Learn how to use quantitative data to both support your own arguments and evaluate others’ arguments. You’ll design and complete a collaborative research project in your core course and present your findings using text, figures, and graphs at the research symposium at the end of the institute.Don’t just learn about science—do science. You’ll design a collaborative research project, gather your own data, and run experiments in your core course, culminating in a presentation at the research symposium at the end of the program. You’ll also experience firsthand the integration of the scientific fields while honing your scientific inquiry skills in your supplementary courses.

Explore the legacies of Rome as you study advanced topics in history, English literature, and art history. In both your core and supplementary courses, you’ll learn to use the tools and techniques of research, interpretation, and presentation that are essential to humanistic inquiry.
All of our summer academic programs are taught by the same Carleton faculty members that U.S. News & World Report ranks first in teaching. When you’re not in class, there’s plenty to do! Strike up a conversation in the dorm lounge with new friends who share your interests. Head to the Recreation Center to play racquetball, work out in the fitness center, or climb the rock wall. Explore Carleton’s 880-acre arboretum. Join a game of Ultimate on the Bald Spot. Take field trips to the nearby Twin Cities and attend special events on campus like dances and campfires with the Carleton student staff. You’ll learn a lot here, but we promise that you’ll also have plenty of time for fun.
