Volume 24 Issue 6

On a more personal level, I would like to thank everyone who is helping me on my issues with my 05 GTO. I’m used to being the one of the guys going out and helping someone else with their Goats, now the shoe is on the other foot! With any luck it will be up and running soon with the help of Doug Warble and his years of experience with GM mechanics and electronics.

Also, thanks to Alan Haynes for the “loaner” GTO for the trip to Gary Cave’s. Both his cars got dirty that day just so I could enjoy some seat time. Friends like this is what makes this hob-by great! It has helped keep up morale as some-thing seemingly simple gets complicated to fix

Memorial Day is here and gone already, and so be-gins another summer season. It seems like Mother Nature isn’t quite ready to cooperate with com-pletely dry weekends, but we do seem to be having more dry time overall, now we just need it to hap-pen on the weekend instead of during the work week! Rain still seems to weasel in at some point during the weekend hours. Mostly when I am get-ting ready to leave for a car show or mow the lawn! Let’s hope this season dries out and we get more time in the hot rods than last year.

We have already had 2 great events to kick off the 2019 season in the rear-view mirror, with more on deck as we move into June. Perennial favorite LCBC show is up first on June 8th, just ahead of the June club meeting on the 9that the Hillside Café. Father’s Day weekend (June 15/16th) a new but familiar old show returns to York: the York U.S. 30 Reunion show is returning to York but better than ever, because it’s being held at the spot that made it famous! That’s right, the show will now be held at the York Airport in conjunction with their air show. This should make for a great atmosphere! Later in the month (June 25th– 30th) brings the 2019 edition of the GTOAA Convention in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Just outside Cincinnati, Ohio, it’s a manageable drive with about the same travel time as Norwalk for anyone who has made the trek to the Tri-Power Nationals. More info will be emailed in the coming weeks on all these events. There’s lots more on tap as we cruise through the busy summer months, stay tuned! We would like to extend a big thank you to Ralph & Doug Moyer for their hospitality. They are always eager to help the club, and once again they opened their doors for a rare behind the scenes shop tour just for our club members. You’ll read about that in this issue from VP Mike. We are truly grateful for all Ralph and Doug do for us!

Meeting Notes: 05/18/2019 The May meeting was held at the conclusion of the REM tour.

SVGTO would like to thank Ralph and Doug Moyer for their hospitality in opening up their facility for the tour, and providing the space for the meeting and for lunch.

There we 34 members and friends in attendance for the tour/meeting, so I will skip the usual role call for this month. May’s meeting was a brief overview of club activities.

VP Mike Gettys chaired the meeting as Brian was unable to attend.

Treasurer Bob Krewson presented the Treasurers report.

The cookout for RMHC is scheduled for July 21st . Anyone wishing to volunteer to help with meal prep is invited to join in and lend a hand. Meal prep starts around 3pm.

Preparations are ongoing for the annual SVGTO/ERC show in August. If you plan on attending, please pre register through the club website or by mail.

Registration form is attached to this newsletter.

Mecum 2019

Thank you to everyone who has replied already with your interest and availability for Mecum Harrisburg 2019! This is the last call for anyone who hasn’t re-sponded yet. Please let us know soon! Harold at Mecum would like to know our volunteer numbers soon so they can get badges and parking passes in the works. This will allow time so we have them in plenty of time to hand them out. Because of this we will be closing sign up early next week so we can get final tally in to Harold by the end of May as he requested. We are looking good on the numbers for each day even with the extra day added in. If you are not sure exactly which days you can help at this time, that is quite OK. At this point we just need to know that you are interested in attend-ing. You can let us know what days and any time con-straints closer to the event. Thank you all for your help with this event!

Spring Kick Off Cruise

April 14thbegan like most of the car show season last year: RAINY! Regardless of the gloomy weather, there were almost a dozen Pontiacs gathered at our meet up spot ready to cruise to Gary Cave’s spring open house and swap meet. We decided to forgo the “scenic” part of the cruise to Gary’s for a more direct route. The gloomy day wasn’t letting us see much except for fog anyway! Anyone who has ever visited Gary’s knows it’s a chance not to be missed. There are always new things to see, and some really cool and unusual GTO’s in very rare combinations and even some in special order col-ors. Every year GTO is represented in the upstairs show-room. There were also several vendors there selling parts, so there was something for everyone. We saw lots of familiar faces and some new ones. Gary is still restoring his collection at a quick pace and it continues to get even more impressive and diverse. I always learn something new every time we go! After visiting with Gary and many other friends of SVGTO for a few hours, we headed off to the nearby Ski Roundtop resort for lunch at their restaurant Eagle & the Owl and a brief April club meeting. Special thanks to Gary for having events like this to bring the

Pontiac faithful together! See some pictures from Gary’s on page 5.

REM Tour Wrap up

On May 18thSVGTO had a cruise to REM in Annville, PA to tour their manufacturing facility. For those of you that don’t know REM manufactures many different products and interior soft goods for GM, Ford and Chrysler cars and trucks. REM was founded by Ralph Moyer and is currently owed by his son Doug Moyer. Ralph and Doug are both members of SVGTO.

We started the day by meeting in REM’s parking lot and everyone had a chance to look over and enjoy all the members Pontiacs beforehand since it was not actually raining that day. We started the tour in their breakroom with Ralph telling us a brief history of how the company was started and how everything progressed to where it is today. He also answered the numerous questions we had. We then started the tour in the manufacturing ar-ea and were given explanations of the equipment and machinery used to manufacture and assemble their nu-merous products. Ralph and Doug also gave us some insight to the many challenges and issues they face in getting high quality accurate reproduction parts to the market. We were also given a couple of machine demonstrations by two of their employees who were gracious enough to come in on their day off. They showed us the operation of several CNC cutting ma-chines which cut out trunk mats and jute padding. We then finished the tour in their warehouse/shipping area where we saw numerous pallets of goodies ready to ship to Classic Industries, OPGI, and Ames Performance to name a few.

We finished the day with a brief meeting in the break-room followed by pizza for lunch. The Moyer’s also pro-vided everyone who attended with a carry bag with the club’s logo on it that was made right in their facility. Really cool!! I think it is safe to say that everyone who attended came away impressed with REM’s facility and manufacturing processes and the knowledge and pas-sion that Ralph and Doug have. I want to personally thank Ralph and Doug for their hospitality and gracious-ness that day and all that they do for SVGTO.

Hello Gang,

It is with a heavy heart we inform you of the passing of a former SVGTO member. John Whooley passed away this past Saturday. He was a regular at our show in August just about every year with his extremely clean black 2001 Trans Am. For anyone who knew him you know he was a character and was always fun to have around. He will be missed
