1. Over and Under the Pond by: Kate Messner Read Aloud & Discussion a. Youtube reading: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQKYRCGIPWg

b. Recall (while emphasizing prepositions too!): Can you remember what animals were over the pond? What animals were under the pond? Try to recall first, before flipping back to these pages for help.

c. Define the following vocabulary terms: reeds, reflecting, skim, lunge, delectable

a. How did the author use this word in the story? (HINT: go back and find the sentence it was used in for context clues!)

b. Create your own sentence using this word!

d. Think about what happened in the story. Would you like to go to a pond this summer? Why or why not?

2. “Scoop Up a Delicious Story!” Story-building Activity (see attached)

a. Think of your favorite summer memory or make up a summertime story to “build the sundae! Remember the important parts of a story, which are labeled on the different parts of the sundae visual.

b. Write what happened in the story using the different parts of the sundae, including: who is/ was in the story (i.e., characters); where does/did the story take place (i.e., setting), what is/ was the problem (i.e., conflict), what is/are the story events, and how will/was the problem fixed (e.g., solution).

c. Following along with your sundae visual, present your story in full to 2 listeners! 3. Summer Listen Up! (see attached)

a. Pick to complete the 1 or 2-step directions worksheets. Read out loud the different steps and see how best your child can follow along!

Fine Motor/Visual Motor/Self Help

1. Yardwork - This is the second time I’ve put this on our list. Yard work is an ongoing job and we have to continue to keep up with it to keep our yards looking nice through summer!

a. Get outside with an adult and help complete some yard work.

b. Pull weeds from flower beds to prepare for spring flowers and plants c. Help plant annual flowers in flower beds using a trowel and your hands d. Rake up branches and leaves left from fall

e. What else can you do to help with yard work?

2. Paper airplane races - make a paper airplane with a launcher

a. Materials needed: a piece of office paper, paperclip, stapler, rubberband, pencil

c. Follow these directions to attach a paperclip to create an airplane launcher: https:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Fv0-501msc

d. Have a friendly competition to see who is the winner in your house! 3. Outdoor Scavenger Hunt (see attached)

a. Print out a copy of the scavenger hunt list

b. Take your list into your backyard, your neighborhood, a park near you or any other outdoor space and see how many items you can find on the list

c. Check off each item you see on your hunt.

d. Have others in your house try the hunt with you and see who can find the most items!

Warm up by dancing to your favorite song. Have a parent stop the music every 20-30 seconds and freeze until the music starts again.

Make stations to practice different jumps for 30 seconds each. Rest about 30 seconds before going to the next station. Use paper plates, a rag, string or hula hoops to mark various targets, anything that is not slippery..

Stations:

1. Hop to a row of 7 targets spaced about a foot apart in a line. 2. Hop to a zig-zag line of 7 targets spaced about a foot apart. 3. Hop in and out of a hula hoop.

4. Jumping jacks.

5. Jump like a bunny (hands on the ground before jumping). 6. Jump as far forward as you can and keep your balance.
