“I understand the utility of the fundraising nights and am grateful to

those able to spend $200+ on a ticket/babysitter/raffles. But those

events exclude the majority of parents who also would love to come

Last year’s successful playground campaign proved that when the PTA

clearly communicates shared goals, our community comes together.

Question 11: Last year, the PTA conducted a successful fundraising campaign to build the new Manorhaven playground. If the PTA conducted another major capital campaign in the next 2-3 years, what is the biggest financial investment you'd like to see it make? (e.g., investment in classroom technology; action-based learning tools and furnishings; walking path/asphalt track; etc.)

So, what should be the next big goal for the PTA’s

fundraising efforts?

Parents say they want streamlined communications that help them

focus on what’s most important.

Question 19: I would prefer to receive only one newsletter per week. 49 responses (42 English, 6 Japanese, 1 Spanish)

“There are too many emails that aren't always intuitively organized and

there is overlapping information, which requires you to sift through

various emails to catch the additional information.”

“I would like more email blasts targeted to specific events. Even though

I read the newsletter, sometimes things get lost in it.”

“It would be helpful to get a calendar in the beginning of year with

important dates listed for Fall Fair, any picnics, field day, book fair,

culture week, LNO, parent social, etc.”

“More explanation of events. As a new parent it was hard to know

what everything was. Would be good to have a glossary of events and

would be good to have people that lead the events pull in participants.”

(17)

The PTA asked, you answered. We’re listening. Here are some

changes you may have already noticed...

★ Increased language access: Live Spanish interpretation at school meetings,

simultaneous distribution of all PTA flyers in Spanish and Japanese, and text

message reminders in Spanish and Japanese.

★ More free, family-oriented, community building events: Pride in Port float

decorating event, return of Welcome Back Picnic.

★ Streamlined communications: One comprehensive email newsletter per week,

more frequent text message reminders to help you stay on track.

★ A focus on inclusion: Launch of new Diversity & Inclusion committee,

Manorhaven International Festival and International Dress Day (first meeting, October

30, 7pm; childcare and Spanish interpretation to be available)

(18)

In 2019-2020, the PTA will do its best to...

Continue to focus on supporting educational enrichment for all students.

Foster a more inclusive environment through improved language access,

more accessible meetings and low-cost/free community-building events.

Provide more insight and transparency into fundraising efforts and goals.

Streamline and provide more timely communications and reminders.

(19)

So...what’s next?

Participate in the discussion. Share your ideas today or follow up with

one of the PTA’s Executive Board members to continue the conversation.

Join the effort by volunteering to support a goal or initiative that’s

important to you.

Bring a friend to the next school event or PTA meeting! There’s strength in

numbers.

Stay engaged: read your texts and emails, and be on the lookout for new events

and initiatives throughout the year.
