Happy Spring!
The lord has written the promise of the resurrection, not in books alone, but in every leaf in springtime: Martin Luther
I attended the 2nd Sunday of Easter service on April 11 at St. Luke’s in Lebanon, PA with my family. It was great to be in such a beautiful church with a fantastic organ playing very loud music. This was the first time we all have attended church in over a year. Fellow parishioners happily came up to my father smiled and said, “Peace be with you.” They let him know that they missed and cared for him. My father was so grateful and happy to be remembered. The priest
mentioned in the sermon that the “Peace” is the ultimate greeting meant to give one another comfort, wholeness, along with physical and spiritual health. It is given with the promise of contentment and to be reconciled to god. We have many worries in our world today, and the “Peace” is meant to calm your emotions and assist you in your challenges. This is the type of peace that Jesus gives. It certainly helped my family feel better.
I look forward to seeing you all at church.
Peace be with you! Shalom!

Dear Parish, I hope you all have either gotten your vaccine or are signed up to get your vaccine! The sooner we’re all vaccinated, the sooner we can have more of a sense of normal And I don’t know about you, but I think that would be awesome
It was super-duper nice to see all the kiddos for the Easter Egg Hunt! And it has been wonderful being able to have both Zoom worship and In-person worship. And doing liturgical wedding planning with both of our engaged couples I am excited about all of the Small Group Events being planned.
For example, hosting two outside Coffee Hours for everyone to attend after the 11am In-person worship service, and our month of May Wed Café is outside with a bonfire and guest speaker. We’re also planting our Epiphany Garden in June, our Book Box is now a registered Free Little Library, and we’re in the beginning stages of having an outdoor Food Pantry Box (more on that coming soon).
I’m excited about our partnership with Campaign D, and thank you to those who came out to
Campaign D’s 1st Annual Autism Awareness Event!
If you are able the Social Club gathers at Memorial Park on Fridays from 3-5pm (May 7, May 21; June 11, June 25) – I hope you can make it to one of their events – they would love to have us there!
And Campaign D has released a promotional television advertisement that was featured on WHAM13 at the end of April where we were announced as one of Campaign D’s partners – how awesome is that!
If you can help with Spruce Up Day (May 29th) that would be a wonderful opportunity to both catch-up with folks and put a shine on the inside of the church As well as, make the Memorial Garden sparkle after a long winter and spring. And if you looking for a workout at church and some
fellowship come to the Tree Trimming & Hauling (May 15th) – you will leave feeling like you accomplished something big
We’re able to be back to holding in-person worship
It is a blessing to be able to hold both our Zoom Service and our In-Person Service. Many people have shared how important it is to them that we have both of these options for worshiping together
We have officially submitted our 2022
Congregational Development Grant to the Diocese;
the grants aren’t guaranteed, and we hope to know
a decision from the Diocesan Grant Team in June or July. In 2022, this will be our 4th of 5 years that we can apply for the grant. This year we have to be very focused on ways to grow Epiphany. We have to be comfortable inviting people to Zoom
Worship, to In-Person Worship, and to our Small Group events. Epiphany will grow because we worked together as a Team towards a “big hairy audacious goal” or BHAG* for short. We have 2 BHAGs and they have been our mission for the last 6 years; our 2 BHAGs are growing the community of Epiphany and achieving Financial stability. We have made a lot of progress towards our BHAGs and we still have much more progress to go. We can get there!
Our Small Group efforts and Service Ministry efforts and Community Connection efforts prior to the pandemic were growing our parish in vibrant and exciting ways. Our Financial stability goal has been slower. The CDG gave us the space we needed to focus on envisioning how to grow our community. The PPP Loan was a blessing because it too has given us breathing room to focus on
navigating a pandemic as a parish. But, our parish finances continue to be deeply concerning. Our Treasurer shared with us in his April 25th Quarterly Report with the parish that giving is down by 20%.
This is a very big deal to our parish’s tight and lean funding budget. What that means is our giving was expected to be at around $32,000 by this time and is instead at about $26,000. That’s a $6,000 deficit extremely early in the year. Two things can happen – we can fall further behind OR we can catch up and overcome this deficit. I believe we have it in us to catch up and overcome this deficit – I hope you do too!
Things are ever so slowly starting to move closer to what we are all used to while still having to stay vigilant about following safety protocols. Hang in there!
We have a lot going on and a lot to be excited about as a community!
*BHAG comes from Beyond Entrepreneurship 2.0
Blessings, Rev. Jimmie Sue

In her book, Melinda tells the stories of the inspiring people she's met through her work all over the world, digs into the data, and powerfully illustrates issues that need our attention.. WOE:
I would like to have a open discussion about a possible Rummage Sale this coming August.
I would be happy to hear feedback about moving forward for having a sale, not having a sale, inside the building, outside the building or a combination.
I’ll need to know if we have enough parishioners that are willing to help out.
Either during the week for sorting and/or on the actual sale days, plus cleanup.
I submitted a proposal that the Vestry is considering & having conversation about.
Nothing has been decided.
Therefore, I encourage anyone, either male or female, to meet on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 7:00pm in the church parking lot.
Wear a mask, bring a folding chair and ideas or concerns.
If you cannot make date, please email me or text me with any ideas or if you are comfortable with helping out at the sale.

I’m On My Way To Maine!
In mid-January a number of events in my life convinced me to listen to one of my sons who was saying I should come to live near him in Maine.
Makes sense at my age to be living near one of my children.
Maine has been a part of our lives for years.
Judy’s father co-owned a lobster pound in Vinalhaven and she spent many of her summers there as a child. Our son, Christopher, went to Maine for college at Bowdoin and is still there.
When I was younger I used to crew for a friend on his boat in Casco Bay. I will be taking to Maine furniture which came from Damariscotta.
Judy and I were drawn back again and again to a familiar place
I will be 80 in September and it is time to move nearer family. Chris has volunteered to be the one to look after Dad. It is a good choice for both of us.
Epiphany was our spiritual home when we needed one. Judy loved this church. I will always be
grateful for the way you welcomed us and for the sendoff you gave her. I will miss Epiphany
and the friends I made here. I just wish I could have been more involved in church life. Just as I
am able to do more, I have to leave. I wish it were possible to say goodbye in person. God willing, we will be together again before I
leave.
God’s Peace, Jerry Brown

✣ 1990’s The Chancel Renovation
When the Chancel was designed, the altar and communion rail were close under the Mumford Window. They could be reached from the Nave only steps. For some elderly parishioners, this was an increasingly perilous journey. Some chose not to come to church because they did not want to be singled out by having communion taken to them in the pews. After reflecting on this, and the overall design the Rev. Winifred Collin recommended in April 1998 that the Chancel be renovated to accomplish three purposes:
• Make the communion rail more accessible to parishioners who are physically impaired.
• Bring the altar closer to the congregation in order to increase involvement in the service.
• Make the chancel area more flexible, more usable.
After considerable discussion and dialogue with the congregation, and with the strong support of Bishop William Burrill, the Vestry decided in the spring of 1999 to proceed. The architects were John Bero and Jennifer Peris from Bero Associates.
The contractor was Fred R. Steele Co.
The stanchions that supported the altar rail and the altar rail in the Jefferson Avenue building were taken to the Buffalo Road building in 1960. A new
curved altar rail, designed to reflect the original, straight, altar rail, was carved. The stanchions were retained, and a Communion Rail gate, in memory of Barbara Feltner, was designed to harmonize with the design of the pulpit. By doing this, parishioners could come to the Communion Rail, without having to climb three steps, as before.
To create a more flexible, more usable space, the Sanctuary floor was leveleds7 so that the choir and the altar would be at the same level. The choir stalls were removed and replaced with chairs, and the altar was moved closer to the congregation in order to increase involvement in the service. And, when needed, (for example, for pageants, plays, etc.), the altar and choir chairs could be moved On Sunday, December 5, 1999, Bishop Burrill re- consecrated the renovated chancel.
