ACADEMIC ALERT #2020-05
DATE: February 10, 2020COLLEGE: Undergraduate College DECISION:
Revision of the Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice program and minor in Criminal Justice: addition of the Criminal Justice major, elimination of the two existing majors, Criminal Justice Administration and Forensic Social Justice, and addition of two (2) concentrations, Social Services and Criminal Justice
Administration. RATIONALE:
The B.A. in Criminal Justice major along with the minor have been revised and two (2)
concentrations added for the purpose of fully integrating into the new Undergraduate College model. The model was developed to provide personalized academic pathways including embedded
experiential learning opportunities to prepare students to enter or advance in their careers.
Additionally, the major level outcomes have been modified to address a universal skill set to prepare students for a wide range of career opportunities.
With this revision, the new structure allows for students to major in Criminal Justice and choose a combination of a minor and concentration, or two concentrations. The major now includes a required internship course designed to expose students to real-time work tasks to support professionals in the field and offers concentrations in either Social Services or Criminal Justice Administration. There is no revision to the total quarter hours for the Criminal Justice degree program. The delivery of the B.A. in Criminal Justice remains fully online or blended.
