that is now on the National Register of Historic Places.

The first floor contains the Registry of Deeds office and Building

Inspections office. The basement contains the Registry of Motor

Vehicles (RMV) and a single-user toilet that is available for

members of the public. There are three (3) inaccessible

entrances to the building and one accessible entrance. A

platform lift and stairs provide vertical access between the two

levels.

One van accessible parking space is provided in the parking lot.

Key Accessibility Issues

Signage

Accessibility issues include lack of directional signs at the

inaccessible entrance directing visitors to the accessible

entrance, lack of signage with raised characters and braille at all

exit doors and along egress routes, and lack of directional

signage at an inaccessible emergency exit from the first floor that

directs visitors to the accessible exit. Additionally some signage

is located lower than allowed or lacks a non-glare finish.

Work Surfaces

Accessibility issues with work surfaces include lack of toe and

knee clearance and work surfaces with the top located higher

than allowed.

Toilet Room

Accessibility issues at the single-user public toilet room include a

lavatory faucet that requires tight grasping, pinching or twisting of

the wrist, a mirror and a coat hook that are located higher than

allowed, and a toilet flush control that is not located on the open

(transfer) side of the toilet.

The lift is not independently operable.

No drinking fountain is provided for standing users.

The eye testing equipment in the RMV is 56.5 inches high.

The equipment needs to be moved to an accessible height

upon request of a person with a disability, including people

who use wheelchairs.

One service counter in the main room is located higher than

allowed.

Some interior routes have floor mats that are not securely

affixed.

Order of Magnitude Cost Estimates

Provide compliant signage: $4,050

Provide compliant work surfaces: $4,200

Renovate the single-user toilet room: $1,766

Provide a drinking fountain for standing users: $4,028

Miscellaneous corrective actions (service counter, securing

mats, etc.): $880

Total: $14,924

Best Practice and Inclusive Design

Best practice and inclusive design recommendations include

elements that are not required in the standards but may create

enhanced experiences for all users.

Recommend providing edge protection alongside sloped

walkway.
