Install SQL Express

Installation of the Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition is done in two parts:

1. Database engine installation

2. Management Studio Express installation

Please follow the steps in the sections below to install these two components of the Express Edition.

Database Engine

The SQL Server 2005 Express Edition software is the database engine you will use to store and report on data in BillQuick. Please follow the instructions below to install the software.

1. Locate the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition download link on the Microsoft website. Click on

“Download the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition – Download Now”.

2. Click on Download files below.

Download steps and screen shots shown here may change in the future. The screen shots were taken in August 2007.

(4)

3. Find the SQLEXPR.EXE file and click the corresponding Download button.

Save the file to your Windows Desktop.

4. Once downloaded, locate

SQLEXPR.exe on your Desktop and double-click the icon. The installation program starts.

5. On the End User License Agreement screen, check the Accept box. Click Next.

6. On the Installing Prerequisites window, click Install. When it is done, click Next.

7. The Microsoft SQL Server Installation Wizard starts. Click Next.

8. When the System configuration check completes, again click Next.

9. On the Registration Information screen, fill in the Name and Company fields, or accept the defaults already filled in. Click Next.

10. When the Feature Selection screen displays, click Next.

The program assigns a default Instance Name of ‘sqlexpress’

(first instance, variations for multiple instances). If you want to override (or just check) the name, uncheck the Hide Advanced Configuration Options, and on the Instance Name screen, enter (or note) the desired name. You will also see the

Service Account screen before returning to the screen in the next item.

11. On the Authentication Mode screen, the default is “Windows Authentication Mode.” You do not want to use this.

Instead, select “Mixed Mode (Windows Authentication and SQL Server

Authentication)”. Make sure you specify the ‘sa’ logon password and confirm it.

Click Next.

We highly recommend that you write down the

password and place where you can access it in the future. In case you forget the password, you cannot recover it and will

need to reinstall Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.

(5)

12. On Error and Usage Report Settings screen, accept the default values and click Next.

13. When the Ready to Install screen displays, click Install.

14. After the installation completes, click Next and Finish.

Management Studio Express

The Management Studio Express software contains a set of tools for configuring and managing the SQL Express database. Please follow the instructions below to install the software.

1. Locate the SQL Server Management Studio Express download link on the Microsoft website.

2. Click on Download Files.

3. Find the

SQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msi and click Download. Save the file to your Windows

Desktop.

4. Once downloaded, locate SQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msi on your Desktop and

double-click the icon. The installation program starts.

5. On the Welcome screen, click Next.

(6)

6. Accept the license agreement and click Next.

7. Fill in the Name and Company fields, or accept the defaults already filled in and click Next.

8. When the Feature Selection screen displays, click Next.

9. On the Ready to Install Program screen, click Install.

10. After the process is done, click Finish.

BillQuick Database

If you have not installed BillQuick on the primary computer for the BillQuick Supervisor, or on other users’

computers, please see the BillQuick Start-Up Guide.

Create a New BillQuick Database on SQL Server

1. Start BillQuick. From the menu, select File, New Company, MSDE Database.

2. Enter the Server Name, User ID (‘sa’), Password and Database Name. Typically the database name is similar to the company name. Click OK to create the database.

If your server name and SQL instance name do not display, go to My Computer, right-click, and select Properties. Click the Computer Name tab and find the Full Computer Name. In the Server

Name field, enter this name, backslash, and the instance name (default is ‘sqlexpress’).

Open an Existing BillQuick Database on SQL Server

1. Start BillQuick. From the menu, select File, Open Company, SQL Server Database.

(10)

Upsize to SQL/MSDE Server

If you currently have your BillQuick company information stored in a Microsoft Access database (Standard BillQuick database), you can upsize or convert it to SQL for use with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express, Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine, and Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 or later.

To upsize the database, you would:

1. Start BillQuick. From the menu, select File, Upsize to SQL/MSDE Server.

2. Enter the Server Name, User ID (‘sa’), Password and Database Name. Click OK.

Your upsized SQL database is now ready to use. Select File, Open Company, MSDE Database, then choose the file name that you just upsized.

Activate BillQuick

BillQuick Supervisor – Primary Computer

To license your company database and to register the BillQuick Supervisor’s computer with the database, do the following:

1. Enter your company name on the Company screen in BillQuick. It should be exactly as printed on the email you received. If desired, you can cut and paste the name from the email. Click Save.

2. On the Licenses tab, click on the field next to the BillQuick edition you purchased (product code) and enter or cut and paste the License Key from the email. Click on another row to save and validate the key. Once validated, click Close.

3. Select File, Registration from the menu. In the Registration window, enter or cut and paste the registration key from the email. Click OK.

Your BillQuick Supervisor is now ready to use BillQuick.

Networked Users Computers

After installing BillQuick on each computer and pointing it to the database on the MSDE/SQL server, you will:

1. Select File, Registration from the menu. In the Registration window, enter or cut and paste the registration key from the email. Click OK.

2. Repeat on each computer with BillQuick.

(12)

Product Activation Screen

When BillQuick is in “Evaluation Mode,” the Product Activation screen appears.

If you do not complete the activation process or BillQuick does not recognize the keys entered when you started up a future session, BillQuick considers your software to be in

“evaluation mode” and displays the Product Activation screen.

The screen provides four options.

1. Activate Now – Enter a key to continue your 30-day trial.

2. Activate Later – Continue your free 7-day period of review.

3. Ready to Buy – Go to BillQuick.com to purchase software licenses.

4. Already Purchased – Enter your license and registration keys to fully activate BillQuick.

Evaluate BillQuick

While evaluating BillQuick, you would choose Activate Now or Activate Later (click the link).

Activate Now asks for your company name, address, phone number and email address. After clicking Submit, you will receive an evaluation key via email (in about 15 to 30 minutes). If desired, you can generate an evaluation key via the web (http://www.bqe.com/userservice/GetEvalKey2007.asp), or by calling BQE Software at (888) 245-5669. After the evaluation period, you must purchase a full software license and install it.

Activate Later allows you to continue working with BillQuick during a 7-day free trial. After this period you must obtain an evaluation key or a full software license.

Purchase BillQuick

When you are ready to purchase BillQuick, click I Am Ready To Buy and purchase your software license from the BillQuick website. Alternatively, you can call BQE Software at (888) 245-5669 and speak with a BillQuick Account Rep.

After purchasing a full software license, click Already Purchased on the Product Activation page. It asks for your company name and license and registration keys. Using the email you received, enter or cut-and- paste your company name. It should be exactly the same as you see in the email. (If you want to make a change, contact your BillQuick Account Rep.) Then, enter or cut-and-paste your license and registration keys. BillQuick is now licensed for unlimited use.

When you want to review other modules in the BillQuick Family, remember that you can run evaluation software and licensed software together.
