ROLE PROFILE

Role title Clinical Engineering Technician

Location Netcare Pholoso Hospital (Polokwane)

Reporting structure Directly reports to the Technical Manager.

Closing date 20 September 2017

ROLE SUMMARY

The Clinical Engineering Technician is responsible for the management and maintenance of all medical equipment as per the manufacturer’s specifications and Health Technology Regulations.

KEY WORK OUTPUT AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Medical equipment management

• Responsible for the management of all medical equipment.

• Implement and maintain the CMMS (SAP PM) for all medical equipment.

• Manage and maintain medical equipment installed base for CAPEX, rentals, demo and loan equipment on the CMMS.

• Plan and execute timely equipment services, via the CMMS, to comply with manufacturer specifications, ECRI and/or Health Technology Regulations, in line with Netcare Technical recommendations.

• Acceptance of service certificates from contractors, including but not limited to ensuring data is completed correctly at the correct intervals of service, National service level agreements are adhered to, and follow-up repairs are planned and prioritised.

• Ensure results of all maintenance (reactive and preventive maintenance) are captured accurately on the CMMS. These entries should reflect spares used, labour involved, associated costs, tasks performed/actions taken and persons/suppliers involved – in accordance with Netcare Technical requirements.

• Ensure commissioning tests are performed prior to acceptance of new, demo and/or loan equipment, maintaining the necessary documentation as proof of this.

• Ensure all (new) medical equipment is barcoded in line with Netcare Technical’s recommendations, and maintained on the CMMS.

• Conduct six monthly equipment audits to ensure CMMS database accuracy, and ensure results of these audits are kept on file.

• Compile medical equipment replacement schedule (5 year plan) and obtain business approval from Hospital General Manager, in the absence of a Clinical Engineering Manager.

• Purchase and motivate for the purchasing of medical equipment.

• Implement policies and procedures as directed by Netcare Technical Division.

• Liaise with suppliers to schedule preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance. • Obtain required quotes for capital medical equipment purchases and maintenance work. • Ensure financial control through proper budgeting and control of outsourced services.

• Perform repairs, modifications and installations on equipment according to procedures that comply with the standards and recommendations of the manufacturers and/or governing agencies.

• Use medical test equipment to perform inspections and diagnose equipment failure where possible. • Perform maintenance tasks as stipulated in “Equipment Type Skills Assessment TGL v1.1”.

• Request and assist with the completion of incident reports on damage to clinical equipment and ensure documentation required for replacement is in place.

• Investigate and report on sentinel events with recommendations (to TSM).

Training and Development

• Interact and train all staff regarding medical equipment to familiarise users with medical equipment. • Provide training and mentorship of all CETAs and student CETAs.

• Function as Line Manager to CETAs, in the absence of a CEM.

Reporting

• Report on medical equipment to the Clinical Engineering Manager and or Technical Services Manager. • Provide CMMS reporting on medical equipment.

• Provide MyMarket reporting on medical equipment.

• Develop and maintain trends of equipment failure and report to Netcare Technical Division, in the • absence of a Clinical Engineering Manager.

• Where applicable, evaluate National projects implemented, and provide status reports to Netcare Technical Division.

Stakeholder Relationship management

• Interact with Clinical Engineering Technician Assistants (CETAs) on technical and financial issues related to medical equipment.

• Liaise with medical equipment suppliers to stay informed and trained in latest technological developments. • Interact with Hospital Management , Ward and Theatre Managers on a regular basis, in the absence of a

Clinical Engineering Manager, addressing issues including but not limited to status of repairs, planned services, incidents, repair costs and capital equipment purchase.

SKILLS PROFILE

EDUCATION • National Diploma in Electrical Engineering at NQF level 6.

• Eligible for professional registration as a Technician at the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA). WORK EXPERIENCE

• 1 year experience in maintenance and management of medical equipment in hospitals. KNOWLEDGE

• Intermediate computer literacy in MS Office.

• Familiar with the Occupational Health & Safety- and Health Act regulations. MANAGERIAL/SPECIALIST SKILLS
