Sections
• section: A portion of a document in which
you set certain page formatting options.
• You create a new section when you want
to change such properties as line
numbering, number of columns, or
headers and footers.
• to vary the layout of a document within a
page or between pages.
Section Break
• section break: A mark you insert to show the end of a section. A section break stores the section formatting elements, such as the margins, page orientation, headers and footers, and sequence of page numbers.
• Insert section break is to divide the document into sections, and then format each section the way you want
• For example, format a section as a single
column for the introduction of a report, and then format the following section as two columns for the report’s body text.
Types of Section Breaks you can insert
• The following examples show the types of section
breaks you can insert. (In each illustration, the double dotted line represents a section break.
1. Next page inserts a section break and starts the new
section on the next page.

2. Continuous inserts a section break and starts the new section on the same page .
3. Odd page or Even page inserts a section break and starts the new section on the next odd-numbered or even-numbered page.

• Page numbering • Line numbering

Steps to Insert a Section Break
1. Click where you want to insert a section
break
2. On the Insert menu, click Break
3. Under Section break types
،
click the
option that describes where you want the
new section to begin
4. After that you can go to each section and
format it the way you want

Steps to Delete a Section Break
1. Select the section break you want to
delete.
2. Press DELETE.

Keep in mind that a section break
controls the section formatting of the text
that precedes it. For example, if you
delete a section break, the preceding text
becomes part of the following section
and assumes its section formatting
Keep an eye on your Section Breaks
• If you're in print layout view or outline view and don't see the section break, display hidden text by clicking
Show/Hide on the Standard toolbar
• Or check out your document in normal view, where section breaks always appear across the entire page. • And, you can always check out the status bar at the
bottom of your Word window to confirm the section
you're currently working in or the number of sections in your document.

Steps to Delete a Section Break
To see the section
breaks mark from the view menu choose normal view
Select the section break you wanted to delete and press

Change the Type of Section Break
1. Click in the section you want to change .
2. On the File menu, click Page Setup

and
then click the Layout tab .
3. In the Section start box, click the option
that describes where you want the
current section to begin .
Change the Type of Section Break
To change the location ,where the section starts:
from the page setup choose layout and from the section start menu select the new location
Copy Formatting from one Section to another
• To copy section formatting (such as margin settings and newsletter-style columns).
• first switch to normal view.
• Then, select the section break at the end of the section with the formats you want to copy.
• Next, copy the section break to a new location; the text above the new section break takes on its formatting.
Copy Formatting from one Section to another
To copy the format of this section select the section break mark, when you are in the normal view then right click
→copy Past it in the new location
Here the format of the docoment above the section break will be the
same as of the copied section
Section formatting
• To apply margins, Page Orientation, and Page
Border for each section:
1. Edit → Go to → Section: write the number of
section
2. To apply Margins:
A. File → Page Setup → Margins. B. Apply to: This Section.
3. To apply Page Orientation:
A. File→ Page Setup → Margins.
B. Orientation: Portrait and Landscape C. Apply to: This Section.
4. To apply Page Border:
A. Format → Borders and Shading → Page Border. B. Apply to: This Section.

5. To apply Header and Footer:
A. View → Header and footer
B. Write/insert your information in the header C. Use toolbar to switch to the footer
D. Write/insert your information
E. Use toolbar to switch to the next section F. Switch off “Same as previous”
- Word's default is to connect all the Headers and footers in the document so they are all the same. It does this by using the Same as the Previous command. It is
important to turn OFF the Same as Previous option FIRST before you make any other changes.
6. Go to step 1, to select the next section.

section 1 you must turn off the
“same as previous ” command
Clicking in the button “link to previous ” at the header and footer toolbar will switch off the “same as previous” command

• Open a blank document .
• Change your document view to Normal .
• Type the following :Title Page .
• Now choose Insert > Break .
• Choose Next Page Section Break .
• Type Table of Contents .
• Choose Insert > Break .
• Choose Next Page Section Break .
• Type Main document .

Practice2: Change Page Formats in Sections
1. Use the document you created in the practice1 .
2. Press CTRL+END to move to the end of your document. You should be in Section 3 .
3. Choose File > Page Setup >click Paper Size . 4. In the Orientation area, select Landscape . 5. Be sure that Apply to: says This Section .
• Warning If you do not apply the section break to "this section only" the whole document will be formatted in Landscape.
6. Click OK. The last page should now be landscape and the rest of the document should still be portrait .
7. Press CTRL+HOME to go to the top of the document . 8. Choose File > Page Setup >click Layout
9. In the Vertical alignment: section, select Center from the drop-down list .
10.Be sure that Apply to: says This Section .
11.Click OK. Your "TITLE PAGE" text should now be centered vertically .
12.Try changing margins in a specific section .

Practice3: Inserting a section break
• in order to see the solution of the training as a video you have to download and open the PowerPoint file called
“Sections-training-solution” and in the slide show process click the picture in the slide
