1 Overview
The BroadSoft Learning Center Certification Program allows Customers to master the technologies and practices needed to sell, install, maintain, and administrate BroadWorks solutions. BroadWorks certifications are classroom-based, instructor-led courses available at locations around the world and on customer sites. The BroadSoft Learning Center offers certifications in Engineering, Operations, Product Management, Sales Engineering, and Sales, as well as specializations in UC-One, Enterprise Portal, IMS, Trunking, Mobility, and Contact Center.
Our instructor-led training blends personal delivery, hands-on experience, and student participation to create a rich learning environment. BroadWorks Certification provides a professionally equipped training environment with dedicated BroadWorks platform access, customer premise equipment, and software applications engineered specifically for students. Our centers are capable of hosting up to 15 students simultaneously. Class time is divided into both lectures and with an emphasis on practical applications. Individual attention and student/peer interaction, in conjunction with BroadWorks certified instructors, help create a student environment rich in content, perspective and on-demand answers.
BroadSoft's training department offers our full curriculum of certifications year-round at our headquarters classroom, which is located in Gaithersburg, MD USA, as well as offering selected certifications at other world-wide facilities. Our training and certification tracks are broken down into two areas – Foundations and Solutions. Foundations courses are meant to give students a fundamental knowledge of BroadWorks. Solutions courses are additional courses that give expertise in a specific area, such as UC-One Communicator or Business Trunking, among others.
1.1 Engineering Track
The BroadWorks Learning Center Engineering Foundations Track consists of the following distinctions:
• BroadWorks Certified Network Engineer – Specialist • BroadWorks Certified Operations Engineer – Professional • BroadWorks Certified Operations Engineer – Specialist
While each learner in both the Engineer and Operations courses will take the same class, the differing certifications are dependent on the testing. Learners will be tested on different objectives based on their enrolled track.
The BroadWorks Certified Engineering Track program is designed to ensure Customer’s users have the knowledge and skills to successfully implement and support BroadWorks integration and scaling in the network.
1.1.1 Introduction to BroadWorks Engineer Track
This e-Learning, content on demand module must be reviewed by the candidate prior to attending the BroadWorks Engineer or Operations Professional course. Candidates that have not validated their completion of this e-Learning prerequisite will not be permitted to begin their BroadWorks Certified Engineering Professional or BroadWorks Certified Operations Professional courses. This e-Learning provides a summary corporate overview of BroadSoft, the BroadWorks solutions, as well as important details about the certification track program and the methods and process used during its administration.
1.1.2 BroadWorks Certified Engineer – Professional Standalone Course or BroadWorks Certified Operations – Professional Standalone Course
The course represents the first stage to achieving certification as a BroadWorks Certified Engineer. It is designed to present the certification candidate with a baseline level of information with supporting exercises within the BroadWorks Professional course. The overall objective is to engage the student with concepts and facts that provide a solid baseline understanding of the basic role and function of each BroadWorks server within a stand-alone implementation of a BroadWorks network.
Special emphasis will be given to BroadWorks servers that represent the bare minimum functionality to achieve basic service delivery (Application Server, Network Server, Xtended Services Platform, Profile Server, and Media Server).
Furthermore, it provides emphasis on the founding principles of troubleshooting a BroadWorks network with an overall objective of tooling the engineer with the analytical thinking skills and tools to effectively resolve common and repeatable issues.
To reach this goal, the following instructor led training modules are focused on during the 5 day training course.
Pre-Requisites
The attendees should possess the following: • A basic level of knowledge in Unix/Linux. • A basic level of knowledge in Telephony. • A basic level of knowledge in IP networking.

Outcomes
Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to:
• Properly place the BroadWorks servers into the VoIP network
• Create Enterprises, Groups, and Users for operation on the BroadWorks platform • Prove by validation testing that Users are operationally working (Making various calls) • Configure the Application Server desired billing formats and the delivery mechanisms
for mediation server dialog
• Create translation profiles which contain policy logic for purposes of establishing the rules of processing the requests to the BroadWorks Network redirect server
• They will prove their configuration accuracy by use of the VTR tool
• Apply troubleshooting best practices that can be universally applied to many encountered problem scenarios
• Will develop analytical thinking skills for purposes of determining the best
BroadWorks architecture solution including but not limited to the AS, NS, MS, XSP, PS and optionally DBS/NDS, WRS, EMS, NFM, UMS, USS, UVS
1.1.3 BroadWorks Certified Engineer – Professional with IMS Course or BroadWorks Certified Operations – Professional with IMS Course
The course represents the first stage to achieving certification as a BroadWorks IMS Certified Engineer. It is designed to present the certification candidate with a baseline level of
information with supporting exercises within the BroadWorks IMS Professional course. The overall objective is to engage the student with concepts and facts that provide a solid baseline understanding of the basic role and function of each BroadWorks server within a IMS implementation of a BroadWorks network.
Special emphasis will be given to BroadWorks servers that represent the bare minimum functionality to achieve basic service delivery (Application Server, Network Server, Xtended Services Platform, Profile Server, and Media Server).

Outcomes
Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to:
• Explain the BroadWorks Application Server role in IMS architecture.
• Accurately explain the BroadWorks servers involve in performing Telephony Application Server (TAS) in IMS
• Accurately explain the call-flows for various call scenarios
• Provision IMS subscriber and successfully make a call from these newly provisioned subscribers.
• Explain the Application Server for Diameter interfaces communicating with billing servers and HSS.
• Create translation profiles which contain policy logic for purposes of establishing the rules of processing the requests to the BroadWorks Network redirect server. Students will achieve this by assembling the variables (call types, policy instances, profiles, dial plan entries). They will prove their configuration accuracy by use of the VTR tool. • Apply troubleshooting best practices that can be universally applied to many
encountered problem scenarios.
• Will develop analytical thinking skills for purposes of determining the best
BroadWorks architecture solution including but not limited to the AS, NS, MS, XSP, PS and optionally DBS/NDS, WRS, EMS, NFM, UMS, USS, UVS.
1.1.4 BroadWorks Certified Engineer – Specialist Course or BroadWorks Certified Operations - Specialist
This course represents the second and final stage to achieving certification as a BroadWorks Certified Engineer.
It is designed to present the certification candidate with a more detailed level of information with supporting exercises within the BroadWorks Specialist course.
The overall objective is to expand the learning experience to include ancillary (optional) server technologies (be it BroadWorks or 3rd party vendor) and engage the student with concepts and facts that provide a more technically detailed and complete view of the role and
function of all BroadWorks servers within a stand-alone implementation of a BroadWorks network.
Furthermore, it provides emphasis on the support requirements to maintaining high availability of service in the network and resulting subscribers by focusing on fraud management and service hardening best practices.
To reach this goal, the following instructor led training modules are focused on during the 8 day training course.
Pre-Requisites
In order to enroll in BroadWorks Certified Engineering Professional, students must have taken and become successfully certified in either BroadWorks Certified Engineering Professional Standalone or BroadWorks Certified Engineering Professional with IMS.

Outcomes
Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to:
• Understand the BroadWorks dimensioning recommendations to design the core network for virtualized networks so that operations and provisioned services will have the resources to operate and scale correctly.
• Apply Network Function Manager skills and knowledge to follow method of procedures to perform licensing assignments to a BroadWorks virtual machine accurately.
• Will develop analytical thinking skills for purposes of determining the best or correct solution to a variety of BroadWorks servers (AS, NS, MS, XSP, CDS, PS, WebRTC (RS), EMS, UMS, USS, UVS) and commonly seen vendor server solutions including but not limited to Session Border Controllers, Class-4 softswitches / PSTN gateways. • Will have developed the necessary skills requirements for managing a Network
Server’s dial plans and originating and terminating policies for advanced redirect server configuration and validation.
• Will have developed the necessary skills required to support customer premise device configuration and service presentation under the auspices of BroadWorks Device Management.
• Apply troubleshooting best practices that can be applied to prevent, detect, analyze and resolve encountered security and fraud problem scenarios. Furthermore, troubleshooting skills will be provided for analyzing Application Server call service
processing to facilitate accurate determinations of prioritizations during call service interactions.
• Determine the design and server configuration requirements to ready the
BroadWorks network for Unified Communications including but not limited to desktop sharing, audio/video collaboration and presence.
• Pull reports from the BroadWorks Element Management Server for license utilization. Additionally, the ability to effectively use features that allow for centralized software management, User Migrations, and SNMP event tracking.
• Will be able to configure the Xtended Services Platform (XSP) for support (or end of support) of the most commonly used access side applications that require http or XSI dialogs such as UC-One Business Communicator, Receptionist and Device
Management.
1.2 Business Track
The BroadWorks Learning Center Business Foundations Track consists of the following distinctions:

The course targets Sales Professionals and Product Managers who want to gain knowledge on solutions available in the BroadWorks portfolio.
It is designed to present the certification candidate with services based information and supporting exercises with an overall objective to engage the candidate with learning and understanding BroadWorks Solutions, Best Current Practices and Tools that provide knowledge in determining the proper BroadWorks Service Solution for a given BroadWorks deployment. This learned knowledge in matching a given solution is based on examining actual Case Studies and Customer stated needs.

Attendees should have:
• Experience in customer facing services-based discussions and planning • Fluent comprehension in spoken and written English
• Experience in, and comprehension of common industry terms used within the Sales, Sales Engineering and Product Management fields

1.4 Fast Track
Students who believe they already have the necessary training or who may have received training via our previous program may enroll in Fast Track, allowing them to bypass taking courses and move directly to their certification.
2 Job Description and Functions
2.1 Engineer Track
2.1.1 Network Engineer
Responsibilities:
• Experience with Session Border Controllers and SIP
• Possesses a broad and thorough technical understanding and have experience in designing, configuring, implementing & testing, troubleshooting and supporting critical network environments that consist of multi-vendor Routers, Switches, VoIP, Firewall & Network Security
• Hands-on experience designing and configuring various routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, EIGRP IGRP, HSRP, RIPv1 & RIPv2
• Hands-on experience with complex QoS and VLAN configurations and designs • Micro level technical project management for engineering requirements and
responsibilities
• Design and deploy state-of-art technology to meet the customer’s business needs • Interface to the project management team regarding technical planning and network
issues
• Develop white papers for designs specific to the service network inclusive and relational to BroadWorks solutions
• Matrix manage engineering resources in other parts of the organization as needed. (Manage across research, production, sales, finance)
• Hands-on experience with Voice Switching technologies including Legacy TDM and Softswitch technologies
• Monitoring overall performance of the internal and cloud infrastructure networks
2.1.2 Operations Engineer
Responsibilities:
• Proactively alert and respond if VoIP network infrastructure is not meeting performance metrics
• Work with the Help Desk, Service Delivery, Audit/Quality Control teams to identify and manage planned activities
• Ensure Incident and Change Control documentation is accurate and complete • Provisioning for new and existing customers to the services network
• Follow provisioning management processes and practices • Trend for capacity planning in the network
• Monitor performance of network and voice environments to identify potential problems and bottlenecks
• Diagnose and resolve problems as needed by analyzing network traffic captures • Communicate departmental needs to other departments (network engineering,
marketing, support)
• Develop, document and test disaster recovery procedures for the environments supported
2.2 Business Track
2.2.1 Sales Engineering
Responsibilities:
• Work with account management team(s) to develop and sell technical merits of BroadWorks solution to new or strategic accounts
• Provide technical guidance and support to the established sales organization, acting as a lead BroadWorks subject matter expert
• Interfaces with customers to determine short and long-term technical requirements • Assists in the design and integration of BroadWorks voice and data network
solutions for customers, including preparation of network topologies and technical specifications
• Develop relationships with key technical decision makers throughout the sales cycle and look to influence the selection process
• Work with Sales, Customer Service, and Operations to ensure each customer’s expectations are met
• Keep up to date with movements in BroadWorks technology • Help sales respond to RFIs and RFPs
• May conduct customer site readiness surveys (as required) to insure successful installation of BroadWorks services
• Provide and/or participate in in-house/web product demonstrations for potential customers

2.2.2 Sales
Responsibilities:
• Determines annual unit and gross-profit plans by implementing marketing strategies; analyzing trends and results.

5 How to Enroll
To enroll in a course, go to training.broadsoft.com.
Once you click “register here,” a popup will appear asking you to fill out your information for
registration.
After completing registration, you will be taken to your dashboard. Once you’re fully enrolled in courses, this is where your courses will appear, allowing you to click through and view your course dates and percentages of completion.
Prior to enrollment in courses, you will need to submit a purchase order (PO) to BroadSoft for payment for your certification. Once the PO is completed, you will receive an enrollment code, allowing you to register for your selected course.
To enter your enrollment code, go to your dashboard. In the bottom right hand corner you will see a field marked “Enrollment Code.” Copy the enrollment code you received after
completing your PO into this box and click “Confirm.”
A green notification will appear above your “Course” console notifying you that you have been successfully enrolled. If you do not receive this notification, please notify the Learning Center.
Refreshing your screen at this point will bring up your enrolled courses in the center console of your dashboard.
Once you see your course on your dashboard, you can click the course to select your session. Since our courses are Instructor Led Training (ILT), we offer a variety of courses around the world and it is up to you to select the location and dates that work best for you. Once you have decided which course you’d like to enroll in, click the black circle that appears next to your selected session. A check mark should appear inside the circle.
To confirm your enrollment in the session, click the green “Confirm” button that appears at the bottom of your screen.
Please note, in order for you to attend a course, you must go through the session selection process. You will not be able to take the course if you show up to the course location without having first enrolled in the session.
Once you have selected your session, you are fully enrolled and ready to take your certification course!
