RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
2019 – Present Graduate Student Teaching Assistant
The University of Texas at Austin, Austin, Texas
Education, Innovation, & Research (EIR) Grant, Austin, Texas
I support yearly grant implementation in collaboration with the UT Austin
Department of Curriculum and Instruction and Austin Independent School District. 2014 – 2015 Action Research Fellow
Chicago Teachers Foundation, Chicago, Illinois
I conducted action research under the mentorship of Dr. Sue Hansen using qualitative and quantitative research methods. I investigated what happens in my preschool classroom when I emphasize Spanish oral language development, and found that as my students’ oracy developed, their writing and peer social interactions
improved.
2010 – 2011 Undergraduate Senior Thesis
Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois Latina/o Studies Program
Under the direction of Dr. Geraldo Cadava, I used quantitative and qualitative
methods to write my senior thesis. I researched how student-teacher relationships and school attachment influence Latinx youth’s perceived aspirations and expectations for attending college; and how they vary by ethnicity/national origin, immigrant
generation, and gender.
2010 Undergraduate Research Fellow
Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island
Summer Research Early Identification Leadership Alliance Program
I analyzed quantitative data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health under the direction of Dr. Deborah Rivas-Drake, wrote a research proposal,
and presented findings on educational aspirations and expectations of Latinx youth to attend college.
2009 Undergraduate Research Fellow
University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois
Mellon Mays Summer Research Training Program
I developed a research proposal and literature review that explored how constructed ideas of success differ amongst students, teachers, parents and administrators. I argued that academic tracks have been misunderstood as naturally occurring rather than socially constructed within the school system.
