Anniversary of the Dedication of our Church
July 18, 2021
When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity
for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach
them many things. —Mk 6:34

Stewardship Reflection
Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
The word “rest” is mentioned nearly 50 times in the New Testament. We see it today in the gospel when Jesus says, “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” We see Jesus step away to rest several times during His public ministry, but today He is talking to the
apostles, who have been traveling and preaching and healing the sick. They are tired, and Jesus recognizes their weariness. He recognizes yours, too. Jesus WANTS you to rest; He
understands it is vital to your discipleship. Take some time this week to look at your obligations, prioritize them, and reclaim some time that is yours. Go to a “deserted place” and enter into the silence. Ask the Holy Spirit to quiet your mind. This is a powerful practice that goes against the busyness of our culture — do it anyway! Allow the Holy Trinity to refill and refresh you so that you can continue the good works that you do!
Celebrate NFP Week! July 25-31, 2021
“To have ... To hold ... To honor, Natural Family Planning, Supporting God’s gifts of love and life in marriage.” The dates of Natural Family Planning Awareness Week are July 25–31, 2021. These dates highlight the anniversary of the papal encyclical Humanae Vitae (July 25) which articulates Catholic beliefs about human sexuality, marriage, conjugal love and responsible parenthood. Please join the diocesan NFP team to spread the word about God’s design for married love and the gift of life as well as the methods of NFP! For more information or to get involved call (316) 685-5240, or visit the
website https://catholicdioceseofwichita.org/mfl/nfp/.
Journeys
By Fred Knoblauch, Director of Stewardship
An Unlikely Saint—One Person’s Journey
Congratulations to Jeremy Vondenkamp for being the first person to find the hidden saint in the June 13th bulletin. Thesaint is St. Augustine and can be found on the flyer.
He was a bad man, and he had an equally bad sounding name. He was an Egyptian slave, and he was so bad he was fired as a slave (now that’s bad!) for his viciousness, thievery and evil propensities. He joined a notorious gang of outlaws and became their leader. When law enforcement was catching up with him he hid in a monastery. Lo and behold he had a conversion there. Four robbers
decided to rob the monastery (who would want to rob a monastery?), and this bad man single-handedly overpowered all four of them, tied them up, but then decided not to kill them. This act of kindness so moved the robbers that they repented and became monks along with him. He was eventually ordained as an Archbishop. He was later martyred, as an old priest, when he allowed himself to be murdered by attacking bandits by refusing to defend himself, after safely sending many of the other monks away. For the record, you

Middle Schoolers in Need of Leader for
Youth Group
Middle School Youth Group should start back up in August or September, but they won’t be able to unless we have an adult to lead the social gatherings. Young adults who embrace their faith can be wonderful role models for these kids but any adult, or couple of adults, could do it. This is an fun, easy way to evangelize by example rather than sitting in a classroom. There are binders full of fun & spiritual activities to pass along; just pick one for each meeting and lead them in it. You can decide what day & time works best for you. If you are
interested, please contact Elizabeth Hoskinson: 316-680-9940
or shoskinson2@cox.net.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
"I myself will gather the remnant of my flock from all the lands to which I have driven them and bring them back to their meadow; there they shall increase and multiply."—Jeremiah 23:3
We are so blessed to have our Catholic churches in Wichita. Through the opening of these churches we have daily opportunities to draw near to God. With our atrium being established here at Church of the Resurrection, it is a double bonus to let Christ, our Good Shepherd, continue to lead our lambs in His way, His truth, and His life.
