IFC Splicing Shelf

The FibrBoss product line of rack mounted fiber management equipment offers a modular system that reliably and economically manages fiber in fiber distribution frames.

The IS (IFC splicing shelf) component offers a controlled, easy access, high capacity splicing sub-rack. The sub-rack* holds up to 288 single-fusion splices on standard FOSC trays.

This system utilizes the same proven fiberrouting procedures found in the FOSC 400 product line of splice closures. The result is consistent, high quality fiber manage-ment throughout the network.

By installing each cable element (loose buffer tube or ribbon) onto its own splice tray disruption of active fibers on other trays is eliminated. A slack storage area also ensures that sufficient fiber is accessible in the event of accidental damage.

Tray Patching Shelf

Tyco Electronics’ two fiber management systems — FibrBoss FX for front patching and FibrBoss TX for tray patching — complement each other with a consistent, simple modular approach. Together they create a family of cross-functional solutions for the distribution of fiber optic cables in all industries and for all applications.

The FibrBoss TX system of tray patching utilizes the same proven fiber routing proce-dures found in the FOSC 400 product line of closures. The result is consistent, high quality fiber management throughout the network.

The TX family of tray patching components offers a controlled, easy access, high capacity patching sub-rack. The sub-racks* hold up to 72 connectors on six trays. Each tray can accommodate 12 jumpers or connectorized pigtails. Connectorized IFC cables can be field installed or pre-terminated in the factory. The sub-rack permits field termination of cables by splicing and storing short 900 micron pigtails directly on the tray. A splice storage area ensures that all fibers remain active in the network, even when a connector becomes damaged.

* The 72 connector shelf unit is 5” tall, the 48 connector shelf is 3.3” tall, and the 24 connector shelf is 1.8” tall. All shelves fit both 19” and 23” frames.

Cable Retainers

The first to maintain the system’s total cable lay-in cabability, these Cable Retainers are specifically designed to fit within the Lightrax Channels. Inserted every 12”, these retainers hold fibers within the channel during service and maintenance - a true necessity for vertical runs.

Mounting Kits

Channels and Fittings are supported by two basic methods: direct mounting to existing supports or installation of Lightrax Rail or Support Strut. The Lightrax system has been designed to be supported every two feet. To do this easily and at minimum cost, direct mounting kits are available for attachment to existing ladder racking, equipment racks, auxiliary framing or digital cableway. When there are no existing supports, Lightrax Support Rails or Support Strut may be installed in lengths up to 10 feet.

Caution Labels

Fiber Optic Caution Labels are available to users to iden-tify and highlight system components.

Lightrax Rivet

Lightrax Rivets allow users to connect Channels and Fittings without the use of any tools. The two identical halves are simply pushed together to form a smooth head rivet.

Lightrax Rail

The custom-designed Lightrax Rail provides 100% horizontal support for two 2”x2” Channels, one 4”x4” Channel or one 4”x8” Channel. The continuous threaded nut of the Lightrax Rail reduces installation labor by elim-inating the need for multiple mounting brackets, nuts, washers and rivets.

MOUNTING KITS

Channels and Fittings are supported by utilizing two basic methods: direct mounting to existing

supports or installation of Lightrax Rail or Support Strut. The Lightrax system has been designed to be

supported every three feet. When there are no existing supports, Lightrax Support Rail or Support Strut

may be installed in lengths up to 10 feet. The custom designed Lightrax Rail provides 100% horizontal

support for two 2”x2” Channels, one 4”x4” Channel or one 4”x8” Channel.

CHANNELS AND FITTINGS

Channels and Fittings are available in three cross-sectional sizes: 2”x2”, 4”x4” and 4”x8”. The 2”x2”

components will hold up to 200 3 mm diameter patch cords, while the 4”x4” and 4”x8”

components will accommodate 800 and 1600 patch cords respectively. Channel covers are snapped in

place. Fitting covers are easily positioned on matching Velcro. Channels and Fittings are slipped

together, end-to-end, and secured in position with bolts or rivets.

Square-To-Round Adapter (Flex Tubing)

Molded adapters provide transition from 2”x2” Lightrax Channel to 1.5” round flexible tubing. The adapter and the split-wall tubing are held together with a “C”-shaped Retaining Ring, maintaining the cable lay-in feature.

Slotted Channel

Slotted Channel is available for vertical and horizontal runs. The wide slots are used to drop off and distribute fibers along the length of a straight section.

Slotted Channel Trumpet

This unique accessory is an industry first. Designed to simply snap into the slots, the trumpet provides bend radius control for fibers exiting a section of vertical or horizontal slotted channel.

Channels & Fittings

Channels and Fittings are available in 3 cross-sectional sizes: 2”x2”, 4”x4” and 4”x8” components that will accommodate 800 and 1600 patch cords respectively. All system com-ponents are designed to provide cable lay-in capability, eliminating the need for pulling cables through an enclosed system during installa-tion or cable retrieval. Channel covers are snapped in place. Fitting covers are easily positioned on matching Velcro. Channels and Fittings are slipped together, end-to-end, and held in position with bolts or rivets.

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

The Lightrax Fiber Optic Raceway System is a fully enclosed ducting system that

segregates, routes and protects fiber optic cables and jumpers from point of building

entry to fiber termination and distribution equipment. The separation from twisted pair

and coax cables and the convenient lay-in design provide for easy tracing and access as

well as protection from being snagged, crimped or overly stressed. The system’s

modular design and extensive mounting kit selection enable the project engineer to meet cable

capacity requirements and future expansion needs using existing superstructure, cable

racking and/or equipment racking. All Lightrax system components are made of

high-impact thermoplastic with a UL94V-0 flammability rating.

The FibrBoss CB04 platform provides a compact, low profile fiber management system for transitioning outside plant cable to inside cable and connectorized assemblies.

The design incorporates a hinging splice tray that is based on proven fiber routing procedures found in the CB12, CB24, CB48, and FOSC 400 produce line of closures. The CB04 system provides environmen-tal and mechanical protection for both fibers and components. The result is consistent, high quality fiber management while maintain-ing access to the fibers.

The compact size of the CB04 platform offers a space saving design intended for wall mounting applications inside the customer's prem -ises. Robust fiber management in these less demanding areas ensures the integrity of the fiber throughout the network. The CB04 platform provides a rugged termination point for safely splicing and patching customers into the network.

3M Universal Optical Splice Enclosures (MV) are designed to manage the transition between outside plant cables and fire-retardant indoor riser cables in fiber optic networks with flexibility in mind. An adjustable interior backplate and removable cable entry plates accommodate top-only, bottom-only or top and bottom cable entries. Each Universal MV features a full range of cababilities for wall, 23-inch rack and T-slot mounting. 3M offers two versions of the Universal MV. Optical Splice Closures

The 144 and 288 Single Fusion Optical Splice Closures provide a compact and secure location for splicing and termination of up to 144 and 288 fibers. The Optical Splice Closures are also available in Mass Fusion which accommodates 432 and 864 fibers. All Optical Splice Closures are constructed of lightweight aluminum, sealed for protection from directional water spray and dust. The 144OSC and 288OSC express fiber and tandem mounting capabilities with field-reversible lift-off doors and removable cable inlet modules for ease of cable installation. Also, both have Pass-Thru fiber capabilities and door lock options. The 144OSC has flexible four-sided cable access and space efficient 16” x 16” x 9” closure with flush or offset wall mounting and a Sidekick termination module. The 288OSC has flexible top/bottom or left/right cable access and space effiicient 21”x 21”x 9” closure with versatile mount options: 23” rack, unistrut, flush or offset wall mounting.

This unique swivel partition between the two chambers provides easy access to all couplings.
