct their research, and write up their results in the

form of a research paper. Students also present their research findings to academics in the School of Pharmacy.
