Come to PREP and discover, learn, grow, make new friends, prepare for high school, experience

college life, and explore possible careers.

WHAT IS PREP?

PREP is a mathematics-based, academic enrichment program. It emphasizes the development of abstract reasoning and problem solving skills. PREP helps students prepare for careers in the fields of mathematics, science, technology, and engineering. The program includes course work, team projects, class presentations, examinations, career awareness speakers, field trips, and special events. PREP is presented over the course of three summers. Students can reapply each year. High school elective credit is awarded by school districts for the successful completion of PREP.

Courses for Year 1- Logic and its Applications to Mathematics, Introduction to Engineering, Problem Solving, Career Awareness Seminars, Research and Study Time, and Special Events.

Courses for Year 2-Algebraic Structures, Introduction to Physics, Problem Solving, Research, Study Time, and Special Events. Course for Year 3-Probability and Statistics, Problem Solving, and Technical Writing

Course for Year 4 – Computer Science, Problem Solving, and Water Science

Who: 100 new middle and high school students from the Arlington/Fort Worth Area are expected to enroll. Members of minority groups are especially encouraged to apply.

When: June 13 – July 28, 2011 (Monday –Thursday)

Where: Year 1, 2, 3. And 4 PREP site: South Campus

Cost: Most schools provide funding for their students to participate; please see your school counselor for details. The number of participants accepted depends upon contributed in-kind and financial support from public and private agencies.

IMPORTANT TIPS

To have the best chance of being accepted be sure to do the following:

• Read the information on PREP. Be sure you are willing to fully commit to the program and make sure you have permission from your parent or guardian.

• Before completing the application, research and discuss transportation arrangements with your parents.

• Submit your application on time. The application must be postmarked on or before May 13, 2011. Send it early if possible—site assignments are decided on a "first-come, first-serve" basis.

• Review your application packet to ensure that you have included the following items (your application will NOT be processed until it is complete):

Once completed, keep a copy of the application packet for your records. Staple application packet, essay, nomination forms and your report card together and mail on or before the postmarked date of May 13, 2011 you can expect to hear from us no later than May 15, 2010 on the status of your acceptance. Parents or Independent School Districts are responsible for students’ transportation.

PRIVACY NOTICE

With a few exceptions, you are entitled to be informed about the information Tarrant County College collects about you. Under Sections 552.021 and 552.023 of the Texas Government Code, you are entitled to receive and review this information. Under Section 559.004 of the Texas Government Code, you are entitled to have Tarrant County College correct information about you that is held by us and that is incorrect, in accordance with the procedures set forth in the University of Texas System Business Procedures Memorandum 32. The information that Tarrant County College collects will be retained and maintained as required by Texas records retention laws (Section 441.180 et seq. of the Texas Government Code) and rules. Different types of information are kept for different periods of time.

Submit a copy of your current report card; no hand-written, no web based, and no progress reports are accepted. IT MUST:

1. List the school district you live in under the “Current School Information,” even if you attend a private school or are home-schooled.

2. Make sure one of your parents, or your guardian, signs in the designated areas. Your application is incomplete without their signature.

-If you have lost your report card, ask your Guidance Counselor for a duplicate, on letterhead and signed by the Counselor or Principal. Conduct and honors or advanced placements must be listed.
